Quote:Can you do a 1-32? Really interested in where you have Luck and Blake.

Whats the point. I haven't watched more than the odd snap of some of them this year. Only really follow AFC South and those getting the most TV coverage. How is Tyrod throwing it? I have no idea

Plus you could rank the middle of the pack all over the place

Example of Bortles bigger arm than Luck

There are plenty of examples that illustrate that Luck has a great arm. Here are a few that took me just a second to find.

The arm strength argument is tired and old however. Once a QB has demonstrated that they can make all of the necessary throws, which both Bortles and Luck have demonstrated, arguing over who has the stronger arm becomes a moot point. There are nuances at the QB position that separate the good from the great. Joe Flacco and Jay Cutler might have the strongest arms in the league which help to illustrate my point about arm strength and how fruitless the pursuit of this argument is.

The first 2 of those are just rainbows, don't show any zip. That's nothing to do with arm strength every QB in the NFL can complete those throws. As you can see above I said they try and keep Luck in the middle of the field.

Third is from his Pro Day and so is irrelevant.

PS I was only responding to Luck having a stronger arm. Give me Manning over Cutler any day

Quote:I can't think of anything Luck does better than Bortles either. Possibly break tackles?

Are we watching the same guy? He's a streaky passer who makes big errors. They are basically the same guy but Bortles gets the nod for better recent form (last season)
1. Let's start with the basics - Luck is the better athlete. Here are the links to both of their combine numbers:

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/andr...id=2533031

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/blak...id=2543477

It's clear that Luck is faster, has better pocket movement/awareness and by watching game film, he's much stronger.

2. Let's move on to mechanics - Luck has better mechanics. This is backed up by his combine profile, his game tape, his passing delivery, footwork in the pocket, etc.. Here is more info on Luck in this regard. https://youtu.be/ZK3HxoSk608

3. Andrew Luck is second in the NFL (after Matt Ryan) in air yards. This is the measurement of the distance the ball travels in the air before being caught. Blake is #24, after Tyrod Taylor and just before Alex Smith. Of Luck's total passing yardage, 60% is air yards and 40% is YAC, while Bortles' total passing yardage is comprised of 50% air yards and 50% YAC. It's clear that Bortles' receivers do more work for him.

4. In 2016, Andrew Luck has rushed 22 times for 132 yards, a 6.0 average. Bortles has rushed 18 times for 90 yards, a 5.0 average.

5. PFF grades Luck at #12 and Bortles at #23, entering week 6. https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-ran...ng-week-6/

6. Per NFL.com stats, Luck is performing much better than Bortles.

I wanted to provide information and sources to back up my opinions. You clearly have an anti-Luck agenda. That's fine, this is a Jaguars message board, so I would not expect a lotta love for Luck. However, you clearly are the outlier when it comes to Luck hate.

1. Those passes were 60+ yards downfield on the right side of the field, not the middle.

2. Without a strong arm, a QB cannot make that throw.

3. Every QB cannot complete those throws or else they would be doing that regularly, which they are not. Luck throws an exceptional deep ball.

4. The relevancy of the Pro Day video is to show that he has the ability to throw 70+ yards into the wind. He has plenty of arm strength.

Great post, love to see some stats to back up an argument.

Yeah but when lucks stats are bad they bring out wins or injuries. You can't win.

Bortles was substantially better last year and 5 games in I dont think there's much between them . Bortles been a bit more clutch.
Yeah. I like engaging in unwinnable arguments myself from time to time. You know, just to pass the day along.

Mariota sure had a great game vs the Browns defense. Look at that YPA!

Where are all the people who said Bortles was the best and Mariota was garbage? hahaha classic jagsfans  Laughing

They were still half right. Or did that game icing turnover by Mariota do it for you?
