Lol at the people who think that Gus wasn't involved in the defense at all. He certainly was.
Quote:I agree, obviously Shwartz would have been a great signing but outside of that I think this is the best option.

Ha, why??
Quote:Another Boneheaded move my Gus. I'm sorry, I disagree with this move big time. Are you telling me that you couldn't find a coach more qualified. It feels like to me that he just settled cause he could not get anyone to take the job.

It has nothing to do with Gus not bringing in an experienced coach, and everything to do with no experienced coach wanting to try and fix a broken defense on what is essentially a 1 year contract. People don't jump onto sinking ships unless they have something to gain. Todd Wash has something to gain, Jim Shwartz - not so much.
Well, if we see a turn around with the D like we saw with the O when we made that "awful" hire of Olsen last year, I am all for it.

I like the move. It's like MojoKing said, there are no more scapegoats for Gus. We're going to see how he responds to knowing it's time to win or go home.
I also think that this means Gus will be calling plays.  I am sure we will find out tomorrow.  People seem to have forgotten that Gus was a hell of a defensive coordinator in the past.

But there were no more scapegoats for Gus going into this season regardless who he named DC. Todd Washburn has shown us nothing that he could be a successful play-caller.
Quote:Lol did you expect someone to take this dumpster fire job? Might as well ask him to buy the rope

You are dead wrong about that, Doc Holliday.   The Jags' DC job is actually extremely attractive, because next year we will have Sen'Derrick Marks, Dante Fowler, maybe Jalen Ramsey or Joey Bosa, and probably some new free agent talent as well.   The new Jags' DC is going to take over a much improved defensive roster, so when the results accrue from all that new talent, our new DC will look like a hero.   Just wait- this time next year, we'll all be wringing our hands about how we might lose Todd Wash to some other team.
So, what good head coaches are out there for 2017?

What are you - a Niners fan?
Quote:Should've fired Babich during the season and given Wash an on the job interview

Absolutely not. We were still in the playoff race after Week 15. Teams usually don't go to the playoffs after firing assistant coaches. It would be like giving up on the season because Todd Wash has never been a DC.

Quote:I'm thinking this means Gus is taking over the play calling

It seems like most people on the board were expecting that regardless of who Bradley hires to fill the DC job.

Bucs. Same thing.

5 coaches in 9 years.
Who cares? This bozo will be fired along with dopey Gus after next season when the defense once again gets lit up every week.

I'm with you.

Btw, why the hate for Wash as a dline coach? He did well in Seattle and with what he's had here to work with on the line he's done solid. Clem is over the hill and Branch is a massive bust that just doesn't have any moves. Nothing you can blame Wash on. Add some talent and I think some of you will be surprised. Coaching can only do so much for players.

I wanted a fresh set of eyes, but Wash was better than a lot of possibilities I saw floating around, and that's a fact.
Quote:Ha, why??

Well the other guys we interviewed weren't exactly world beaters. I do wonder if they had their eyes on someone in playoffs but wanted to make a hire before the senior bowl?

Not if we go to the playoffs next season. That would guarantee Gus Bradley stays on as our HC.

Idk who is saying he wasn't at all, but Poz sure made it sound like he had little input as far as talking and helping the players one on one. Poz said hed be happy with ANY input at seasons end from him.

He brought in Shwartz, it's not like he didn't try. None of the successful play callers out there were taking a 1 year deal so they could work 100 hours a week trying to fix a defense, else they be fired. No sane human would say "deal!" to "ok, move to this city, move your family, oh and if we don't win in a year we're probably going to get canned." These are human beings, not football robots with a credit card scanner that you rent for a while.

Gus owns it now, and he knows his job is on the line.
Another 5-11 season coming up.

This thread is destined to be an epic moan-fest.
