Wouldn't be opposed to him on a two year deal if there is no other big names who want it.
I'd question his ability to relate to the youngsters though.

Well... Gus has related to the youngsters for 4 years. How has that worked out for us?
Quote:Intriguing but I dunno. The team definitely needs a disciplinarian but I think the game has now passed Coughlin.
The game the Tennessee Titans forced on us this past Thursday... That is a Tom Coughlin style offense. He will demand the defense be more traditional.
The game has not passed him by. In fact, with the re-emergence of the power running game and the viability of more traditional defenses, it could be said that the game has come back to Tom Coughlin.

That doesn't mean being able to relate to the young players isn't important.
Given Tom's age it's likely if he is hired that he will also be grooming the next Jaguar's coach. That person is likely to his assistant coach. I wonder who this person might be and what other people he might bring on his staff??

Maybe true but I wouldn't put it at the top of any list of priorities for a new coach.
You can't go home. This makes for a nice discussion but we can't undo the previous decision later. TC is great and I admit my joy at his firing was greatly misplaced.

If this was this case, then I'd happily agree with bringing coughlin.

Umm, yes. Seems you didn't know that based on your inane point about coming back to a job that fired you.

I think when you have a young team and are considering hiring an old school 70+ HC its an important thing to consider.
Part of the reason he was pushed out of New York was because his message was getting stale and they had a young talented replacement in McAdoo to replace him.

You can be tough as nails on your players but still relate to them. Good video though.
The guy is 70, he's not too old to coach. LaBeau is 79 and his defense is still really good. Coughlin could be here for six years, and that's plenty of time to turn this thing around - hell, that's enough time to get a Super Bowl.

Yeah, even if Coughlin is only here for 3-4 years, all he has to do is get us back on track. This thing has been off the rails ever since 2007. We need somebody to come in here and AT LEAST just make us respectable again so we have something to build off of. Right now the only thing we have is a decade's worth of compiled garbage.
I'd rather the St Louis Jags than a 170 year old Coughlin

You sure about that?
Im fine with coughlin but im not incredibly excited about it

Here is the thing. Unless the above happens, why on earth do you bring Coughlin back? Plus wasn't McAdoo the guy he was grooming the past few years, does he have another he was grooming? His coaching tree hasn't exactly been good for NFL teams either, just NCAA.
Plus, no coach has coached 2 different franchises to Super Bowl wins, and only 6 have appeared there twice. Sure, that appearance would be better than anything we have had for the Jags, but isn't the point to always aim to win the SB. I get that Coughlin is the best that Jags have ever had, but that doesn't mean you go back to him just because. It didn't work. Move on.
People keep calling him a disciplinarian like Odell didnt try to kill Norman under his watch

One player.
