For me, as I have said numerous times, it's his footwork and positioning inside the redzone and endzone that sold me on him immediately when I looked at his highlights.
50/50 jump ball situations felt more like 70/30 in his favor. His ability to box out in traffic working back inside and his ability to track the football and drag his feet or toe tap outside are better than any of the receivers I saw in this draft class.
The size and top end speed is just a bonus. I kept thinking to myself as the draft process unfolded, that, we had to come out of this draft with him, Ricky Pearsall or Javon Baker. There was no way I thought he would be there at 17, let alone, 23. What helped us was a few defensive guys slipping that probably shouldn't have.
I'll take it though. I expect big things out of him immediately.
Yeah I'm thinking he'll be Trevor's clear #1 option by mid-season and that's meant as no disrespect to Kirk or Engram. Which receiver has the biggest game will probably still vary game to game even then as opposing defenses will be picking their poison. O-line please do your part in allowing this to happen.
Yeah. If they get him going early this season it will just open up the slot position further for Kirk to work his abilities across the field and then it frees up Engram some more. I would like to see Engram get even more opportunities with motion routes and being flexed out a little bit.
He was tasked with playing a little bit more inside and in between the hashes last season. Really worked his [BLEEP] off to earn those catches. I just think he offers more than that, and, it's as you hinted at, the offensive line has to figure it out this season. It all falls back on them.
We'll live and die by Morse's durability this year I guess.

If we can hit that pass, it will open up the entire offense.
Starts with the running game. Have to believe in their ability to sell that fake more than anything. I expect Kirk and Engram to feast underneath this year with Thomas Jr. and Davis running deep out there.
Should be a fun season. I don't think our schedule is as tough as it was last year. Especially defensively with the teams we'll see. Just have to see what that front five looks like with a full off season to gel.

If the middle and left side of the O line isn’t escorting opposing players into the backfield this season, that should be no problem.

Exactly. "Forward Momentum" should be the camp theme for that unit this year. Throw that on a shirt instead of the ranking nonsense. They know they suck. So, literally, move forward.
Khan can afford this.

I like the “Forward Momentum” theme for this season.
Moving Forward it is. Keep it moving.
Pretty good breakdown there. He certainly has the speed to get deep. There were some opportunities in there for him to be the intended target.
I think Lawrence had a chance on the play he took the sack, but, in fairness. I think the safety was starting to drift towards that deep zone and that's why he hesitated to pull the trigger.
Could have got BTJ lit up potentially, so, no complaints from me there. On the comeback route that CJ didn't connect with him on.
He had a ton of green to work with. It'll take some time to adjust, but, he would need to drive his defender more inside next time towards the hash mark so he's not trying to tight rope towards the sideline on that route.
All in all. He's got plenty of potential. That top end speed is going to show up this year. You can expect a quick drag route to turn into a full blown 50+ yard sprint and you can expect PLENTY of 50/50 go route balls this year as a rookie for him.

Thomas looked fine. He has room to grow as a consistent player but he def flashed in his limited time. Didn’t realize Lawerence had Engram open for what seems like a pretty easy conversion on the fourth down sack on the little whip in route, and not sure why he didn’t pull the trigger as it seems like his eyes were that direction and it would have either gone to Engram or Kirk on the out since that 2 high safety should almost eliminate Thomas as an option.
But I’m saving any real criticism or praise of Lawerence until the real games start in Miami.

Thank you for this excellent film break down. It looks as if BTJ may be further along than I thought. I see him being used mainly as a decoy this year to open up the middle of the field for Kirk, Engram and ETN to work. His teammates really seem to like him and enjoy his humble nature.

Loved watching the sideline reaction on that big catch. Not just from the Offensive guys like Davis, Lawrence and Kirk, that's to be expected. But even the Defensive guys like Campbell, Foye and Cisco were right there all pumped up.
Love to see it.

I can see it being a bit short, but if he throws in front of him that safety is either going to get there or light him up.
We’ll just have to disagree then. I think the only reason the safety was that close was because the ball was so short.
