Quote:Oh boy.... why ask the players and coaches what can be done? That just screams of clueless owner. What are they gonna say? This sounds pointless to me and kind of shows Mr. Khan doesn't have the balls to do what's needed.... I'm not trying to add more negativity, but this just seemed pointless; unless it was individually done.
I doubt that a billionaire owner of a NFL team is 'clueless'. I also suspect that Khan has the 'testicular imperative' to fire coaches if he is so inclined as he has done this already with his soccer team. I'm inclined to think that the 'meeting' was more about 'show' than substance. It nevertheless sets the stage for a major move though...
it allows players to voice concerns without fear

Sounded like the meeting included coaches and all players.  Not sure that's the approach to get people to talk frankly.

Quote:Caldwell should in no way be put on a pedistle, but he also shouldn't be viewed as the problem. Khan has said this is a process and as an owner seems to have wanted to show the whole NFL he wants to be respected as an organization that won't make rash decisions. We don't want to be the Browns and fire a coach 1-1 1/2 years into his tenure when there is a lack of talent and that's just too short of time.

There's plenty of these teams picking high that aren't getting the talent level we are. So that has to be taken into account too.

In regards to firing a coach every 1.5 years...you don't fire or keep a coach for the sake of preserving the appearance of being "rash" or "patient."  You keep or fire a coach because you believe they can or can't lead the team to a Super Bowl.

I believe Bradley should have been fired at the end of his first season when it was apparent that he's not the caliber coach to lead a team to a SB.  Nonetheless, I believe it's been a shortcoming of Khan so far for keeping Gus so long.

This season could have been at least an investment in the future under another HC had Bradley been fired last season.  Instead, we have a lost and flustered locker room and will have to learn new "systems" under new coaching before next season.

I just hope Khan is learning to be a better owner through all of this because while patience is a virtue it hasn't exactly been productive in this situation in regards to coaching.

Players are not going to say "the coach sucks" if the coach is in the room (most likely).

To be fair, no coach was going to win with that roster. Gus should have been fired after last season.
This entire situation makes our franchise look even MORE inept to the rest of the nation than they already are.

Then why not of just kept Mularkey and let him fall on the grenade of the rebuild?

Yeah, I'm not seeing that happening either...especially if the players like the coach as a person.

I understand the 2013 roster was horrible.  But anyone can observe Gus's leadership/management abilities.  All one can ask of a coach is that they get the most out of their roster and put the players they have in the best position to succeed.  He has utterly failed at that and I believe it was evident as early as his first season.

I think the idea was that everyone knew Mularkey was a terrible HC as he had already shown that.

Bring in a new HC and give him time as the team grows, essentially giving the coach a pass for the first few years until the roster gets a point where it should be competitive. That time has come and gone for Gus. But to bring in a new coach, gut the roster, and then fire him after 1 year makes no sense.
Quote:they talked about Blake's drinking problem i bet

Which by proxy, has caused a drinking problem for the fans
The [BLEEP] took so long?

Basically, they hired the wrong guy. Seattles defense hasn't missed a beat since Gus left, so it's not like he was the mastermind defensive coordinator we all like to make him out to be.

He is just a guy with an overly positive attitude and unfortunately, it has taken them 4 years to realize that.

I agree, he fooled Khan and DC with his personality. At the time though, he was a well known candidate. Not sure if there were signs in Seattle that DC ignored during the hiring process. Let's hope he gets it right this offseason.
A report from a fly on the wall.

Players...Don't blame Gus. It's on us. Gus is great. We love him.

Khan....You love him? Then play like you do. Otherwise the guy you love will be piss canned.

It's up to you. You control this.

This^  It concerns me if Caldwell and Khan have truly believed in Gus (i.e. think he would lead the team to a SB) up to this point (or still believe in him).

With both being new to the game, I truly believe that Khan and Dave put too much stock in just talent alone and didn't fully understand the importance of a good coach.

I'm all for firing Gus now, but I don't think it happens unless we look terrible on Thursday night (based on the Gus tenure that is probable). If we barely lose or win we're stuck for a few weeks.

In my head, this is how Khan talked to the team and the coaches regarding their poor play so far this season.
