The more I think about Tom back here as HC, the more I'm embracing it and the more sense it's starting to make.
There are plenty of disciplinarian coaches out there that aren't 70 years old. Coughlin was a great, underappreciated coach for us. He's not the future, and I don't think hiring a coach with the intent of firing him in two years once the young gun is ready is a good move for the coaches or the players. Does anyone else remember how screwed up the Cowboys' locker room was when everyone was trying to figure out if they answered to Wade Phillips or Jason Garrett?

I remember reading an article where Coughlin indicated that he would be interested in a position for about 4 years.  Give him 4 years here to help turn this mess around.

He would find things all for the better with a new crop of players that need his experience and wisdom. But jumping back into coaching might be too stressful for him to tackle. Maybe give gus the boot and let him finish out the season? No pressure, no long term commitment.

At the very least Khan should hire TC as an adviser to help him filter out the bovine excrement he's been fed since he bought the team. Khan HAS to be wiser since then.....and TC could be a big help in evaluating the current GM and picking the next head coach.

It will soon be time to fire up the jet.

That's what I'm thinking too.. Bring in Tom to finish out the year and play it by ear afterwards..
The only way we should even consider bringing Coughlin in is if he is willing to sign a four/five year deal and see it all the way through. It would still be a bit of a stop gap, but at least we'd be bringing him in for more than a couple seasons.

Please

Eh, it's not really fair to Tom to come in here midseason since he won't really be able to change much. No point in having him go 3-6 and then maybe not even come back next season.
If they do want Coughlin though they should make the decision now, not when it's over
Schefter wouldn't run with this if it was "just" speculation.

It all depends on what Tom wants.. If he wants to be a stop gap, let him be one.. If he wants 3-4 maybe even 5 years, at this point, I say let him have it..

Worked for Louisville.

Tom's a good coach, but it would be a bad idea to hamstring the franchise by having him come back for only two years, while other good and potentially long term solutions at head coach go elsewhere.

I'd be fine with Coughlin coming back, but that's a completely different scenario.
He would be an upgrade but don't know if the right choice.  Short term deal to see where it's at?

TC only needs a couple of years. The jags/TC can also have a successor hired too.
This will not happen, good hopes but just not happening. Would you come back to a job that fired you. Sorry folks you all are reaching for straws.

You realize that anybody that had anything to do with Tom's firing hasn't been with the organization for years?
While Coughlin might be good for this organization, I can't see any upside for him, personally, in coming back. Hopefully we can find someone like him who will instill discipline and maturity.

To Jagsfan4life, OMG Really ?  :woot:
