Quote:Oh so Gus needs top tier talent at every level to be a good coach? Got it.

Talent level is just an excuse. A good coach gets the most out of the players he has. The Bears seem to be playing at least average on defense and they have less than or equal talent to us.
I mean maybe that's true, but you've obviously made up your mind about it. The fact is there are deficiencies on defense. Could someone else get more out of them, perhaps, but to ignore all other possibilities other than coaching is kind of narrow minded. I'm not a huge fan, trust me, but there are other factors at play as well.

I'm not disagreeing that there are spots on the defense that need work. We all know the pass rush sucks, FS needs work and Poz is old and slow in coverage.

However, consistently saying that this is only a talent issue is incorrect. Teams can at least be average if their coach can put them in situations to succeed. Bears this year. Cowboys last year.

Im not asking for the 85 Bears but come on. 40+ to the Titans? Rivers looking like 2009 Rivers?
Quote:Rivers looking like 2009 Rivers?
Rivers scored 0 TDs the week before and after us.

after this week... I've got nothing left.

If we win some more games, great.

I'm not expecting much
Not sure what scheme would fit this talent (cess) pool of defensive players, but Gus has been way too stubborn in making adjustments to fit the talent level better. To make this Seattle cover 3 work, you need to have a great d-line and great defensive backs.

Someone will lose their job. Gus might be kept, but Babich won't see past this season. Just can't keep it going, being the worst defense in franchise history.
Quote:All of this boils down to one thing we made a critical mistake at the start of the rebuild instead of building a scheme around the players we had or could get we drafted for a scheme that we did not have the players for and still don't
That pretty much sums it up. The irony here is that knowing we don't have the talent to run the 'seattle type' zone defense, after almost three seasons the coach is still sticking to it!
I have faith in Caldwell to gather the talent necessary to get this defense on track for next year. But as it stands right now, you're right, we are absolute trash talent wise. Apart from Telvin, House, and Odrick, everyone else is average to below average at best. Gratz is atrocious, and a potato could provide more pass rush than Clemons and Branch. I think this defense would look a lot different if Caldwell had been able to land McCourty and the injuries to Marks and Fowler hadn't occurred. In other words, I think what Caldwell's original view for the defense  in 2015 didn't come to pass, and it has showed in a bad way.

I think seeing a coach jumping around the locker room when the few times , they manage to eek out a win, is the most nauseating thing I've ever seen.

Have you ever seen any other coach....you know from the other 31 teams in the league.....doing this? It's pretty obvious.....it doesn't motivate any of them to decisively win games. We win games totally by accident.

These are a bunch of millionaires that to KEEP their jobs next year.... have to learn their positions, their jobs and show up in shape and ready to produce as a team.

Rah rah never won diddily squat.

This isn't high school......this is professional football in the NFL

There is 2 healthy players on the starting d that would start for other teams. There is just not enough talent that should be fixed next FA and draft
This is after the team failed a forth down.  He loved the effort

Quote:Do you think Gratz, Cyprien, Evans, and Bennett would have failed to develop under Belichick? How good would Colvin and McCray be? Would McCray and Davis be on the bench?

This team would be at least 6-6 with better defensive coaching. Blitzing Hoyer on 3rd down would have won the Texans game. Why is McCray on the bench? Why is Davis not starting? Why was Chris Smith inactive yesterday?

I don't think coaching is the problem with gratz cyprien and Evans especially evan he's not even starting material. Bennett I don't know its hard to tell with pass rushers most of the time they either have it or they don't you don't really see to many develop into pass rushing monsters.

Gratz hasn't shown me anything to think he's a diamond in the rough he can't cover that's not coaching. Cyprien taking bad angle I guess is coaching but do you really need coaching on tackling at this level isn't that something they should know by now?
There is some talent on this defense.  No it's not a perfect roster, especially with guys like Fowler and Marks out, two you were counting on to give you some pressure on the line.  With that said, the performance on Sunday was pathetic.  People say execution is the player's responsibility but getting the players prepared is also a coach's responsibility.  The defense played hard but made mistake after mistake and the frustrating thing about it was how well the offense played.  Something has to change.

Might as well not even have coaches since it's clearly a players league.....
Quote:Actually we'd be 6-6 with a better kicker alone. Tack on a few less turnovers and we'd be 8-4.

What you don't get is that we could be sitting at 6-6 or even 7-4 RIGHT NOW with the same kicker and a better coach.

So yeah, alot of if's and butts to go around.  But let's not ignore that the coach sucks along with the other short falls of this team.

So with a better coach and a better kicker you think this team is possibly 9-2?

You are on crack.

lol, I think I figured out why you got a warning now.

To be honest with you, you have to be careful, those warning givers are a sensitive bunch, but I think you already know this.

I'm on something, that's for sure...  I think this season lined up pretty well for us to have made a monster run.  With kicker that doesn't miss and a better coach this team could easily be 8-3.  No doubt in my mind.

Tell me about it.  I got to mind my p's and q's now!

If you think this roster could be competing for home field advantage right now then you are completely delusional.
Quote:Not even. Maybe with Belichick in charge, but under Mularkey we wouldn't even be in games like we have been. We'd be lucky to have a win. At least Gus can motivate his players and knows how to hold a press conference without putting viewers to sleep.

I'm not sure if I missed the sarcasm font on this one.  Um, Mularkey beat Gus yesterday...

And the Jags have more talent.
Quote:Odrick...a DL was hustling to chase. Telvin sprinted downfield despite there being a Titan player in front of him who could have blocked him. Evans was after the play. Gratz was just typical Gratz and took the wrong angle. Cyprien is chasing from the backside. The only one who looked "slow" was Colvin, who was on the other side of the field. Yet you find this clip to indict the coaching staff?

In fairness , we could post several clips where Odrick literally doesn't do anything (sometimes just stands there )on many plays.
