Hypothetical Trade idea - Deshaun Watson
|
Watson led the league in total yards, yards per attempt, and yards per completion this year. He was basically top 5 in everything else. Lawrence could be really freaking good and likely never have a season as good as the one Watson just had. So much bias dear god.

Still only won 4 games though, which shows that stats can be way over blown/over rated at the end of the day.

So much bias dear god. lol, Blake Bortles had a year where he threw more TDs and almost as many yards with a trash oline and 3 2nd year WRs if we are just looking at numbers (01-08-2021, 10:45 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:(01-08-2021, 10:25 PM)Upper Wrote: Watson led the league in total yards, yards per attempt, and yards per completion this year. And Bortles rate stats in 2015 were exactly average. Watson's are elite. I'm definitely not arguing that his supporting cast was anything but awful.

I'm sorry but i would absolutely take a surefire top 5-10 QB over someone who hasn't played yet. But, it wont happen so it's irrelvant. We show less advertisements to registered users. Watsons been good, every year. not just this one.
If Watsons best year as a pro only netted the team 4 wins then I would rather take my shot with Lawrence. He's not elite, elite players elevate the team to top tear when they would otherwise be 4 win teams.
I would really challenge everyone to go and pull up Watsons split stats this year and Bortles from 2015 as they very similar.
Not even looking at the 4 wins this year but Watson couldn't get it done when they had the best WR in the league and an elite defense. Last year they were up by more than 20 in the playoffs and choked. Watson is like Russell Westbrook

I know Watson is a really good QB, definitely a top-10 QB, and I know Trevor Lawrence is unproven, and I know that TL definitely has a higher ceiling and a lower floor than DW, but I would not make that trade.
Trevor Lawrence represents a new beginning for this franchise. He will sell tickets. He will pull in fans. He'll pull in a lot of young fans. He will draw media coverage. He will sell jerseys. I think he had some influence on getting Lot J approved. Lot J might bring in enough extra revenue on game days to persuade Khan that he doesn't need to play in London. Plus, DeShaun Watson has a huge contract. He costs about $35 million a year. Joe Burrow signed a 4 year deal for a TOTAL of $36 million. With the difference in those two contracts, we could easily sign a premium free agent like Leonard Williams. So in a sense, you'd be trading Trevor Lawrence and Leonard Williams for Deshaun Watson. Plus, Watson is very unhappy right now. I like our division rival having a very important, very unhappy player. I don't want to relieve them of that problem.

Age + Talent they are 1a and 1b. So yes, I would bet my money on the guy i've seen play at a top 5 level over a college player who is hyped, not proven.(01-08-2021, 05:49 PM)ChrisJagBoy Wrote: I think some of you might be braindead lol no offense. And Doug Marrone is not that bad of a coach, when we had talent we went to the playoffs. I didn't say he was a great coach, but do you honestly think we would have gone to the AFCC game with Bradley or Mularkey?

Aside from you hearing that TLAW is a generational talent by the same people on TV who said Blaine Gabbert was a viable #1 overall pick in 2011, what leads you to believe he is so good? I'm not trying to sound like one of those people who act like they know everything, but i've watched every throw TLAW has made, he is not nearly as impressive as I was lead to believe he was. He got overly hyped for blowing out Alabama in his first season starting. He is a good prospect, don't get me wrong. He has the size/ability to be good, but nothing he's done in college leads me to believe he's about to out perform a top 5 QB like Watson. I'm a Jaguar fan first and foremost, but I am not dumb enough to think that Lawrence is going to come into the NFL and be anything Watson already has proven to be. And btw, all of this is pointless because the Texans would NEVER give us Watson anyways. Tell me how it was on Watson that they were fumbling kicks offs and having punts blocked?.. come on now.

Blake had ONE good year, and that's if you can accept 18 INTs as good. Watson in 4 years: 104 TD's 36 INTs Blake in 5 years: 103 TD's 75 INTs Also, Watsons rookie year he was injured for most of it, so let's say 3.5 years. Has more TD's in a season and 1/2 and more than half the picks. Not a good comparision. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
The Texans and the City of Houston would throw a parade if Jacksonville agreed to do this. This is like our Foles trade last year on steroids. Troll much or is this your first attempt?
A new broom always sweeps clean.
However:

No freaking way do I traded it for Deshawn Watson. I would trade our 2nd 1st round pick for him but not the 1st overall.

He's a smaller QB, with okay but not elite speed. (01-07-2021, 01:14 PM)imtheblkranger Wrote: I saw this on a AFCS FB page I follow. I'll stick with Trevor Lawrence. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Only the New York Jets would be so stupid to trade away Trevor Lawrence for Deshaun Watson.
