Quote:You can be pro wall and also pro immigration. There are legal ways to enter this country and become a citizen, many of us are just sick of the illegal variety that don't take that path. It paints all immigrants in a negative light and disrespects the struggles the legal immigrants made to become a legal citizen.

You're wasting your time. There's no reasoning with people with no common sense.

Quiet whitey.
Quote:That explains a lot about why you are so misguided.

All it explains that I'm able to do what 99% of the citizens of this country could not do because they don't have the patience, skill, or talent to do what I do. Advanced degrees in Hard sciences are not for the faint of heart. You couldn't walk in my shoes if you tried.

Terrible to see how you've been held back. Just awful.

It explains your political slant after 12+4+4 years of indoctrination.

Just out of curiosity what school has the privilege of your attendance?

I'll just say it's an SEC school. I can't put out all my business.

So no mentor approval or w/e? Seems like a lot of people get stuck with extra time in the PhD.

You planing to work in government or are you considering a medical school route (asking cause the majority of public health I know were really pre med).

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm a candidate, and I'm scheduled to finish in exactly 4 years in December.

No med school for me. I want to work as a US Public Health Commission Core Officer stationed in a lab that does pathogen research/sequencing....so FDA CDC USDA. They do a ton of great work. I would be so proud to serve my country if I get in.

Wonderful, good luck to you.

Thanks. We may disagree on many issues but I believe we both love our country and simply want what we feel is best, whatever that may be.

That will definitely qualify for the PSLF loan forgiveness, looks cool. Maybe you can work on Ebola, lol. Some PhD's have a mentor who has to approve your graduation or final project or whatever (I have deliberately avoided these programs so forgive my lack of knowledge on the terms). I had a Chemistry professor who said he was stuck 5 years waiting to get his PhD from UM, but he finally got his supervisor/mentor to release him by making the supervisors wife bother him.

There is a book I read many years ago, the name of which escapes me right now, about the CDC and how Ebola spreads and other diseases. It freaked me out. I wish I could remember the name. So, you want to work with that kind of stuff? The Hot Zone maybe? Something like that. Now I have to go see if I have it on Amazon.

The same technology can be used for good or evil.  I would encourage you to stay far away from any public health entity.

In our program, you present a proposal outlining your projects and then defend it. If approved, you become a candidate and are allowed to continue making progress until you have completed your dissertation. I'd hate to wait for approval....sounds like a crappy program. Best thing is your dissertation is simply what you publish. I'm not re-writing anything. I have about 5 papers lined up. One paper is finished and in the process of being submitted, the others are in prep. My professor is pretty chill. We're good friends. He has ideas, I have ideas and we just work to see them through. I wish I could share my work on here but I need to maintain some form of anonymity. Maybe one day. Yes, the USPHS have a nice loan forgiveness program if you qualify.

Are you still in school?

Anything can be used for good or evil. I prefer the good side.

I'm not really a viral guy although it's probably something I should learn. I work mostly with bacteria (profiling communities, pathogens, antibiotic resistance) and fungi. If you find the book let me know.
