<div>According to the NFL Network, the Jaguars are not shopping veteran players ahead of the Oct. 29 deadline.

Why the heck not? The only way the Jags are going to contend anytime soon is by stockpiling draft picks. ProFootballTalk suggests offering Maurice Jones-Drew to the Chargers, injured Marcedes Lewis to the Patriots and Dwight Lowery/Paul Posluszny to anyone that will take them. GM David Caldwell might not be actively shopping these players, but he'd be silly not to take offers seriously.

They know this how?

Yeah we wasn't shopping Monroe either
Does this board get post out of order from time to time for anyone else?

I guess you and a few others do not.
What part of your above babble makes what you are stating fact? That's right, nada.

Yes.  Makes me go cross-eyed.
Quote:If Baltimore would not even pay his whole remaining salary. Then why would they sign him long term?

If you could buy something cheaper than its really worth, wouldn't you???

Because Newsome took Caldwell to school, thats why. He got exactly what he wanted, and got it for the cheapest price possible.

Yes.  I've seen myself reply to someone, quote them, and then their post be after my post, and I'm like [BLEEP]

im thinking the ravens dont have enough cap space this season to absorb most of monroes salary?

I wouldn't exactly say we were taken to school.  We came up with the short end of the stick, but the whole goal was to clear out cap space and accumulate picks... The picks weren't what they should have been, but we can make up for it in Free Agency.

It does sometimes initially after you post when theres a lot of other people posting in the thread, but it sorts itself out quickly after you hit refresh or go to the next page.

Bingo.

However, next year with some creative accounting they can afford to pay him a long-term deal.

I bought things cheaper before. And had to pay for maintenance down the road. You get what you pay for. The ravens have no belief nor ties to Monroe. They know if he stinks they can let him walk end of season.

Ozzie payed what he thought was fair. For a struggling tackle.

The fact that we ALSO had to pay most of Monroe's remaining contract this year should have been something where Caldwell could have used as a bargaining point for our side to up the compensation.....

Not only did we get a scant return in draft choices, but ALSO had to PAY most of the money left. LOL! thats HORRIBLE negotiating. Laughing Laughing

TMD you should copy and post that quote that NYCjags has and put it in your OP post

Who smartly realized/ identified that the likely reason for his "struggles" this year was adapting to a new scheme. Thats how smart people get bargains....they see things that Joe public (you) apparently cannot.

I agree.  But in the end we achieved what we were trying to do.  We should have gotten better... And I would have held on for better, but I don't think we screwed ourselves either.  The biggest net here is the additional cap space we will have to work with in Free Agency.  Hopefully with that 7-12 million he would have cost we can bring in a player or two that perform at the same level or near it.

The Cardinals got a conditional 7th round pick, and are picking up most of Brown's salary.

Cardinals: So... how about Levi Brown?  Want him?

Steelers: Hmm... what do you want for him?

Cardinals: A 6th?

Steelers: That's way too much!

Cardinals: Fine a 7th...

Steelers: Conditional 7th!

Cardinals: ...C'mon!  It's practically a UDFA at that point.

Steelers: Conditional 7th, and you pick up his salary.

Cardinals:  ...Fine.  Deal!

Potentially, the Cardinals are saying "Here Steelers, have Levi Brown on us.  We'll even pay his salary, and you don't even have to give us anything!"
