His job is to pressure the QB. where he does that from seems irrelevant.

It is irrelevant to most here. As long as he's getting after the QB, that should be what matters. Not where he's doing it from.

It's irrelevant. What position does JJ Watt play? He may be listed as a RDE but he plays all over the line.

People should look at how Michael Bennett, Jabaal Sheard, and JJ Watt are used. Or just look at how Florida used Fowler. That's how we are going to use him here. Difference between Fowler and those guys is that he can also play snaps at linebacker effectively. He's like Justin Houston and Khalil Mack (not the same level of athlete, but his versatility and impact are similar).

Lol wow that was a legitimate question... Why does everything has to be a debate? And im pretty sure pash rusher wont be his only job seeing his skill set.

This team is frustrating.
If you recall, there was a prevailing sentiment the defense was actually the strength of the team during and after the 2014 season.

Quote:Based on the improvements we saw with the defense in 2014 as the season progressed, there was nothing to indicate that would not continue in 2015. They somehow managed to manufacture a pass rush in 2014 with almost no legitimate pass rush guys on the roster. So, to say Babich was a "consistently BAD" coordinator is a load of crap. In fact, it's funny because many here were critical of Babich in 2014 because they had to scheme to get a pass rush, and they made significant improvements in that regard that season compared to 2013. Apparently, coaching to get to the QB by calling plays that worked to the strengths of his guys in 2014 was a bad thing. But, when they did the same thing this past season to try to get a pass rush, and it didn't net the same results in 2015, it was once again a bad thing, and a lack of decent coaching."So, to say Babich was a 'consistently BAD' coordinator is a load of crap."
It's amazing how folks like you can pretty much play both sides of the fence to complain about coaches...or players...or front office personnel...or the owner...or the stadium....or anything else you complain about because you know better. Why is it that none of you are actually working for a team in the league with this overabundance of football brilliance? You should really consider compiling your body of work from this message board, crafting a resume, and sending it out to all 32 teams.
...well okay. If he wasn't a bad DC most of the time, then why has our record been so bad since he's been here? If he wasn't so bad, why did we blow games even when the offense did show life? If it wasn't mostly on Babich, then where should the accountability have landed?
answer... on Gus. Babich was his pick, this is Gus's defensive scheme, and Gus is the HC... which is where the buck is supposed to 'stop'. I think we'll all get a reality check this coming season if, once again, our defense is terrible.

Why does there have to be one singular person to blame for the team struggling? Are you not able to think beyond one thing? Is it not possible that in a team sport that accountability can lay at the feet of more than one person in your world?
The team has been bad because it has been lacking enough talent, and has been one of the youngest rosters in the league. That was expected, and by design as the approach taken of building almost exclusively through the draft was going to assure significant growing pains.
The team has been bad because of critical injuries to key players like Marks, Fowler, Poz, Telvin, our entire secondary at some point during the season, Linder, Yeldon, etc.
The team has been bad because the coaching has not been able to find ways to get production from depth players with front line guys were injured, and their backups were either inexperienced, or they were just not close to the same level as the guys ahead of them on the depth chart.
There isn't one single reason for the team struggling as it has over the past 3 years under Bradley. What has been clear is that from 2013 to 2015, the team has improved. It hasn't happened as fast as fans would prefer, but the arrow is still pointing up. 2016 is a huge year for the coaches, players, and front office. If we see another sub .500 season, the rebuild process will certainly warrant re-evaluation. If they don't meet expectations, it will almost certainly cost Gus and his staff their jobs. If the roster seems to be regressing, it could cost Dave his as well.

I had some concerns about Babich, but the timeline for firing him sooner really didn't make sense. It didn't. Despite where the team ranked in 2014, there was clearly improvement as the season progressed as the defense started to figure things out. What was so disappointing this year about the defense was the fact that any progress they made in the prior season didn't seem to carry over. It wasn't so much a lack of effort with the play calling as it was issues with critical injuries and teams figuring out how Babich was going to scheme a pass rush without a legitimate DPR. While his schemes worked in 2014, they didn't this past season, and the complete lack of a pass rush really put our secondary in a bad spot.
If the Jaguars do nothing else this off season, fixing the pass rush on its own will create a lot more opportunity for additional wins. The lack of any sort of sustainable pass rush was a big reason for the struggles on third down this year. Putting pressure on the QB will make that secondary look a heck of a lot better against the pass. There are still holes to address, but getting Fowler and Marks back healthy, adding more line help in the draft and free agency, and finding some veteran talent for the DBs will make a huge difference in how things play out this year.
Babich should have been fired this year, and Gus clearly recognized this. A year ago? Nope. Things seemed to be trending in the right direction at that point. With Wash taking over, a new attitude and a different philosophy that is detail oriented and aggressive should help this team tremendously. That's assuming Wash actually turns out to be the right guy to take this on. We'll know soon enough.

I'm pretty sure pass rusher will be nearly his only job seeing he was drafted #3 overall to do exactly that.
What position he's rushing the passer from is mostly irrelevant. LB, DE, maybe even DT or S (strictly from a positional standpoint, without considering his actual role in the play as drawn up)... his primary job will be to hit the QB and hit the QB hard.

Babich should have never been hired in the first place. Dopey Gus stacked his coaching staff with his ice cream buddies whether they were effective or not.

These are people we are talking about. I hope you don't have a career were your boss hired you and saw potential in you and then fired you immediately after they saw you fail without at least not giving you a chance to learn and grow from your mistakes while never building a personal relationship with you so when they fire you they never even consider your family and financial needs.
