I don’t normally get into the numbers bc I believe you can’t put a price limit on a good football players, but probably something like 4 years for $49 million with $9M guaranteed with a $4.5 million signing bonus. He would be the age of 32 the last year of his contract.

Engram had 4 games in which he got 2 targets or less, and he had another game where he had 3 targets.

Engram in weeks 1 thru 12:
Receptions - 37
Yards - 356
TD - 1

Engram the last 4 games:
Receptions - 32
Yards - 383
TD - 3

Your guarantee is low.  It’ll be at least in the $20 million range.  The guaranteed money is the contract.  The rest is just pie in the sky since the team can cut you at will.  It should probably be something like Waller’s deal.  Will be interesting to see if they can swing it.  This is his last real bite at the apple as well.
I just want it to work out for both sides and for him to remain a Jaguar the next 3-4 years.
I think they tag Engram at the minimum. I would hate to see this team entering the draft in three months from now trying to backfill so many damn positions with quality selections. Tag Engram, that solves your TE1 problem. I am assuming Taylor ends up walking which leaves you with Little playing RT next year. So, we're spared there. I think Williams is fine at outside CB opposite of Campbell so now you're also not pressing to fill out that position and you can find a nickel CB later on.

The first two or three picks in this draft coming up really need to players that come in quickly and instantly fill a position of need. We NEED a pass rushing presence. Whether that's from the interior or edge. Doesn't matter. We're going to NEED one. Period. You're looking at Allen entering his 5th year, Key, Smoot and Robertson-Harris hitting the market. With the injury and age concerns revolving around Robinson at LT, Bartch at LG and Scherff at RG you cannot leave this draft without addressing one or two of those positions early as well.

Good, competitive footballs teams that are typically always in the play off race or discussion are known for primarily developing and building up their trenches consistently. This is something Baalke has to master in order to maintain our potential death grip on the AFC South for the next decade+.
They gotta tag him or pay him top ten money.
And, yes, that guarantee on a new contract will be 20 mil or more.

Would not be surprised to see an incentive laden deal like Kirk's if they don't tag.
Have to bring him back. He's found his groove after all these years in the league.

Sauce Gardner leads the NFL in passes defended…guess who is tied for 2nd place in the NFL with Jalen Ramsey?

If you guessed Williams then you would be right. He has 15 PD, and Campbell is just below him with 14.

I agree with you that Williams will be fine on the outside.

Backloading contracts when you are staring down the barrel of what may be the largest QB extension ever inked seems like a bad idea.

You previously said that you thought the Engram would likely play under the franchise tag for the Jaguars next year.  How do you predict the Jaguars will get under the salary cap and carve out another $11+ million to franchise tag Engram without back loading some contracts?

*They save 8 mil cutting Griffin
*They shed 1.4 mil in miscellaneous dead money from old contracts/players who are gone
*They restructure RRH to spread his money due next year evenly over two years instead of 10 mil next year (he's a FA after '23)
- pay him 7 mil in 2023 and 7 mil in 2024.
*The cap is going up by 10-12 million.

That's 24.4 million right there.

I think they either tag Engram or get a deal done. I don't know if one is more likely than the other. And I could be wrong about how they structure a deal.
Not trying to be combative about this or anything, I'm just nervous about the number required on Trevor's second contract.
Makes me think they won't stretch too much toward 2024/2025.
I think WIngard is a guy that would sign a team friendly deal. We have to do what we can to resign Key as well. He's a huge part of this defense. We need to try to keep the band together and just add too it in the draft
It's a great change of pace to be talking about players we want to keep rather than players we need to dump. What a difference a year makes.

Click on the pic of Zay and Engram.
This is good news. Dude has earned the right to be this team’s starting TE for the future.

Very good news.

Listening to Arden Key, he seemed pretty emphatic that he wants to be in Jacksonville. He speaks in glowing terms about his time here and seems to readily identify Jacksonville as home.
So has there been any update/news trickling out over Engram's potential extension? Doesn't really seem to have been discussed but he's yet to sign the franchise tag. I know the rules make hold outs a bit pointless but just haven't heard anything on this. Would he definitely sign the tag?

I would like see an extension personally, just haven't heard anything mentioned at all. Could you offer some incentives on top of the cap to get him to sign it? Is that allowed?

He still hasn’t signed the tag, but as camp gets closer hopefully both sides can work out an extension.

I saw where Barkley is holding out bc the Giants slapped the tag on him.
I believe Sunday is the deadline for Engram to sign a long term deal. After that he plays on the tag. So decision time for the lad. take what the Jags have on the table for long term security or play on the tag and risk it yet another year.

If he takes the deal on the table it is rumored to be about 12+ mill x 4 years with 20 or so guaranteed. I am thinking he wants one in the 14-16 range, but the Jags seem to be topped out where they are. Ball is in his court now. (for reference Kelce's average is 14.3 mill/year. As much of a hometown guy I am he isn't a Kelce....

IF he plays under the tag, the 11 mill tag is not bad, more than he has made the whole time he has been in the league. It is guaranteed so injury this season is not an issue, but would impact future years.

If it were mine to do I would sign the contract about an hour before the deadline. Just in the unlikely case the Jags get nervous and sweeten the deal.

Consider:
He is playing for a coach and in a TE friendly system. This system has made average TE's look real good.
He is being thrown to by a really good QB that is on the rise.
He may never in his career be on a team in a situation like this. He is one of their guys...
He is coming off a career year with a lot of publicity. The addition of Riddley (if he returns to form) will/could change that.
We drafted Brenton Strange Round 2, Pick #61. Due to this draft position he WILL see the field and some looks. A successful season by the rookie would lower his value to the Jags.
Also consider that the market numbers for starting Tight Ends this offseason was much lower than anticipated. I think the top contract this year was 3 @ $7.4 per year. Going out there wanting or getting more than 12 per is really not likely next year either. He should take the deal on the table, it's likely more than he's going to be offered again in the future.
