Quote:You're right, we should have taken the chance on the athletically gifted DE. Unfortunately that would have been the freak Beasley, not the subpar athlete Fowler.
Beasley has done nothing until the past 4 games, which means close to his 20th game in his career. Plus his offense is actually scoring points and forcing teams to pass the ball in obvious situations. Its false equivalency to compare him to Fowler right now. I doubt Beasley would be much better if he lost a season to an ACL injury and playing his rookie year now with a offense that can do nothing.

You can take as long as you need to get to the sample size you want, but you're most likely gonna be disappointed whenever that is. Beasley showed he was a great pass rusher in college, he racked up the pressures last year despite not getting many sacks, and he is now turning those pressures into sacks. That's the typical progression you see from a pass rusher.
Dante has done exactly zero of those things. He looks exactly like he did in college, which is to say not a pass rusher unless he is being schemed into getting them. And guess what, he is getting stoned if he isn't stunting the A gap. He has 7 hurries on the year and 5 of them are unblocked.
But if everyone wants to table the discussions until next year so the SSS isn't as small that's fair, it's just unlikely to change in that time. I'll cop to it if it does.

damn kill em bro
I was so cautious about the pick I was labeled a hater at the time.
But... I don't see how you can call him a "bust" at this point in his career. It's his first season.
I guess since we're venting, we're letting it ALL out now (which is fine.)

Kill em? lol, rpr made way too much sense for some. Not to mention, Fowler is getting coached up by the worst coach in NFL history.
Not to mention this staff has no clue how to use Fowler
7 games he's played. The overabundance of negative Nancy's on this board is growing at an alarming rate.

stop wasting draft picks on over-hyped gators in general, especially on defense, they're forgettable, anyone remember the safety who was suppose to be so good and the last d-lineman that hardly ever started. Other than Freddy T these clowns just don't stack up.

Not to mention KY mentioned Mack and he got his first sack of the SEASON against the Jags. But he wants to use him as an example.

and he played great as soon as he left here
2 sacks in his first seven games - and he's a bust?
Vic Beasley of the Falcons was drafted in 2015 too. He had low numbers his rookie year. Look at him now. It takes time. And as others have said, Fowler might excel as a LB.

He needs to be moved around.
Fowler may be better as a 43 LBer - but we would never know because we play this damn awful scheme that doesn't take advantage of our players strengths.
The fact is that the entire team looka like busts right now.
I have no problem with jungle members being critical of any player on the roster (with the exception of hurns, the punter and the fg kicker). Besides the 3 I mentioned, they all look like bums right now.
That includes Fowler and his lazy/bone-headed play.
Perhaps in the future a real coaching staff can teach these knuckleheads how to play professional football in the NFL.
But untill then, they're all a bunch of panty waists that don't deserve the game checks they are given every week.

Hurns sucks.

This.
We honestly don't know the level of talent we have because these players have been allowed to twist in the wind for 4 years. There's a chance some if these bums may actually be good football players, but that is contingent on getting a real coach in here to figure out what we really have.

Lol!! My blood pressure spiked for half a second!

Not excusing the players, but it would take a superhuman effort to show enthusiasm after this many losses. I think the outbursts you saw from Telvin and Malik Jackson were signs that Gus was losing the team. There's no new game plan, nothing innovative. Rather than player to each player's strength, Gus insists that everyone conform to his dream Seattle defense.

There are great Gator Defensive line players. Kevin Carter, Dominque Easley, Sharfiff Floyd, Alex Brown, Brad Culpepper, Jevon Kearse, Gerald Warren, Ellis Johnson, Marcus Thomas, Tony Mccoy.....on and on all the way back to Jack Youngblood's days. We just haven't got a good one that has size and power. Drafting 250 pound speed ends became all the rage after Freeney hit it big. Everyone tried to copy it. But ends that small usually get beat up by 300 tackles. So it takes them a couple of years to put on weight and muscle, part of the reason a lot seem to be late bloomers. Fowler is the same case, listed as 267, when he gets to 287 he may be a great player. The reality is he is more suited for LB at this stage of his career, but like Quinton Groves the Jags apparently like picking lighter ends who dominated with speed in college, and may or may not pan out in the pros.
In a 3-4 Fowler could be used as Hightower is with new England, or how spikes was
