Well during last weeks game commentators said he wants to resign with the Jags. I saw people saying maybe 3 years 32-34 mil
At the very least I think he gets tagged if a deal isn't agreed on.

Highest paid TE is 17 mil. per year
He should be tagged with the aim of locking him down for at least another two years deal wise. He's already gone on record stating he wants to remain here. I think if you factor in what Lawrence has already done with him, Zay and Christian in a new system and coaching staff it's pretty impressive.

You would think going into the regular season later on this year that Lawrence will be one of those top tier passers that he's already amongst his peers discussion wise but I am thinking he makes 30+ TD's look easy. Especially with Ridley in the mix and especially if Baalke and Pederson can continue to bolster the roster.

I think they have barely scratched the surface as far as what Pederson can do scheme wise as well. Etienne could probably be more involved in the passing game in 2023. I think they'll still aim in getting a counterpart at TE to mirror Engram's abilities opposite of him. Should be fun to watch for many years to come at this rate.

I think TE is the weakest position in the entire league in terms of top-end talent.

Kelce....... (massive gap)......... Andrews, Pitts (even though he plays in an archaic offense), and I'll throw Kittle in there.

Then it's a whole mess with people like Waller, Engram, Hockenson, Schultz, Muth, Ertz, Knox....

So yes, I do think he's top 10 but that may just be by default. I would love to have him back though because it seems the marriage between him, Pederson and Trevor is perfect.
It is looking more and more like a franchise tag for 2023 is the way forward.

Should be in the 12-13 mil range.  Untagged - there are probably 4 or 5 teams with lots of cap space that need a TE. One  of those would probably outbid us.
He'd REALLY need to want to stay a Jag to turn that money down. Wouldn't bet on it.

I think if they convince he and his agent to be cool with a tag and the promise of a 2024 deal commensurate with his 2022/2023 performance - that's the best outcome.

They may need to front load that 2024 contract a bit to keep his money from dragging too far into other young talent renewals.
I’d like to keep him. He plays tough and is the best legitimate pass catching TE we’ve ever had. That said, he is smallish for the position. I know fantasy has us caring about receiving stats only, but does anyone that’s watched him do so have any comment on his blocking ability compared to some of the bigger athletes at the position? Would be hard to pass on a guy like Mayer in the draft if he’s there, right?
I don't care what kind of contract they offer him (within reason).

Don't care if they tag him..

Just don't let him walk!

Dude's got that dog in him.. Have NEVER seen a TE on this team with that much production. I think the last TE we had that was worth a damn was ole Stone Hands KB..

Pederson's playbook is largely centered around the 11 personnel grouping.

That is one TE.

I suspect they are comfortable having a guy that can act as a fourth receiver in that formation and subbing another TE when they need that position to protect.

The multiple TE looks they run somewhat infrequently are most often run plays with rare deviations when a TE leaks out for a screen or quick pass.

I'd love to find a prototypical TE at some point, but I believe the production Engram is providing is tough to replace and he should be retained to preserve that.
cant imagine we let him walk, and he dosen't seem like a guy whos gonna ask for #1 highest paid TE money.
One thing to consider with Engram as with all our receivers is they would have to go to specific teams to produce the results they have achieved this year. Not every team has a TL type QB and a coach like ours. (unless it is just about the money and nothing else) This should reduce the number of dance partners he will consider. I do remember an interview when asked about the 1 year deal. He was open about saying he decided to bet on himself so he could be paid like one of the top TE in football. It it going to be an interesting off season which will go a long way to the Jag's draft strategy.
I know everyone is completely in on resigning Engram, but should there be higher than normal worry about his injury history with the Giants?

Granted TE is a very hard position to stay health, but I don't think that can be completely overlooked if he is looking for a 3 or 4 year deal with associated guaranteed money.
If we can find a TE in the draft which seems to have a decent amount of talent and promise, I would be giving engram 2 years

He'll probably just sign elsewhere for a longer term deal if you try that.

Best you can do is guarantee lots of money in the first two years and give the team an out clause with very little dead money in the third year.
With the way the cap is moving and knowing what kinds of guys are out there for cheap I'd be giving him top 5 money early and easy outs late on a 3-4 year deal.
4 years 50 mil, 25m gtd, easy outs at year 3 and 4. If he stays healthy and balls he can push for one final big pay day in 2-3 seasons. If not we can bail after 2. Seems win win enough for me and we can still draft and develop behind him

In his last 3 years he's only missed 2 games.  That's pretty reliable.
We gotta keep Engram. He's a mis-match almost every week. Also, would love to draft Michael Mayer from ND. There would be no stopping Lawrence next year.
Trevor and Engram like each other, so if your Star QB likes his TE we need to keep them together.
If Engram wants a long term deal, give it to him. I don't know where we are with next year's cap, but there are probably other guys I'd renegotiate or let go of before trying to shortchange Engram. He deserves somewhere between top 5 and top 10 money for sure.

He isn't like Marcedes Lewis blocking out there, but he's not bad at it. Very willing and tough. I've seen him get worked 1 on 1 vs a DE/OLB a few times, but that's a hard block for most TEs in the league. I've also noticed him being a key blocker in springing multiple big runs this year as well. His receiving ability is where he makes his $$ though and we need it.

Regardless of whether they re-sign Engram or not (and they absolutely should re-sign him), they have to add more to the position. Luke Farrell will be the only TE under contract after this season ends. I'd re-sign Engram and still look to add another in the draft.

And absolutely if Mayer is still on the board when we pick, I think you got to take a hard look at him there. Even if we re-sign Engram.
Lawrence and him like each other and work well together. Trevor is the focal point of our offense and team, so if he wants him, we need to do the best we can to keep him here.
