LOL

Blake Bortles has three good games in a 7 week span and we've got tweedle dee and tweedle dumb clamoring about being right about the QB all along.

The funniest bit is the clown crying about "all he needed was the number one defense, better coaching and a top five run game!" Brilliant football mind right there. I mean, really? You really think those things would help a QB? We had no idea!! Thanks for the info, Sherlock.

He's got eight games to go, and he'll have to play well in more than three of the remaining games before I'd consider any sort of contract beyond the one year option. And even that feels sketchy right now.

I'm rooting for young Skeeter just like I always have, but there's still eight games of desert to cross before he reaches the promised land.

I don't believe you.

We are 2 different people.

My two cents actually say the coaching staff is finally starting to get it. One thing we have seen the last two weeks is a lot of receivers running wide open. The staff changed the passing concepts from fast developing slants and speed outs that Blake is bad at and to slower developing crossers that Blake has time to see develop/come open and then take his time with his mechanics to hit. I do not think much has changed with Blake himself, we are just seeing them tailor what we run away from his limitations.

Now the question is whether the pass catchers are getting wide open because they are actually getting better or because defenses have been fooled by drastically different route tree philosophies that they hadn't seen on film. The next few weeks will be interesting to see how defenses adjustments go.

Hackett called a masterful game and Bortles executed it to near perfection. He's playing confident, trusting his arm and staying relatively calm. That's Blake at his best. When that confidence goes everything goes out the window.

So happy to see him doing well after all the [BLEEP] he's been through , particularly this offseason, but I'm still pretty set on who he is as a QB. Perhaps an electric last stretch will change my mind. Either way I think you attack the QB spot next year.
Okay after I say this flame away.  Cause too many drinking the koolaid.  But ignoring the stupidity.  Now based on replay and condensed games.   What I seen lately.  Blake is progressing on the field.  And yet saying stupid stuff on the fan base.

Now even if Blake plays lights out.  What will it matter if the fans refuse to return.  Because ya don't say stuff during a boycott.  On rather play 16 away games.

Stuff like that get ya replaced fast.  At the end of the day.  Khan needs fans to attend games.  And the on field performance won't matter.  If keep taking jabs on the fans.

And will have us draft a QB in first couple rounds that way.

So if Blake wants to remain a Jag.  He need to stop bashing home town Fans who support him.

And if he can learn to do that and keep Progressing on the field.  Only than he is our future QB.

Did Bortles really say that 16 away game comment like the announcer told it? Is this quoted? If so, that is absolutely horrible.

His only saving grace is he doesn't come off as the sharpest spoon in the drawer, so I won't hold it against him.

He made a joke in a presser in response to a light hearted question.

He wasn't bashing fans. People just apparently like to get it twisted so they have one more thing to whine about.

The problem with a quote like that, it looks horrible on paper. Even worse with a CBS announcer reading it out loud.
I think things are getting a little heated in here, but we would all be friends if we met in person. If you would like to discuss in person me and Space meet every Wednesday night at the Melbourne Square Mall Chic-fil-a to discuss Jag football. Let us know if you are in the area.

He was correct in what he said.

We've been awful every year since he got here and played terribly at home which fans are obviously going to not be happy with.

That's what he means by 16 away games. A home game only matters crowd wise if they're invested into and loud. When you are awful like we have been it's very hard to get a home crowd fully invested. Yesterday we had a fully invested crowd and for the sounds of things the place was rocking.

Duval fans don't deserve Bortles after all [snip] they talked about him the last couple of years. I have ZERO problems with Bortles taking a shot or two this inept fan base.....the dummies never realized what the real problem was----coaching not QB. Some dummies still don't get it.

Hey guys. New to the board. By the way I am a Titans fan and just wanted to come here and talk some rival ball. Not here to troll either. I want to know something about Bortles;

In 2015, staticially he was one of the best, but why was the regress so bad the following year? Was 2015 a fluke? Or was it garbage possessions? Ive seen all the games in 2015 and it doesnt seem as you guys were down by a whole lot to suggest that Bortles benefitted from garbage time stats? I just want more an insight on this matter.

My theory is that they had coaches monkeying around with his mechanics. I think this made them feel better because he had a prettier throwing motion but it also had a horrible impact on his accuracy. It should be pointed out, he's never had great accuracy anyway and probably never will but lately he's improved his decision making and gotten to where he's avoiding major mistakes.

You should read my text book. Its called Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics: The 2015 Jaguars Offense, A Case Study in Practical Futility

Welcome.

2015 is long gone and Bortles has seemingly improved various aspects of his game since then, but I can offer a little clarity on your questions.

There wasn't technically much actual garbage time. I counted 397 yards and 5 TDs of garbage time production. Subtracting those stats would still make him 11th in the league in both categories that year.  Not bad.

However - his stats were inflated because the team was playing from behind on the scoreboard early in many contests and they abandoned the run game. 607 pass attempts on the year for a team that claimed it wanted to "run first" is really high.

In 2015 Blake wasn't really as good as his stats may suggest, but he did well (production-wise) with what he had to offer as a QB.  He did get quite a bit of help from his receivers at times, and his percentage would certainly have been lower without Hurns, Robinson and Lee making some tough catches on inaccurate balls as often as they did.

His technique in 2015 was far from perfect, but he was able to find just enough consistency within his awkward footwork and motion to get to those lofty numbers on the stat sheet. Important to note that prior to the 2015 season he went out west to work with throwing coach/guru- Tom House and his camp of coaches. Prior to 2016 he did not make that trip and his technique regressed noticeably.

In 2016 the regression in technique combined with some bad coaching and bad decision making to create a perfect storm of suckage.  In the final weeks of that season we saw glimpses of improvement under a new OC and interim head coach - with one of his west coast throwing coaches flown in for good measure.

Bottom line - he's an imperfect thrower of the football technically that needs the right pieces around him, coaches that scheme to his strengths/away from his weaknesses, and some pressure off of his shoulders to "carry the team."

In that environment - he continues to be inconsistent - but has shown the ability to play within himself and win.
