Quote:Yes, because blowing draft picks on stopgap players so that we can go 6-10, win the division, lose 41-14 in the wild card round and be missing draft picks next year is such a great idea. I'd rather go 4-12, lose the division and have those picks on hand for (hopefully) the next coach to use.

Aside from Joe Gibbs' second tenure, every Washington coach in the last decade and a half has been essentially a dead man walking on a yearly basis. That's never stopped free agents from signing there. Ditto the Raiders, who continue to land talent despite changing coaches like Al Davis changed underpants. If you pay them, they will come, and the Jaguars have the ability to pay them.

You would rather not win the division? You are so short sighted.
Quote:We have a shot at winning this division, Caldwell has build a nice young offense for us, giving up 5th, 6th or 7th round pick would not be a bad idea, we have two 6 round picks right now.

I wouldnt give up a high pick, but we need some pass rush help and defensive play makers, if we can get Weddle for a 5th I would do that in a heart beat.

Agreed. We already set on offense. We are not talking a 1st or 2nd rounder.

Denard Robinson, Telvin Smith, Chris Smith, Rashad Greene, Demetrius McCray, Luke Bowanko, Michael Bennett.  All 5th round or later by Caldwell.  You want to give up this potential in drafting for a temp plug?  No way.

I would counter that a desire to mortgage the future so you can go 6-10, "win" the division, get blasted in the wild card round, then find your rebuild to a genuine contender--not just a fluke team that's slightly less awful than the rest of the division--stalled out because you're missing mid and late-round picks is short sighted.

This roster is already 8-8 caliber. If Gus can get the team to 7-9 by some miracle, he's probably won the division. Even 6-10 might do it if he can actually beat some AFCS teams. Do you really want to give up draft picks that will potentially be high in the round in hopes of going 7-9?

Not if it means trading away picks.  You are calling him short sighted, but blantantly ignoring the inference.

If the chargers wanted to trade us Weddle for anyone on that list, they would only take Telvin Smith, the rest are rookies or unproven. Weddle would be worth a 5th.

Exactly right.  This is easy stuff.

Watch what Weddle nets if he gets traded.

If we trade Telvin Smith for a 30-year-old safety, I will eat my Tony Boselli jersey.
Weddle makes zero sense to me.  You're basically renting the guy...even if he's healthy...and then will have to turn around and try to sign him next year.  So you're giving away a draft choice for some guy that you may not even be able to sign.

Yes, the fact that we already have those guys, shows that its time to get more vet help

And for the people who say getting blown out in the playoffs, I rather get beat 100-0 in the playoffs if it means we make the playoffs over not making the playoffs

But like I said in the other thread, we have only been blown out once this year and that was to the Pats and we wont be playing them in the 1st round

flsportsgod had a really good take on it. Trade the pick we got for Scobee to bring in Weddle, but only on the condition that he signs an extension.

The Chargers want to trade Weddle because the realize where they are and want youth.  They'd take probably anyone on that list for Weddle right now.

Not sure why this is so complicated.

And all those guys are on the bench or inactive besides Telvin Smith.

No, it shows the potential for drafting while the guys we already have turn into young vets.
Quote:Agreed. We already set on offense.
You're pretty funny. We are set on offense.  We should trade away picks for old defensive stop gaps.

Glad you're not running this team!

Dookies want "more" than a first rounder for Thomas and at least a 3rd for Mingo? No thanks.
Quote:I would gladly take a handful of magic beans for Gerhart right now.

A handful of magic beans goes a long way.
