Lmao no he isn't. The football world laughed at us when we hired him and then again when we decided he was one of only I believe two guys we retained.
Sucks to see Meyer fail his first major personnel test.

We have new coaching. Perhaps Cam has more potential than he showed under the old coaching staff. Also, who's to say we can even lock up Trent Williams.

Clearly an insurance policy in case we can’t get a target in FA/draft. With our cap space, it’s a no brainer decision. Would have been incredibly irresponsible not to have done it. It’s a 1 year deal, which we can even get out of if it doesn’t get signed.
What are people freaking out about, seriously

I don't disagree but I still find it weird that they apparently want to get rid of Norwell and keep Robinson.

Good decision. No matter your opinion of his play, you always need the big bodies. If you look beyond the top few free agents he is as good as the rest if not better. Also, I feel the 1-15 team did nothing to motivate anyone on this team. Last season was akin to a death march...lol

Meh... he's the best player at his position that you have right now. IF there was somebody better on the roster at his position then the tag wouldn't make sense. There are no guarantees in FA or the draft so keep the best that you have until you acquire and sign an upgrade. Worst case scenario is that he becomes and expensive backup for one season IF the team is able to get an upgrade.

Let's just completely overpay a LT that is so bad, he's not even on peoples top 100 available free agents. Lawrence could get badly hurt behind these OT's and if he does, it's on Meyer and Baalke's heads.
I suspect it's more likely a negotiating ploy or at worst a fallback measure. The chance of Cam actually playing under the tag are remote. They could resign him to a more reasonable deal or they could sign and trade or they could (more likely) remove the tag and let him walk after they've assured themselves of someone qualified to take his place.
Oh God no! That means he'd be here long term!
I hope it's options 2 or 3.

I'm not satisfied with having someone slightly better than Joekel. I want a reliable OT. At least one. Right now, neither are reliable.

Trade him for a reliable OT.

Apparently, we are following Ryan Grigson's plan of how to build around a franchise QB.

Wishful thinking and unrealistic.

That's been the problem. We've avoided making upgrades with good players. We just settled for OT's who fell into round 2, because they were slow footed. It's time to address the position with actual "good players."

Guys..the worst thing we can do is lose Cam Robinson and NOT sign a Free Agent left tackle. I’m sure Meyer and company are still shopping.

The worst thing we can do is have Robinson and Taylor starting for us in 2021. At least one of them, (hopefully both) need to be upgraded.

Clearly you don't get the concept that it can always be worse. This is a decision made to carry through the next 8 weeks of free agency and the draft, and that makes it a Devil You Know deal.

I hope Cam is able to lengthen the piece of rope that’s tied to each ankle whenever a DT goes around him.

Question: Is it a guarantee that a 1st round OT is a star?
Answer: No.
Question: Is a first round OT likely better than Cam Robinson?
Answer: Yes and we also would have an additional $14 million to upgrade other areas of this team.

Yeah I don't understand the thinking by Urban here. Robinson is flat out bad. You'd like to think that money could be used elsewhere. Best thing to come from this was getting to see olinematters meltdown.
