Fortner is the weakest link. I don't care how intelligent he is; if he wasn't a gym rat this offseason, he's going to get pushed back into the QB again this year.

Let’s give him a chance to prove himself in his 2nd year.

Gut feeling says Fortner will be fine, or not something we need to worry about.

Fortner did okay last season for a rookie. Why this hand wringing all of the sudden?

Fans want their franchise QB protected
Shatley and Fortner gave up a lot of pressure last year
Both rated terribly in pass pro grades and win rates.
Watch any game from last year while focusing in the interior line- and count how many passing downs trevor couldn't step into a pocket to make a pass. It's gonna be more than you are probably thinking right now
Trevor's ability to move around and Pederson's timely playcalling of quickly developing pass plays made that line look much better than it is.
Nothing wrong with hoping Fortner is better and Bartch is an upgrade, but it aint written in stone anywhere.

Because he wasn't good. At one point last season I was calling for him to be benched

The line has been suspect at times, sure. But as for Fortner, he did okay for a raw rookie that plays such a central part of the offense. He had his ups and downs, but you didn't hear his name often, and less as the season wore on. He'll be fine.

Last season we had a 1,000 yard rusher, a 1,000 yard receiver, a record breaking TE, and Lawrence was one of the least sacked QBs in the league.
In the regular season, Fornter snapped the football 1121 times in 2022 and had 4 penalties and gave up 1 sack. In the playoffs he gave up 1 sack.
In 2022 Fortner had an approximate value of 8. 5 time pro bowler and 1 time All Pro Brandon Scherff also had an approximate value of 8 in 2022. Jawaan Taylor also had a 8. Tyler Shatley had a 6 AV.
Walker Little had a 3 AV. Bartch was injured but had a 3 AV.
To give some perspective on the approximate value, Vince Manuwai is considered one of the best guards in Jaguars history, he never had lower than a 6 but never higher than a 10.
An AV of 8 is pretty good for an offensive lineman.
LG Ben Coleman was with the Jaguars from 1995 to 1999, in 1996 he had an AV of 8, in 1997 he had a 10, in 1998 he had a 9, and in 1999 he had a 7.
RT Leon Searcy had an 8,10,8,13 in the 4 years he was with the Jaguars.
Boselli was on another planet with 1,11,15,15,16,11,1 (injured 1st and last season).
The best center in Jaguars history is Brad Meester. He switched from guard to center in 2003 where he finished that season with an AV of 8. The next 2 seasons he had 7 AV. In 2008 and 2011 he had a 5, and he had a 6 for his last 2 seasons of his career. In his first season as the starting center, Meester allowed a half a sack and was called for 2 penalties.
To say Fortner needs to play better, hell you can say that about any player in any sport.
ya gotta get outta the stat sheet sometimes, man.
Fortner was getting beat, a lot of our pressures were up the middle, and those make for less time to get the ball out. Thank goodness we have a decisive QB who wasn't afraid to get the ball out in the face of pressure. Someone like Gabby woulda had an exponential amount more sacks last year.
I'm sure he's spent plenty of time in the weight room during the offseason. Guys know where their weaknesses lie; some can work on improving (strength) while others may not be able to (speed, height, etc).

Gave Fortner a little bit of slack this summer after I read up on him more. Similar stance with Walker and Lloyd (limited playing time or no playing time at positions they're being tasked to play in the NFL).
I was not aware that Fortner was just a one year starter at Center for Kentucky. He played guard for his first three years there. That's a tall order to have one year of experience at Center and then jump up into the NFL in the same position.
I think he'll be fine as well.

I agree. He was thrust into the starting role too early and wasn’t at all ready for it. But now he has another TC under his belt and should do better. How much better? Well, that’s why they play the game…

Dewey has come so far.
In 2019 and 2020, people wanted to tar and feather him as slow, clumsy, reckless [BLEEP] cheap shot artist.
But this guy never gave up, kept focus on improving his game, and is now a team leader.
If he's not the epitome of a working class hero, I don't know what is. [BLEEP] love this guy! Hard work, perseverance, and a positive team attitude can overcome so much.

In week 2 news. Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee today. Still 2 weeks from our game but he might not be as wide open if he's slowed. Still going to go for 100 yards and 2tds against us though lol
