Likely priced out if the range of the young people they need to target.
You may be surprised at the number of people with money in the 30-55 age range who are interested in urban core living when it’s developed properly.

I see the range being more 21-33..Young professionals, first job downtown. You cant raise a family in an apartment downtown.
Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence effect.

Firefighters battle massive blaze in downtown Jacksonville (news4jax.com)
Sounds like the owners hadn't done anything with it in years.
I wonder about people like that. Why keep paying the property taxes if you're not using it?
Fire was probably started by homeless people. All the firefighters are safe.
Let's hope no one got stuck in there and died ..

Sit on property and wait for Shad Khan to buy it.

It's a win-win for all parties involved.

Its true. Property taxes are squat. Just keep grass cut to keep city off your butt. Eventually someone will want it.

That's completely absurd. Of course you can.
And people in their 40s and 50s are just as viable as potential downtown dwellers depending on their preferences and background.
Id move downtown if it was poppin.
I think it will do fine.
The Sports Complex is much more suited to the evening/weekend crowd than the Landing was. You have a football stadium, an ampitheater, baseball stadium an arena and probably by the time this gets going a soccer stadium nearby too. That will provide a steady number of events throughout the year.
I've been to Ballpark Village in St. Louis and P&L in KC and they both are very busy at weekends with concerts, events and just generally for things like CFB Saturdays, NFL Sundays and various big events like US national team soccer games. I suspect Jax will be too, as we don't really have a defined central area of bars and restaurants. This will fill a big void. The Jags themselves will almost certainly push events heavily there as well such as road game watch parties, draft nights and training camp.
The tax payers are being taken advantage of, but its a tough position for the city. Our Downtown is incredibly stagnant and we have a billionaire offering to invest. We'd be mad to turn him away and also to lose our only professional sports team.
Hopefully they can get some decent tenants too.
I've honestly been pretty embarrassed to show visitors our Downtown in the past. Hopefully this is the start of a positive change.
Yeah. This project could be huge for the city. It offers something lacking for the past 60 years: a major focal point for downtown investment.

That definitely will work, but it has to be more than something you go to when you are already going to one of the stadiums.
A gameday activity isn't work all that money.

Ballpark Village in St. Louis is great. Didn't Lamping have a hand in that?
I would love for Jacksonville to have something similar.

Yep, pretty sure they have something vaguely similar in mind. That would be cool if it pans out but we're a lot different than St. Louis so it will be challenging.
I'm thinking it's going to be modeled after the Kansas City Power & Light District.
Either way, I think it will benefit this city immensely.
If you don't already, you should read the Jacksonville Daily Record. You can learn about the latest downtown developments.

That thing might be working now but it was a grass field forever. There wasn't a single project put in place the whole 5 years I was there. it was a very similar argument as this project for years.

As a 32 year old with a 5 year old and a new baby coming, I would have no problem at all with downtown apartment living if it was properly developed and safe. There are a lot of things raising a family in the city that you don't get in the suburbs/country. And vice versa. It's all personal preference.
