These two picks are a commitment to stopping the run and helping the pass rush. Not sexy by any means, but neither were The Goose and Mt. Washington.
How can you not see depth at edge as a big need? The backup edges on our current roster combined for only 1 sack last year.
Agreed, edge is still a huge need. Was one of the biggest needs on this team before the draft started and we havent drafted one yet

I've been concerned about this since March 12th.
I was concerned about this the same time last year, during last years draft.

He's been pretty durable if you look through the log of career starts and snap counts.
Would be great to have depth not named Fortner behind him, but...

He definitely would fit what Baalke looks for. If he played for LSU this would be a " no brainer."

Fortner is going to be the Jags backup center regardless of whether or not they draft one moving forward. It is what it is.

i like Morse, I just want a viable replacement on the roster behind him when the season starts.

I think a couple UDFA can take Fortner's spot if the coaches are honest about who looks best on the field instead of just hoping Fortner one day turns into something

Odds we draft Mekhi Wingo with this pick?
04-27-2024, 02:37 PM
Let's not forget...the Jags have won 18 games over the past two seasons with Fortner as their center. They need better, but I'm doubting they are drafting a better backup center in the 5th round. It's just not realistic.

Less than 10%
Keeper Charles Turner on your minds.

Yeah it IS Baalke drafting after all. But then RB might be the pick if Baalke goes Baalke on us

Christian Jones, Gabe Hall or Johnny Wilson here for me would be good.

Shatley has played some center, yes? He can’t be worse than Fortner.

to small for Baalke
Malik Washington please. Calling it now, he will be the steal of the draft. Kamara would be a great pick too

You really thinking Fortner cannot be upgraded by a fifth rounder? He’s weak and has poor technique.

Rattler in the 5th is a great pick for the Saints

The biggest need has always been o-line. We had 3 tackles in 2023 all the rest were ineffective or injured. During FA we patched together a very average line of long in the tooth vets. Cool, however, because we took this approach we need backups for these guys as being senior citizens (nfl time) they will need rest. A bigger issue is them missing games.
The last 2 seasons the AFC South division winner only won the division because the offensive line of a team got hurt and the team lost a bunch of games. Titans in 2022 and Jags 2023.
