Quote:Kanell said all his coaches would have a stack of letters from fans telling them how to do their job. lol

however, he said this is something he would advise QBs to never say, because the fans will turn on him and use the comment against him.
Which is right, he better play great Sunday or the Bortles honeymoon will be over
Y'all are funny.

Is he becomes what most think, a solid or better Qb, are going to hold this against him?

Or will it become water under the bridge?

Argh!

Fake outrage1!11
If he keeps throwing pick 6s he will be booed louder than Gabbert ever was.
Quote:I would certainly hope everyone is tired of losing.

The way I am acting is because I don't like people on these boards questioning the intelligence, fan loyalty, or the patience of the fans who are tired of it

Intelligence of playcalling? I mean. It is hard to be intelligent about something unless you have experience doing it. Nothing wrong with criticizing, but I don't think anyone here has major offensive coordinator experience.

And I thought it was a stupid thing to say. Not because it offends me personally, but because it is a distraction.

I never questioned the intelligence of the play calling nor did I criticize it

Not doubt he set himself up with the comment.

a stadium full of fans (with a few brews in them) and a pick six will nOT be a good combination.

OTOH....win....and the place will erupt with an equal amount or greater of positive energy.

Please win Jags....

This is exactly where I stand.  I do not care about comments like this.  He is not my friend or a confidant, I don't care what he thinks about me as long as he plays well.

That being said, saying things like this, whether misconstrued or not, are always going to be a headache.  He is lucky he plays in Jax because this would of been the sports headline on the back page of the Post in NY, and he would have had to deal with it nonstop for days.

Some fans are just looking for something to be offended by.  This is as good as anything else.
I'm only offended by the offensive offense.

Quote:My questions to those upset or otherwise displeased with Bortles for his comments:

How exactly SHOULD he have explained that it was inaccurate/unfair to critique the play calling?

If he perceives/identifies disparities in knowledge and experience that creates the unfair criticism of play calling, how should he explain it?

Maybe something like, "fans are entitled to their opinion, but they have no way of knowing eveything that's going on behind each decision." There are many things he could have said that wouldn't alienate the fan base.

Including what he actually said.

If that alienates the fan base, we don't really deserve a team.

Maybe I misunderstood, but people are talking about intelligence that fans have when criticizing playcalling.

We are just in that type of society now. People want to complain and be offended. What he said is true. That doesn't matter though because reality is it is becoming a distraction.
Quote:You answered before my edit went into effect.

Let me ask you, what roles do the opponents players, play calling, weather, and luck have on offenses?

Well, if you're the Colts, Luck has a huge role.

Seriously though, when it comes to play calling I've heard it described as a cat and mouse game. I thought Oley was great this preseason at making the best calls at least until they got into the redzone. Overall I think he's a good playcaller, but I don't think it's unfair to question why we didn't stick with Yeldon when he was doing such a good job.

As for the loss week one, I blame the defense far more than the pick-six for allowing that huge drive. I looked back on why that happened and it was laregly the result of Cam taking off up the middle for short three-to-four yard runs time and time again. Throw in a few runs up the middle with each of their RBs and some mid-range passes, and they flat wore out the defense putting the game out of reach. I agree there was too much pointing at offensive play calling and I get his reasoning for saying it, but he really should know better.

Plus we usually need someone else to tell us what we need to be offended about.
Hey, until you stop playing like dog doo, you're gonna get criticised. Man up and get the hell better and quit worrying what people are saying.
The essence of this is fans know less than they think they do

Be you apologist or knee jerker I think we can all agree on that

Well, most of us can agree on that.  Then there are the twitchy Madden message board GM head coach coordinator wannabes.
Blake Bortles did a throw back Thursday on his Instagram to him in kindergarten!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry, that's hilarious.
