Quote:Why do you call him Washburn in your second sentence?

Nobody said Babich to Wash is a "major" upgrade.

Exactly.

I see it as an upgrade personally because I like what Ive read and seen about Wash when he was in Seattle and what he's done with some players here, and I hated the Babich hire and he's been utterly pathetic since being here. I honestly don't see how it could get worse going to Wash with how pathetic Babich has been the last few years.
Quote:Playoffs were a long shot. Should've been fired after the 2nd titans game.

If we did that do you think we would have limited the Colts offense to three field goals the next week?

We also scored on defense that day.

Quote:Dante Fowler and Sen'Derrick Marks are coming back. At this point the favorite to be our first round pick is Jalen Ramsey (several draft analysts are mocking him at #5). Then there is the #38 pick, who likely also will be a defensive player.

So pretty much two players who essentially missed the year and a rookie is what we're hedging our bets on?
Quote:He brought in Shwartz, it's not like he didn't try. None of the successful play callers out there were taking a 1 year deal so they could work 100 hours a week trying to fix a defense, else they be fired. No sane human would say "deal!" to "ok, move to this city, move your family, oh and if we don't win in a year we're probably going to get canned." These are human beings, not football robots with a credit card scanner that you rent for a while.

Gus owns it now, and he knows his job is on the line.
While I mostly agree, I imagine Shwartz would of been one of the top candidates to take Gus' place.

How about the free agents and draft picks who were not injured last year? We certainly will get some of those.

And an FA class and draft class, yes. Considering our run defense was great when Marks came back and went down the toilet after a major injury that usually takes 2 years to come back to full strength on and we threw branch and Clem out there at LEO, I sure feel pretty good about it.

It was obvious we missed SM. Our defensive line was much better during the few games he played in.

With Schwartz going to Philly with their new HC I find it obvious that he wanted a stable situation since he has a family that he doesn't want to constantly uproot. Coming here with Gus possibly getting fired after this year, he'd have to go out and find a whole new job next year if he didn't get our HC gig if this year we don't improve. Can't blame a highly regarded defensive mind like Schwartz passing on us.
Gus is basically the playcaller. Wash is the defensive coordinator in title only. Gus is a lame duck if he doesn't succeed in 2016.
just understand...it was a weird alignment of the stars and a blue moon the Jags were even thinking about playoffs and it will never happen again.

also a fluke that we won as many games as we did.

Don't count to much on Marks, love the player but he has gotten 2 years older while we wait for him to heal....that's TWO YEARS out of his life.

Fowler?....He's got to learn to practice....much less play without hurting himself.

All the UFA? Free agency scares me,.....good players want to come to the Jags?......so many just want a Florida vacation...I hope Caldwell is careful.

Players you draft?....well what happened to your first rounder last year....seems better ones down the draft order a little bit...first rounders just don't seem to work for us....# becausejaguars.

As far as the "new" DC....that should have been announced long ago since it was coming anyway....

Buddyism and Nepotism is alive and well in Jacksonville.

I actually like this move as it pertains to Gus Bradley. Gus goes into the season with the hand that he dealt himself. He'll have a massive defensive free agency and a defense heavy draft to work with. If the defense fails yet again next year he can't blame anyone but himself. This is his defensive scheme and his second defensive coordinator hire. If we're still a bottom 5 defense next year, Gus Bradley will have no excuses and it will be a lot easier for Caldwell and Khan to fire him.

Pretty much.  It's on his shoulders.  No scapegoats.
Gus hired his puppet.
I understand that Gus was limited.  Maybe we should have fired Babich last year along with Fisch.  Not like our Defense was great last year.  Still not sure how much Olson is responsible for this offense.  Wash will look better than Babich simply because we'll have better players.  Hopefully we'll get results from it, regardless of how good of a coach Wash is or not.

Also he looks a lot like Bradley (apparently enough for a Patriots website to mistake Wash for our head coach)

Quote:If that's the case, Gus will sink or swim squarely on his ability to turn around the defense.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with that.

Gus is supposed to be a defensive minded HC, surely he is aware that the defense has to play better then last year, he should have a say in what defense is run.
Quote:What are you - a Niners fan?

At least they have been to the super bowl in the last five years. When's the last time the Jaguars went to the super bowl?

I honestly think that Todd Wash might be good, but it's easy to see why people would be skeptical. This team has been terrible the last 5 or six years.

LOL.

Someone definitely peed in your cornflakes this morning, huh?

Sheesh - I hope it's not actually as gloomy as you see it.
No reason to fire Babich If everyone is saying "well yea, when we get better players this year then Wash will do well."
