Gus should win 4 more games if he wants to stay.  I think any less than that and he should be let go.  6-10 is an okay record for a third season.  Anything worse than that, and it's just not enough.  We're in the weakest division in the NFL.

Quote:I really don't want to get rid of Olsen, Sullivan, or our LB coach. I believe they will all leave if Gus is gone. I am a little skeptical with Gus leaving for this reason only.

What coaches will be available and what coaches would JAX actually have a shot at hiring?

Sean Payton is he opts out? I don't think he would come to Jacksonville.

Is Marrone really a better head coach? Not really the best interview but he does have a winning season. Maybe being a head coach in a small market is exactly what he needs?

Jim Harbaugh isn't leaving Michigan. Not for another 3 years at least. He is in a perfect situation.

Do we bring back Mike Smith to be our head coach? Great DC for us back in the Stroud/Henderson days.

Jim Schwartz? Pass.

Mangini? Pass.

Josh McDaniels? Young up and coming coach. Did he get a bad rap in Denver? I'm sure he would love the offensive weapons we have on offense.

Norv Turner? Pass.

Feel free to add to the list....
Just because you don't know what's out there, doesn't mean it won't be better. The talent on this team is up and coming and a better coach would lead this team to more wins.

Correct, though that wasn't really trying to make an argument.

Things can always get better, however the counter reaction to that would be that things can always get worse.

Finding a good coach has to be crucial. Especially with the ascending talent we have. Hopefully Khan doesn't F this thing up.

Who would you like to see coaching this team? Be realistic.....

worse than 2-6 or 9 wins in 3 years?

Hue Jackson is my #1 realistic pick. He led the turrible Raiders to 8-8. Has done wonders with Andy Dalton and that offense. Plus he's very respected around the league.

The more I think about it, the more I like Jackson as well. He has a year of experience as a head coach and was fired not because of any real shortcomings of his own, but because a new GM wanted his own guy. He was a successful assistant for many years before that, and has the Cincy offense firing on all cylinders with a version of Andy Dalton that we hardly recognize as Andy Dalton running the show. I'd still be really happy with a Greg Roman hire, but those two along with Payton are kind of 1a, 1b and 1c on my wish list, in no particular order.

I think it's more of a "Participation Trophy" culture. Everything we do is good. We're improving, we'll get there sort of thing... He needs to light a fire under their butts. They're not in a Pop Warner league...

While I don't disagree, it also is worth saying you basically have to accept that it's not going to happen.

Managing only 2-6 against what has to be one of the most favorable schedules, when one includes the state of our opponents not named New England, compared to the remaining 8 games against Indy (with Luck), New Orleans and ATL, Houston, who we've already lost to, the Titans who suddenly look strong, and... well... then there's Baltimore and San Diego who are pretty much right there with us.

I could see 2 more wins this year... but I could as easily see 1 or 0.  I can't see us getting any more.

If we were able to scrape out another 4 wins, would you be in favor of keeping Gus?

With the easiest schedule in the NFL for the rest of the season, are 2 more wins acceptable?  Winning 4 games this year isnt going to sit well with most fans Im afraid, and who can blame a fanbase thats been more than patient? Expectations were higher now that team has been built. 4 wins in a worst division and an easy schedule should put Gus on the hot seat...but it wont.

It's not that black and white for me, but most likely, yes.  That would indicate that there's definite upward movement, more significant than we've seen thus far.  Finishing the year 6-10 would do a lot for my personal optimism,  but ultimately, it's a question of how we looked in those games and what the situations were (i.e. have those teams imploded, significant critical injuries, etc).

I do find it hard to say that at 6-10 I would not feel more positive.

I don't think it will be.  Again, it's not black and white, and a lot of it depends on what the product looks like on the field during the 2nd half of the season, but I honestly believe that a 4-12 season would be the end.

So... now the REAL question...

Since I think 6-10 means stay, and 4-12 means he's gone....

What about 5-11?

Every player in the NFL gets a participation trophy direct deposited into their bank account every week.
I have seen a lot of people make the comment that we need to fire Gus and keep Olson.  Do you not realize that Olson will be gone along with Gus.  Any new head coach that the Jags would bring in would bring in their own coordinators.  I agree that we need to keep Gus and give him next year.  It's obvious that this team has improved.  I was just as disappointed yesterday as anybody else that we lost, and then I realized that I haven't seen us in so many close games in a long time.  This team will figure it out and will get better throughout the rest of the year.  I think we finish 7-9.  99.9% of the people on this board would have taken this record before the season started.

To me 6-10 is bad too and he should go. No more double digit lose seasons. 7-9 or better to stay.

Unless Olson is the new HC?

Or Marronne is the HC and likes Olson as OC.

idk if Gus stays or goes.... I'd like him to be successful here. I like him. But clearly this team is missing something. A bit of fire when you have a chance to put a boot on the throat.... Buffalo, NYJ...

but at the same note, early we had no chance to win, then slim chances...

now good chances to win, just not getting it done...

IDK if a HC change fixes that or if time does.

And 5-3 to finish out the season is basically unrealistic, in my opinion.

At 6-10, if the games looked highly competitive and not just close games against essentially broken teams, I'd have to give him the nod.

Anything less, well... I think the ship sails.
FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!

Ultimately, the team needs to win atleast 6 games this season to show improvement. If they lose out, there's no way you can convince the fan base that Gus should stay.

The team has improved, although there's still issues of inconsistency and undiscipline. That's been the trademark of Gus' tenure.

Not a lot of resources have been spent to improve the talent level on the defense, so if Gus wins 6, I'd agree, he should stay. Lets see what Gus could do with a loy more talent on the defensive side of the ball. If he finishes with 2 or 3, no way can he be kept. I'm not a fan of Gus as a coach, and don't think he's shown any improvement as a coach on gameday, but only a winning streak should save his job.
No, I'm sorry, but we've seen enough. I was a big Bradley supporter. But this is year 3 and he's still making poor coaching decisions (his staff included). Unfortunately, I believe the whole staff needs to be removed. We should be 5-3; possibly 6-2. But we're 2-6 and I don't see it getting any better. What we see is what we get. So until we change what we see, this is what we'll continue to get....

GO JAGS!!

Is any one worried that regardless of what happens the rest of this season, that Khan is going to stick with Bradley no matter what?

Terrified, yes.
