Quote:We're a democratic republic.  NOT a democracy.  Never was intended to be.

Did they even teach this stuff over there?
Right after Elf spotting, and before Clog making.....

(J/K DF! I might needs some wooden clogs to go elf hunting someday)
Quote:Four times so far has the electoral college been won by a candidate that didn't win the popular vote. That's a failure rate of 7%, imagine if your car failed on 7% of the trips it made.

Now imagine if the UK, Germany, and France convened and decided what was best for all of Europe. In that way, New York, California, and Illinois would hold too much power for States that don't represent the rest of the US.

The electoral college works.
Quote:Regardless of the truths and lies that have been spewed from both sides, I sincerely hope that people understand that it's not ok to be hateful, racist, and disrespectful to one another - regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, and beliefs. We all know that actions speak louder than words, and I hope that an extreme minority of individuals do not perceive his election as a clearance for hate crimes. I highly doubt it, but I do think about it.

As an independent, I give Trump the utmost respect with the result that his campaign has yielded - despite the constant uphill battle that he faced. I am going to maintain an optimistic mindset, in the hopes that our beautiful country and its citizens can prosper and flourish. What also gives me hope is that anybody can become whatever they want to be, with hard work and perseverance.

We are better when we are all unified, even with differences in ideologies, policies, and beliefs - and that is what separates America from other countries that try to oppress the opposition. And this is what makes America the greatest country on the face of this planet.

You guys continue to bicker back and fourth, yet you're not even giving this gem of a post any serious conversation. Yall should be ashamed.
Quote:I loved the story about the Trump supporter smashing a bottle over the mans head for being gay. Or the Trump supporter who hit and stole a Muslim woman's hijab. Very exciting so far.

You mean this story?

Quote:Did you watch the debates? Of course he's going to make it priority number 1 to go after her. He doesn't keep his emotions in check. He fell into every single trap Clinton set in those debates and other countries took note of this and will most likely own him too.

well actually....
Quote:College educated voters also voted trump. Republicans always win the educated vote. You're acting like a typical smug liberal bully. Calling people stupid if they voted for a certain candidate? Grow up.

For all that pearl clutching about "bad words" its amazing to see the "if i don't get what i want i will burn down your store" crowd when they don't get their way.
Here in France, we are shocked by the election of Mr Trump.

We are shocked because like many people, we thought that Mrs Clinton was already the winner, even before the vote.

We are shocked because our next presidential election in France are in may 2017, in 6 months. And we could face the same "surprise". One of our candidate is the samed kind of person as Mr Trump.

To me, Mr Trump is not the answer (not saying that Hillary was...). The way he talk about women, about others countries, about Mexicans...that's just not right. He is already complaining about protesters....I mean, democraty start with this ! Protest, freedom of speech, civil freedom and respect of all human rights !

I love your country. Every time I was in USA, people were just fantastic with me and my family. Even with my French accent, it was a pleasure to talk with Americans. I have learn a lot from all the people I meet in USA. I'm just scared for you guys right now.

To make a country GREAT, it's all start with the education. How can you explain this to your children, when your own President is talking like an homophobic, racist and misogynist person. It makes no sense. Divide and rule, that's what its all about.

.

We have the same problems in France with arab people. Some political parties are trying to scare people with attacks in France from ISIS. They want to make people think that all muslims are terrorists.

I will stop here because my English is not very good, but I wish your country the best, I hope I'm wrong about Mr Trump. I love you guys, and please, stop being aggressive with each other just because you are not on the same page or because you have not the same opinion.

Nobody cares what France thinks.
I will say, I am pleasantly surprised with some of the names and folks who are part of his transition. I am glad to see he is coming to his senses and bringing on seasoned policy makers.

Thrilled he has dipped into the Bush team as much as he has.

Interestingly enough even former lobbyists are getting a voice.

Priebus would be an outstanding choice for Chief of Staff.

Can we get started in the 10 year infrastructure proposal. I bet the D congress will approve post haste!
Wow, I just read that Trump is looking to abolish the 22nd amendment.

It is pretty interesting, if he were able to stay in 3 terms, I think Donald Jr. would probably be able to run a solid campaign at that point in his life.

Let's see what happens.

That's not going to fly.

Here fishy fishy!
Americas biggest fear of a Trump presidency should be who and the hell is going to hang all the drywall now? There is going to be a ton of unkempt lawns, I can tell you that fo sho.

Ironically, this is what's starting to concern a lot of Trump Supporters.

I'm actually pleasantly optimistic these days. He's actually starting to remind me a lot of Bill Clinton.

I believe the lesson here is don't trust the media (including their caricature of our next President.)

Also, your country is right to question the intent of the incoming Arabs.  You forgot to mention there are now parts of France the French people, including police, do not even go any longer because of the danger the settled Arabs pose (the No-Go Zones.)

Now, before anyone screams racism, etc... my wife is part Arab.  We have many Arabs in our family and circle of friends.  They are some of the best people you will know.  They are the polar opposite of those who are invading France and other countries to establish their own communities that are not friendly or inclusive to the places they are setting.

Thankfully, Donald does not want that here.  Nor should any American citizen.

Trump used to be a Democrat. He's not a far-right conservative. He's probably right in the center (my guess only).

He's definitely loud-mouthed, with an ego that's enormous.

However, if he can find a way to get some of Washington's crazy spending waste under control, and revisit these trade deals and taxes that have sent a lot of people's jobs overseas, I'll be happy about it.

Or like Reagan, who was a Democrat most of his life before becoming a Republican.

Many of those same people that you enjoyed meeting voted for Trump. The media wants you to believe he's all those things, but it's their way ensuring the minority vote. Democrats have, for a very long time, convinced people that those who oppose them fit that criteria.

There have, however, been violent riots and attacks against whites and / or  Trump supporters since the election.
