My wife has a very good friend that she works with. Nice young lady, single mother of three.

Earned income tax credit... ~6000

Monthly as survivor benefits... 1600

That's over 25000. In not sure if Medicaid or obamacare is involved. When you add up potential food stamps, childcare etc. Some families can be eligible in excess of 40k depending on circumstances.

This is the most generous country on earth. If you listen to Bernie Sanders you'd think rich people were out raiding our homes in the dead of night spray painting hayeck 2020 on the wall.
But... everyone needs to pay their "fair share".

What's the monthly survivor benifit? Did her husband die in service or something?
There is a surivir benefit as part of the old age survivor and disability insurance program (social security). The number is anecdotal but its from the beneficiary.

Earned income tax credit... 8900

Monthly as survivor benefits... 1600

That's over 28000. In not sure if Medicaid or obamacare is involved, lets just round in another 2k. That's 30k in available government assistance....

$30K sure does go a long damn way for a single mother of three, doesn't it?
So that's something they paid into then that's different than welfare. I thought it was a young lady so im missing something?

I know low income families get large tax refund payments but the survivor benefit in addition to that has me confused?

Even with the large refund I argue that poor family is paying to much In taxes hopefully they are wise with it and use it to get out of poverty eventually.
Through the miracle of an earned income tax credit you are refunded money that you never actually put into the system.

In the case of social security she is a young person. The actual legislation was called the old age SURVIVOR and disability insurance act. There is a provision for a surviving parent or guardian to be the beneficiary as long as the children are under a certain age.
Bernie Sanders is using class warfare to win votes, which all communist   I meant Socialist do.

The bottom quintile in the USA have a negative federal income tax number. The bottom 45% have a number of zero.
Lol, your thread is miss named. This is clearly the "I hate poor people" thread...

Typical conservative bait and switch... just like "the partriot act". Lol

I'm still not sure why you believe we hate poor people? I've spent most of my life working to improve their lot.

In addition to her salary? Yeah, that will go a long way.

By the way, this is a lie... a single mom cannot get 8900 from the eic... check out the irs before you post something that is wrong! The most a single mom can get is about 6000, and that's only if she's got three kids and is making about 25,000. The slides around that income amount.

But, man I hate hate the poor and that commie pig Bernie Sanders.

Am I doing this right?

Also, where are you getting 28,000 from your numbers? Lol
1600 × 12 = 19200

+ 8900 = 28100

I know math is hard for you Bernie supporters but most computers have a calculator function.

Oh man... that's hilarious!

you don't get that much from the eic
Also, why are you up in arms regarding her survivor benefits?

Do you think people whose spouse or parent dies should not have support by the government?
I never said u did. Ur not having a very good day today.
You just said that your wife's friend is getting 8900 from the eic... Lol, a simple search proves you are either lying or don't know what your friend's tax situation really is and are merely talking out your backside in order to support your skewed world view.

I didn't say I audited her I am conferring what I was told

Ok.... but, dude, you can't come into the jungle and use something you heard, which cannot be confirmed and is wrong, and then use it to make a political point. Especially when your point can, will, and was used to bash poor and underpaid workers...

That's not how this should work...
