You could be right. I think we'll see some team trade for Minshew. However, I don't see them just releasing Minshew for nothing as someone had suggested if a certain trade level is not obtained.

I think straight up releasing him is a horrible idea. Like you said, we have him very cheap for 2 more years. If we can't get compensation for him, you cut Bethard, not Minshew
I am ok with letting them duke it out in the preseason. If Minshew isn't picking up the offense as quickly as Beathard, cost ain't in my consideration of who stays and goes.

I see that his first year was guaranteed, that disqualifies my statement. And yes, lots of free agents sign and then don't make the roster, it's pretty common, especially guys like Beathard who is just a glorified camp arm. We've had a Mike Kafka, Trent Edwards, or Jamie Martin on the roster to be the "veteran maybe the backup/maybe not" guy.

True. Honestly, even if they keep Beathard, I think they're stupid to cut Minshew for nothing. I'd expect they keep 3 QBs on the roster before they just cut him. But who knows. My gut right now says there's either something in the works already or they expect him to voice wanting a trade.

As a minimum wage backup with experience, I would take him over Wingard (....which doesn't say much). I figure these guys are likely on the wrong side of the bubble to make the 53 roster anyway.
