Quote:I envision it more of a case of Malik rotating in with Odrick and Sen'Derrick at the strong DE and the DT spots. Roy and Abry likely remain the NTs as Malik isn't exactly a low-center-of-gravity NT.
Except on 3rd and long.

They could have Malik&Marks in the middle with Odrick& Fowler outside.
Quote:Is it a value pick?  That all depends on what one thinks that "value" means.  Yes it's a lot of money, but on the other side, he was one of the most sought after free agents, and would have gone to another team for slightly less money.

Every free agent is overpaid.

As long as you're getting the best talent, it's worth it.

Most had him as the top, or at worst one of the top, free agents.  That makes him worth it.
He can buy Wayne Weaver's former riverfront home on Thursday if he wants.
Quote:Does anyone else see that Jackson is not listed as a DT rather then DE. Everywhere.

This is why I keep scratching my head as to why so many here think he's taking over for Miller. I don't think so.

With this signing I have to think Alualu's days are numbered.

Not so fast... he played RIGHT end in Denver...

I think in the base alignment, Jackson will be rotating with Marks and Odrick.  In pass rush sub packages, I can seem him at either DT spots.

...in a base 3-4. He's not a nose tackle, most similar to what Miller and Jones play.

He's going to be all over the defensive line. It's up to the coaches to put him in the right position to succeed.

I agree.  Which is the LEFT side...
You put up Jackson, Marks, Miller and Odrick/Alualu up front...

What do you think our linebackers are going to do behind them?  Just our current ones, not considering any additions or substitutions (like Fowler at OLB, etc..)

???

Our linebackers would have all day to stuff or cover.  Regardless of what the offense chooses.

With Irvin most likely joining along with Telvin there is no excuses. Poz is a stud defending the run, but we definitely need to get a LB behind him that can come in and excell in coverage on 3rd down. Fowler/Marks/Malik/Odrick on pass obvious downs, or swap out Odrick for Irvin, that's actually probably most likely scenario.

Man, Fowler/Marks/Malik/Irvin...how sick is that?
@themalikjackson97God is good.. I can't wait to start the next chapter of my football life. Thank u Denver for everything it's been real. WHATS GOOD JACKSONVILLE let's get theses dubs and start to change the culture in Jacksonville #TheTrendIsMyFriend #blessed #positiveliving

If we get to the QB like we should with what were going to do in draft and FA it will really help last years players we signed mostly House who was picked on a little too much IMO he played well but u can't ask a guy to cover for 8 seconds haha!

Love the Jags, and love what were doing right now! Big things coming!!!

Jackson, Marks, Miller, Odrick ????

While all have some pass rush ability, none are the outside LEO pass rusher Bradley's defense relies on.

So Fowler and Miller are starters, and either Jackson, Marks or Odrick will be on the sideline.

Odrick was one of Caldwell's key acquisitions last year. If Jackson isn't a replacement for Marks, it makes no sense to spend $15M per year on someone who plays the same position. I guess this implies that Caldwell thinks (knows?) that Marks is done. That's a sad thought.

Not at all dude. We rotate all the time. Nothing wrong with one of Odrick or Marks coming off the bench. You need depth on the DL.
Wow.

I don't get why so many folks are thinking this signing is going to displace Marks or Odrick significantly.

Marks and Jackson equally splitting reps at 3 tech sounds AMAZING to me.

As for getting your money's worth out of Jackson - put him at NT on 3rd and long - put him at LEO in "heavy" packages - and then rotate him a bit at big end on 2nd down and distance.

He's versatile, he can be moved creatively for mismatches, and he doesn't have to "spell the end" for any key linemen we already have.

Stop connecting dots prematurely, folks.

This is one big reason I don't like the move. Grossly overpaying is bad enough, but paying a player $15 million that will see a lot of sideline with Marks and Odrick eating into his reps seems like a bad idea.

Jackson will be the 6th highest paid non qb in the league. He's not even a top 50 player, let alone top 6.

I suspect here will be a lot of regret and second guessing on this contract at the end of the season.

Having said all that, he's a good player and for all intents and purposes a Jag now so I wish him the best and will be rooting for him.

Afraid to put Jackson at RDE in a 4-3?

Forget "LEO," we're not likely to ever meet him/her/it.  Might as well be Larry, Curley, or Moe.

You're over analyzing it.  I'd say over thinking, but I'm not sure you've really thought about it all that much.

You can put up the front four I had, and still have Fowler, Poz, and/or Telvin at LB depending on down.  Don't box your imagination only by what you think you know.

These players give us flexibility like we haven't had when so short on talent.  That's not even considering who else we may add.

I'd bet a thousand bucks that Jackson is on the field for 80 percent of the defensive snaps at one position or another in 2016.

I don't get the concern.

I don't get it, either.  If he were "replacing" guys then they'd be cut the moment he was signed.

Keep adding talent.  Let it sort itself out.
