Quote:That doesn't mean being able to relate to the young players isn't important.

I suppose he could just show the youngsters a Super Bowl ring and ask, "Who wants one of these?"

The ones who don't care we don't really need anyway.
Quote:You sure about that?

Actually, I don't want either

Coughlin's time has come and gone.

We need to progress, not regress.

It's so sad that Gus is THAT bad that we have to entertain ideas like this!!!!

I would welcome back Coughlin with open arms.

I was initially against it simply because of age but I've thought about it a lot and would love him here.
I'd be ecstatic if we hired Coughlin.  Who cares that he coached the Jaguars in the past?  Look at his track record.  Maybe there is a younger coach out there who could come in and turn this team around quickly, but how much confidence do you have that we would discover the next great coach who will be unproven when we hire him?  If you just compared coach A, B, C, etc. without their names and looked at their performance, he'd be as good as any hire in my opinion.

Lots of people mention how they want a coach with experience who is a proven winner.  Cowher and Gruden come up often.  Well, Coughlin is in the same category as them and unlike them he actually has a desire to coach again.  He also seems to coach best when given a challenge and when everyone is counting him out.  The Jaguars sure seem like a challenge that would be a great fit for him.

Please make it happen Khan/Caldwell.

I'd be curious who Tom's coaching staff would be comprised of. Isn't his staff all essentially in NY still?
Dont know why people don't understand that Gus has the rest of the season. He is not going anywhere.

This is about next season
Yeah bring back Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell, and Tony Brackens too while we're at it.

Don't forget about the bidness side of it too. The Jaguars are pissing a lot of people off right now and a Coughlin hire would get old school fans interested in the team again, not to mention it would be a great move from the football side too.

This almost HAS to happen.
Keep an eye on him why?

Is he on a lot of people's death pool?

This made me chuckle.

No - he just keeps wandering off from the nursing home and if he goes too long without his  meds things get messy.

I'll endorse bringing him back as long as his contract comes with a Life Alert.
If we can't get a Jim Harbaugh-type coach, I think I'd be ok with TC being back.
Bring him back. He should've never been let go to begin with.
It's all speculative. Now that Coughlin has been out of the loop for a bit does he still want to do it? If so, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd even chip in for any travel expenses.

You really think Coughlin is out of the loop?

When the Jaguars fired him, he spent the entire time between gigs reviewing film of each weeks game.  Right now, he's a senior adviser to the league, and no doubt continues to go through the game films for every team each week.  The guy has indicated he wants to get back into coaching if the opportunity presents.  It's who he is, so if the Jags do decide to fire up the DeLorean and go back in time, he'll happily accept.

I've seen some here say he's a relic, or a dinosaur.  The guy is 4 years removed from his last Super Bowl win, He's not the heavy handed monster that was lurking the hallways of the stadium early on here in Jacksonville.  He is far more disciplined than what we're seeing right now, and he has a proven formula to win quickly.

This roster has the talent to be competitive.  They lack the discipline to focus on the details that make the difference between a good and bad team.  They need someone who can instill that level of attention to detail.  If not Coughlin, whoever they go after needs to be more of a task master than the current regime.

It's funny.  I noticed earlier this season when the team was arriving at a stadium on the road that the guys were pretty casually dressed, which is a departure from what we've seen from previous staffs.  Coughlin was a stickler for having his players look like professionals, especially when on the road.  Coat and tie was mandatory when traveling.  I think we've gotten away from that professional atmosphere under Bradley.
I say Coughlin for a 3-5 year stint with a clear plan that he helps Caldwell find the right replacement sooner than later.

He's had top 10 offenses 5 of the last 7 years.

Sign me up for that regressive offense.

I think Gus and Dave missed one fundamental thing in the rebuild, a very basic tenant of leadership.

I think they did a LOT of good in changing the culture......and then Gus blew it this year.

You CANNOT be a good guy, caring and cuddling type then switch to a disciplinarian.  It doesn't work.  And when it doesn't work, and you look like you are going back on your own principles, it can fail spectacularly.  I think that is a large part of what has happened here.

I don't blame or completely blame Dave for wanting a guy like Gus here during the rebuild, as it is on Gus to make that change to something that works.

Leadership is a tough, tough thing.  It is why Belichick is so amazing.  Those guys CONSISTENTLY believe they will win, because they BELIEVE they should and will.  Smoking Houston with a 3rd string U of F reject?  Come on......

It is also why we see teams come in here licking their chops, because they believe they will beat us and we will fold, even when they are the 32nd ranked defense, suddenly they have their hair on fire against us.
