Every year, the effort to learn more about the prospects yields players that draftniks are willing to "pound the table for."
For this draft class, one of those players for me is Solomon Thomas.
Now I was impressed by his bowl game against North Carolina. He was virtually unblockable in that game. But it was only one game.
When I went back and looked at clips from other games, I saw a guy who seems to epitomize the phrase "non stop motor." He was relentless, consistently chasing down plays outside the numbers on the perimeter where some MLBs can't reach.
He is absolute hustle.
He uses his hands well and plays with good leverage. In a nutshell, he is the player Alualu should have been to be worthy of the top ten pick.
Even though the scheme is changing, the need for a guy like Thomas exists because of the release of Odrick and the virtually certain departure of Alualu. He is already a frequent choice to be picked in the top half of the first round in various mocks.
I don't know how he will fare in the combine. I don't know what his measurements will be, and I don't know if scouts will deem him worth the 4th overall pick. But if his measurements put him at least 6-3 with no major medical issues, I could see him ascend up the boards.
Ultimately, whichever team gets him will have themselves an outstanding player from a production and intangibles standpoint.

He is definitely a talented prospect but I still have Adams easily above him.
Thomas is impressive. So impressive that I have him in my top 8...
- Garrett
- Adams
- Allen
- Fournette
- Lattimer
- Cook
- Hooker
- Thomas
He's going to blow up the combine.
Jags need playmakers and this dude next to Jackson Fowler and Yannick would be very tough to defend.
What sucks is this draft has a lot of potential studs towards the top it's hard to make up my mind who I want. Thomas can be a game changer but so can Adams or Hooker or even the RBs.

It sucks only to the extent you want/need to make a decision right now.
But I'm happy the Jaguars have plenty of good options at 4.
It's going to be very hard for the Jags to screw this pick up, so long as it isn't a RB.

Oh I agree. Definitely a good problem to have.

Even then, if the RB becomes a stud for years then it's not a bad pick
I'm warming up to this idea as well.
I might be the only 1 that has Garrett in my outside my top 5.
Allen
Fournette
Hooker
Adams
Thomas
Watson
Garrett
Trubisky
Cook
Mixon
Go ahead, make fun of me. I don't mind.
The only problem with Thomas is that I don't think he is quite as exceptional as Allen, Adams or Fournette, the likely choices available to us at four.
But he would be a nice consolation prize for someone in the top ten.

I don't know that physically he is "elite." I wouldn't rate him in the Clowney type of prospect from a physical standpoint.
Nevertheless, he is a heckuva football player.

He's ELITE.
