I'm over defending Rid at this point
He's been here long enough to be past the dumb mistakes
If they tag him fine - if they let him walk, fine - but he'll have to finish strong in the postseason to earn a big deal
not holding my breath on that

But see that’s the thing, we’re all apathetic about it
He’s supposed to be our #1 guy, our Diggs, Chase, Adams, Jefferson. And he’s not even close. Way too inconsistent - and seems like he makes mistakes on routes at least twice a game.
I don’t think you resign him. I think we should target Mike Evans or T.Higgins , Trevor needs a big bodied receiver who can make crazy catches
There’s the issue of Zay being here next year too

I'm not apathetic - I put a clear qualifier on resigning him and not is not likely to happen as things stand
Called it in week 2 or 3. Ridley is no where close to being a true #1.
He has 1 career thousand yard season. It seems like he’s in la-la land too often. His routes are crispy but who cares. If he can’t catch it or see the football, then it’s all moot.
Lawrence had words with Ridley after he didn’t look for the ball. Kinda similar to what Brunell did to Rison in 1996.
They took a shot for high reward and low risk. We still have games to play. We will see.
(12-10-2023, 07:07 PM)MojoKing Wrote: [ -> ]Ok so should we just sign Tee Higgins in the off-season? Or Mike Evans?
Cause this Ridley thing is just so up and down - he’s like a solid no2, but isn’t making the big play when we need it.
Isn't Tee Higgins the same thing as Rydley ? He is doing very well because he is a Nº2 receiver and because he has a true Nº1 on his side...that was Ridley in atlanta as well
I still think he is fine, the real question is how much will he ask, and if he asks for too much I'm fine with the receivers that we have, I don't know if we can spend a lot in a receiver, we need a lot on both lines, and we were fine with Kirk as our Nº 1,and Engram who is Elite
Ridley has cost the Jaguars a lot on the field this season. The dropped TDs. The false starts. The not looking for the ball. Inexcusable

You literally said if he walks fine , if we resign him fine
Very little enthusiasm of outcome right there friend

I understand why you think I intended apathy - but
not what I said
If we tag him - FINE
If we let him walk - FINE (I get it - cap situation is dire)
Only way he gets a deal is by earning it in postseason (clearly stated and ignored)
He's not coming back regardless. It was worth a shot. It didn't go as expected.

This
Invest more on beefing up the Line
Our QB can make average receivers look better.

Yes, please!!!
Screw Ridley, he hasn't shown anything special.
Whatever they decide to do with Ridley after the dust settles on the season - the line is the bigger priority by far
Should have been a big priority last offseason
I wouldn’t worry about Ridley in the offseason.
He has been more of a detriment than a help. Seems out of place in this offense, isn't reliable catching the ball, and too many mental mistakes. 4th best pass catcher on this team. No way I'd bring him back with all the other areas of significant need.

You hit the nail on the head, OG. Just seems like the offense has been off all year because of him.
zay jones had lots of drops too.
I'm not as down on Ridley as most on this Board. He is likely to finish the season with 75-80 receptions and 7 or 8 touchdowns. We were all somewhat guilty of having expectations which were too high following his great opening game against the Colts following an impressive pre-season. No doubt, he has been guilty of some drops and running the wrong routes. My hope is that they can keep him at a reasonable price since he hasn't performed like the other top receivers in the NFL. Ideally, they could place the transition tag on him to see if he's worth a long term deal. There is very little chance of the team keeping Kirk, Ridley and Zay Jones following next season but they are a very good trio who are hard for defenses to contain, especially when you also must cover Evan Engram- who is a great receiving tight-end. I'd still like to see the 3 receivers together one more season and hope that someone like Parker Washington can replace one of them following next season.
