Notice DB coachs were interviewed. We will also hire one of them. Wash may still coach DL but I seem to think they will hire someone here to. All before Monday
Quote:just understand...it was a weird alignment of the stars and a blue moon the Jags were even thinking about playoffs and it will never happen again.

also a fluke that we won as many games as we did.

Don't count to much on Marks, love the player but he has gotten 2 years older while we wait for him to heal....that's TWO YEARS out of his life.

Fowler?....He's got to learn to practice....much less play without hurting himself.

All the UFA? Free agency scares me,.....good players want to come to the Jags?......so many just want a Florida vacation...I hope Caldwell is careful.

Players you draft?....well what happened to your first rounder last year....seems better ones down the draft order a little bit...first rounders just don't seem to work for us....# becausejaguars.

As far as the "new" DC....that should have been announced long ago since it was coming anyway....

Buddyism and Nepotism is alive and well in Jacksonville.

Buddyism and Nepotism are huge parts of the NFLs coaching culture, not just Jacksonville.
I like the hire. Wash is one of the few true experts on this scheme, and he's proven he can scheme well enough to stop the run which is essential in this league. Wash has been with Del Rio all the way back to his days at Tampa Bay. You can always tell that Gus has his vision for the perfect defense, and Wash is right there on the same page with him.

I'm just curious is Wash will call the defensive plays for the first time ever in his career.

Quote:Playoffs were a long shot. Should've been fired after the 2nd titans game.

Should have been fired after the first Texans game.

Quote:Yawn. Has to be the most unimpressive hire since Mularkey. Oh well. So now who takes Wash's old job?
Some low-level defensive assistant whose primary job until now has been cutting tape and making the ice cream runs, probably.

Perhaps Jerome Henderson as assistant head coach/defensive backs, pass defense coordinator or some title like that?

He won't. That's all but a guarantee.

This "Scheme" hasn't worked in 3 years.

15 out of 16 ain't bad.
The hire to me signals that Gus has/had no intention on changing the defensive scheme.  Wash is a qualified coach, and highly likely the best hire for Gus's scheme.  As much as I wanted an outside DC with proven experience and new scheme, with Gus probably on a one year leash, changing the scheme with a different incoming coach was likely not feasible for Gus. Wash, like Gus, will be on the same one year leash.

Yah it's been pretty cut and dry, really.
Quote:No reason to fire Babich If everyone is saying "well yea, when we get better players this year then Wash will do well."

LOL Bob Babich had to go. I think the Todd Wash promotion was a result of missing out on better coaches due to the unexpected short supply after Black Monday. (Who could have guessed so many would be retained?)
I honestly dont see what the big fuss is all about. Ive seen people saying that this is Bob Babich all over again which is false. Babich was a proven failure as DC in Chicago when he was there. Wash has never even had a chance to coordinate a D at this level he may be good or he may fail. The one thing I do know is that the biggest problem the DC had this past year is lack of pass rushing talent , fix that with any combo of Mario Williams, Olivier Vernon, Vinny Curry (IF he hits the market), Von Miller (IF he hits the market), then getting Fowler and Marks back healthy as well. Do that and no matter who is calling the plays the talent will make whoever is calling plays look like a genius.

The Todd Wash promotion, if you believe what you read on this MB, came about because Gus was only doing his due diligence on other candidates, and intended to promote Wash from the start.

We did not play against 16 different running backs.

We haven't had the talent to run it properly. Fowler's return should help a lot.

Keep in mind they've invested a lot of time into teaching the scheme with the players so far. The best option at this point is to keep on building with hope that key missing pieces will finally be in place. To blow everything up and start over with a new scheme would set the Jaguars back a bit.

One top tier FA pass rusher plus healthy Marks/Fowler plus an upgrade at FS and Babich may have looked decent.
Also another thing people fail to realize is the fact that Bob Babich was more of  a "Tampa 2" coordinator so I imagine he was learning on the fly as well , where as Wash has been in this D since Seattle and their dline was awesome because they had actual pass rushing talent.

We did play 16 games though.

Checkmate.

I never read any posts suggesting Gus Bradley always wanted to promote Todd Wash. In this thread it seems like people are surprised about the hire.

Who did Gus Bradley interview to satisfy the Rooney Rule?
Quote:The wait and see approach has never failed me.

How long have you been waiting and seeng?
