Bingo. Thats what all these late round draft picks are, Big question marks. Its very hard to find a Telvin Smith in the 5th or 6th round. Weddle would be our best safety, isn't that saying something?
Quote:oh no we could trade a late round pick that usually amounts to nothing for an impact player
You have a pretty broad definition of "impact player".
Quote:Ah, got it.

And I would to, but that would have been a 24-year-old Willie Young with great potential. This is a 30-year-old Willie Young on the downslope of his career.

Stop with this potential stuff, the Jags have a legitimate chance to win the division this year, if David Caldwell and Gus Bradley deem Willie Young as a guy that can help  that cause they should certainly trade for him. It wouldn't cost more than a 6th or 7th round pick.
Telvin wasn't really a late round find. He likely would've been gone before 5th if he hadn't failed the drug test at the combine. That takes players off of GM's boards.

Quote:By 4pm today, we should have a new pass rusher on our roster.
I agree Willie Young or Vinny Curry please! I doubt it happens though

And it's very hard to find an Allen Robinson. Guess what was pakaged in that trade to move up.

Vinny Curry would EASILY be an impact player on this defense in a 4-3 scheme.

Yes, they can conceivably win this division by giving up the late round picks that Dave has historically used to move around and draft guys like Allen Robinson and Brandon Linder. Never mind that "winning" this division likely means going 7-9, maybe 6-10, and being destroyed in the opening round of the playoffs. Oh, and they're playing without a full deck of cards in the draft next year as a result.

Or they could do nothing and come out all the better for it. For one, if we do win the division, it will be in no small part because Gus would have finally had a light bulb click on and started winning those close games instead of finding new ways to lose. If we don't win the division, it likely gets us a new coach who won't make those mistakes. Why would you give up draft picks, which are generally deemed to be worth more than the players you would trade them for, in hopes of being blasted in the first round of the playoffs, then finding ourselves lagging behind an improved AFCS next year?

I also don't get how some of the same people who are calling for Gus' removal are advocating giving up picks for over-the-hill backups. If Caldwell feels like his job is in danger, he just might go with a little bit of column B. If Caldwell feels secure but knows Gus isn't the guy, column A likely happens at the end of the year and the new coach has a full deck of cards in the draft. If Caldwell feels secure and still thinks that Gus is the answer, then I'm horribly mistaken about him, and we need a new GM.

I like Curry a lot, and this is one trade I wouldn't mind seeing. He's 27 and should be just entering his prime. Could be a long-term contributor.
1 round has been disastrous of late. trade it for some proven talent to help the D, and the jags could very well be in the hunt for the division.
Get to the quarterback, we must.

It's noon, still no pass rusher addition.

Exactly.

Oh really?
We aren't making moves people.

Yeah

Oh no of course not. Branch and Clem are getting it done just fine obvi.

I don't see any logical reasons we should make a trade.  Caldwell is committed to building through the draft.  As Vic used to say, picks not players.  It's not like we are one player away from competing for the Super Bowl.

Nobody is saying that. But I don't see guys like Curry or Willie Young as likely to help much.

So we aren't one pick away so don't try to get better? In a division up for grabs? Gotcha.

I agree about Willie Young but Curry is a legit instant, young impactful upgrade.
