Holy crap.

Deals like this scare me. You give someone too much money and they stop caring.

Front-load it and we're good.

Who could possibly stop caring when they come here to the beach with $15m/year and a SB Ring?

Below RG3 and Manziel (if cut) probably.

Just look at this as if Alualu really did turn out to be a great player and we just locked him up long term.

Are you nuts? Front-loaded contracts are begging for guys to dial back their intensity. They've gotten paid, they've got most of their money, now all they have to do is ride it out until they're cut so they can keep all their cash.
Quote:New rules, teams can exchange and agree on contracts, but they can't sign until FA officially begins. Either side could reconsider before then.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I really think Jackson was a product of those around him more than an actual stud lineman, and I hate throwing tons of money at guys like that.
You may be right but him next to marks on passing downs with fowler and hopefully Irvin and odrick/davis? That's legit.
That is beastly
Nice

Depends on his personality but front-loading will help the team in the long run. We're going to have a lot of guys (including a franchise QB) who we're going to need a lot of money for in a couple of years.
Some of you are really amazing. If the Jags hadn't signed anyone, the torches and pitchforks would be out in full force. The Jags get a premier FA and people are complaining about overpaying. To put this into perspective, Denver was offering the guy 13 million per year. We paid 2 million more per year. You ALWAYS overpay free agents. If you don't, someone else will. That's the game folks.

Yup. Plus he just won a Super Bowl. Looks like we will see another free agent with no motivation taking a vacation.

It's not about paying guys. It's about paying the right guys. Trust the guy who's spent most of the past two seasons watching Broncos games, Jackson is the "product of his surroundings" guy. He's Dave Thomas, the cornerback who went from looking really good when paired with Fernando Bryant, Donovin Darius and Carnell Lake to being godawful with the Giants after losing those players around him. Without Ware, Miller and Wolfe pulling attention off of him, Jackson will struggle.

If we'd signed Vernon to an offer sheet larger than that, I'd be stoked. There are FAs out there I'd love to sign, but pursuing guys who were, in many ways, the weakest link on their team at that position and throwing monster contracts at them worries me.

And you will complain about people complaining no matter what.
