Quote:Folks are reading too much into that. It was taken out of context. He didn't call us kindergartners. He summed up the fact that play-calling and creating a game plan is a lot more complicated than the fan base thinks or assumes it is and that it would be like a kindergartner trying to explain something to a college student who has done it for a living a lot longer than some of us have probably been alive and think running up the score on madden with the same three or four plays on offense is how you win actual football games. And he's right. We don't know. None of us do. I wasn't all that upset with the play calling. I was more upset with the failures to execute. Like I said in the other topics about this game. Was some of his passes off the mark? Sure. But did his receivers do him any favors in critical passing moments? Absolutely not. Obviously, the right plays were being called to see Hurns drop a critical 30+ yard pass, Greene to drop a pass that puts the ball inside the 5 yard line and Robinson to drop a pair of passes that were 20+ and potentially gave him space to eat up space with RAC had he made it. Gameplan stalls when you fail to execute. Nothing more, nothing less.
You and I are in complete agreement here.

Olson (and all of the NFL coaches, for that matter) have been in the league and in football generally for years.

They have scouted the players on their own teams, coached them during practice and watched film of each practice to see where the shortcomings are.

They have scouting reports on other teams which detail specific down and distance formation and playcalling tendencies dating back a season or more  They review 2-3 game films a week and identify strengths and weaknesses of the other teams and specific players.

They have to formulate plays and plans to not only attack the other teams' weaknesses, but try to minimize the weaknesses on their own roster.

It isn't uncommon for coaches to have 18-20 hour days doing this.

Fans don't have that experience or the time or the knowledge to call plays on a comparable level, as much as we love to think we do.  Fans don't put in that amount of time to come up with the decisions the coaches have to make.

The analogy was spot on and Blake Bortles need not apologize for it.
Fans might have been more right than wrong about this Jaguars organization over the past 10 years than the organization wouod have you believe.
Olson's playcalling/game planning compared to a bunch of whining fans....

Hmmmmm....

Yeah - I think Blake was about right.
i would have liked to see us be more aggressive after the Poz interception.  That was the only big gripe I had other than getting away from the run too much.  /Kindergartner out

I've made a similar analogy myself.  Eagles fans complaining about Chip Kelly's playcalls is like a homeless person trying to tell a Nuclear Physicist how to build an atom bomb.

So, what Bortles is saying in terms of football knowledge.  Jaguars fans are kindergartners.  Jaguar coaches/coordinators are college students. Coaches/coordinators with winning teams are college professors.

Wheres my playdoh at least...

Quote:you can do better?
better than a telegraphed throw across the field that the opponent takes for 6? Or a couple of fade routes well over the head of my receiver? Yeah.
A lot of posters with superior intelligence ITT. Let's all point and laugh at the plebs who are tired of seeing things not click with this team week in and week out year in and year out

You act as if not everyone here is tired of the team losing.

We all are tired of the team losing.
BB is right. On the other hand, if there were a rule to forbid fans from having an opinion then the stadium would be half-empty.

i like the part when he said if it was up to him he would just run all go's and adjust at the line haha.

I would certainly hope everyone is tired of losing.

The way I am acting is because I don't like people on these boards questioning the intelligence, fan loyalty, or the patience of the fans who are tired of it
Most of you on here act like it.

Like I stated in a different thread. He should not be throwing egg in the face of the fans. That's not a smart move. We have more problems then us be mad at the team.

We don't need the QB getting upset with fans because he failed to do well and win the game. We've been dealing with this crap for a very long time.

I don't think our QB is upset with fans.

He was asked by a reporter about fans being critical of play call. He gave a real honest truthful answer.

Most arm chair coaches and GMs don't really know what they are talking about.

Should he have said that? Probably not. But he said it, and I admire him for being so forthcoming with his thoughts on overly knee jerky critical fans.
Overreaction on this board (again).

But he is right, we are not NFL players, never play high level football.

He was just kidding, no big deal here.

He's not "throwing egg in the face of the fans", whatever that is supposed to mean.

And if you get mad at the team for this one comment, than you may have other issues
My questions to those upset or otherwise displeased with Bortles for his comments:

How exactly SHOULD he have explained that it was inaccurate/unfair to critique the play calling?

If he perceives/identifies disparities in knowledge and experience that creates the unfair criticism of play calling, how should he explain it?

We are legion and I'm not sure most fans even follow what he says.  My loyalty will surpass any current player on this team.  The players come, get injured and go but my support for even a crappy team goes on forever until it infects my kids to be the next generation.

I doubt most players [woops posters] on even this thread are so out of control on their reactions or over reactions.  I like discord and discussion.  When the boards break down too much, I don't post.  I don't plan on bash on anyone that has their opinion even if it is wrong in my view.

I love it. I agree with Blake, even if it came off differently than he wanted it to. I still think its an awesome comment.
