There was a blurb on ESPN saying that instead of visiting Seattle, he was headed to Jax for a visit. ESPN didn't have info on him, but NFL.com has a bit on him
here. Anyone have any insight into him?
He's awfully small for an OT. I don't know enough about him, really, to say anything more than that. 6'3" 300 is a short, small little package of a left tackle.
Very good tackle. Covering Big Bens blindside isn't an easy job at all and he his done a great job when healthy.
Ryan O'Halloran tweeted that he will visit Jaguars Monday per source!
Nice!
I was wondering when Dave would bring a little competition in for joekel.
I'd love to see luke do well.
But IMHO the replays of him flailing at this air when a defender blows past him don't give me much hope for anything near consistent production from him.
Idc if he plays great 96 put of a hundred snaps. The 4 snaps that he gets floundered on and the rusher has a clear shot @bb5?
They scare the bejezzus outta me.
I don't think you can teach or train that outta a guy.
Best case ...his whiffs get us losses.
Worst case his wiffs get bb5 killed and we're stuck with Chad at qb.
So ....yeah....PLEASE...bring this guy and 5 more on!!!!
Young, talented with good hands and feet technique, but coming off an October torn ACL that makes him a little bit of a gamble.
Would love to have him but not getting my hopes up. Sounds like he wants to start and I doubt Dave/Gus will promise him that.
Just like with Ayers, he will want to start and not be rotational. That is of course assuming he wants to start at LT and that he is not open to playing LG.
If you guys actually think there's a stud LT floating out there in free agency that only a few teams are interested in and has survived the first few days of free agency unsigned, I feel sorry for you.
I'm glad the team is at least addressing the LT issue.

Id rather a 6'3 Tackle who can move his feet and not get beat every speed rush than a 6'6 one who looks like he is standing in tar

Are you sure that's the case or are you just cherry picking a few bad plays here and there? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Luke Joeckel. I think he's got one more year to prove himself and if he doesn't, I want him out the door. I just don't think we want to throw somebody, anybody in there because we don't like Joeckel.
Outside of Joe Thomas, who are the great left tackles of today? Joeckel's an average tackle. Not great, but not bad either.
Let's not forget he is coming off a mid season ACL. He may not even be ready to play by the start of the season and of he does he may not even be that effective. With that said I like what it looks like on paper.

Not saying he would beat out Joeckel by any means, But Gus preaches competing but yet Luke has been there guy without question from day one and no one has been brought in to challenge him. Seems odd with the type of philosophy Gus has. With that being said id love to see Luke joeckel get beat out by someone better. Even if this happens someone should have to WIN the job.
“Beachum was one of the best pass-blocking tackles in 2014, with a third-best 97.5 pass blocking efficiency. Unfortunately, an ACL injury cut his 2015 campaign short before he could continue to build on the previous year’s success. After a rocky opening weekend against the Patriots where Beachum allowed four pressures, he allowed just two pressures over the next five games before being injured this season. He’s been average as a run blocker so far in his career, but with pass protection at a premium nowadays, his pass-blocking grades and ceiling are quite valuable.”
If it is a true competition then if/when he knee is 100% he will send Luke to the bench in short order.
Based on all factors, including the knee injury and the competition for Kelvin Beachum services, how does everyone envision the type of contract that he will end up signing for with the Jags or another team?

Time is not his friend right now. The longer the FA seconds tick away, the more dollars elude him. I don't know what his bonus and salary numbers will end up being but I'm fairly certain that the ratio between guaranteed bonus dollars and salary dollars will decrease as time goes on.
I would guess somebody at this point would extend something in the neighborhood of 2-3 years with $15-$18 million total with a signing bonus of possibly $7 million?
If healthy he takes the LT spot in my opinion.

And unless he's got t-rex arms, he should be able to get under the pads of most rushers. "Short" can also mean leverage if he's got good technique.
This is what Caldwell lives for. He identifies these types of players. This is what the good GMs do. Find the Harrisons, Bennetts and Welkers of the world.
