Quote:I hope you don't think we will draft an OL that high.

Honestly... I wouldn't be shocked at all if we did.  The O-line is still our weakest unit on the team.

I'd actually say it's the MOST likely thing we do.  It all comes down to where we are drafting, and who falls to us, but when you look across the team, we've got our QB, 2 stud RBs, multiple stud WRs, too many D Lineman and Linebackers to get them all on the field, solid corners, and a solid FS.

Basically, OL, TE, and SS are the biggest needs, but with fewer SS and TE generally 1st Round Grade, it's most likely we target another stud OL.

Beachum will get his 4yr/40mil option, Linder and Cann are solid, Omameh looks like he's got a shot to stick at LG, but no guarantees, and Parnell is potentially replaceable.

You know... even going through it this way... we don't have many glaring holes.  Outside of Cyp... I don't really see a spot on the roster right now that I don't like the starter.  Just need some more depth in areas like OL.
Quote:Why not?

Because the last time we did, he was a bust. When we drafted OL much later, they became stars.
Quote:So why didn't coaches put him at LT again and keep Joeckel at LG for the Ravens game?

The easy answer is because they believed that Joke was a better option at LT for the Ravens game.  He's a natural LT who can play Guard.  Omameh is a Guard who can play LT.  Perhaps with the week to practice, they felt the liked Joke at LT and Omameh at Guard, their natural positions.

Revisionist history, hindsight, blah blah.

Joke being drafted #2 overall in a terrible draft class has nothing at all to do with any of the players in the upcoming draft.

Linder and Cann being great pickups in the middle rounds does not stop you from taking a stud OL if he's available in the 1st.

Omameh did not even play at guard against the Ravens. Reed did.

I will hold off on this topic until after the Super Bowl.

The more I was thinking about it the more I realized he didn't play that game.

Ultimately, my primary point still stands... they felt Joke was a better option at LT than Omameh.

Despite Joke not being very good, he's at least a natural LT, where as Omameh came in and played well at LT for part of 1 game, but is naturally a Guard with some RT chops.

Reed... I don't have much good to say, there... and I think the fact that he was inactive this week says enough.
I'm on the Omameh train.
Time to move on from Luke anyways. We weren't going to re-sign him, so it's better to see if Omameh can prove to be the LG. If not, we'll draft a stud.
Regardless of who the better LG is, Jockel's injury is very disappointing. I was hoping he could get healthy during the bye week.

This might be a good thing.

Injuries are never a good thing.

Never say never.

Honestly.. I think it's a good thing as well.

Joke's not good.  His upside is "serviceable", with the occasional Turnstile performance.

The moment Beachum played well, it was basically written, Joke would be gone at year's end.

His getting injured basically forces the coaches to take him out of the lineup, which they seemed hesitant to do.  If that means getting Omameh in at LG, good.  He's arguably a better LG than Joke.

Now... the question is going to be what they do after the Bye.

If Reed is playing LG instead... It's going to be ugly.
If the Joke truly is out, I'm guessing you'll see Reed named the starting LG with Omameh remaining their top backup.

Reed was out because Omameh can also play RT, but that doesn't necessarily mean they like Omameh over Reed at LG.

Omameh played good yesterday, why would they take him out. I think it said alot yesterday that Reed was inactive.
Coaches make depth chart changes all the time without the starter getting hurt. Case in point: making Dwayne Gratz inactive in London.

If you think injuries are good, think about how you would feel if your knee was in extreme pain and it prevented you from doing your job.

Boselli was drafted #2 overall, same as Joeckel.

You can frequently get a good guard or center in the later rounds, a good OT is a lot rarer.

Apples and oranges.

I would HOPE they don't go that route... but... I mean... remember who we're talking about here.

As noted by MJF... Reed played LG vs Baltimore when Beachum was out and Joke slid back to LT.

Lou Gehrig disagrees.

More recently, and in regards to football, Tom Brady took over for Bledsoe because of an injury.
