They are now a contender in the weak NFC South.

Why?  He wasn’t very good on a good team.  This guy is so overrated.

Didn't say he was good. But he's better than Darnold, who was abysmal. NFC South is weak below the top, and Carolina should be able to do some damage with Mayfield. They will compete for 2nd.

I don't see how those two statements correlate.

Steve Smith sounds thrilled.  LOL

So Mayfield isn't good and yet he will be the difference-maker for them and they will do some damage?

I think a healthy Mayfield CAN be a good QB. His issues have been a slew of different reasons from lack of talent around him esrly on, to his own poor decisions on the field and possibly attitude issues off the field, to injuries and playing injured.
Panthers have low risk high reward potential with this trade and Browns eating 10m of the salary.
Bakers last chance to prove he belongs in the NFL as a starter.
Not sure it moves the needle for the NFCS much. Still Bucs division to win. But suppose a healthy Baker and CMC along with a young budding defense in Carolina could surprise and challengethe Saints for 2nd and a WC shot.

Yeah, re-looking at the statement, you are right, it looks wrong. Average might have been a better word. Like school grades. A+ is great, B is good, C is average, below C is bad to awful. He's still better than Darnold tho, and the division aside from the Bucs is weak. They still have CMC, assuming he can stay healthy. I don't think 2nd for them is out of the realm of possibility. It might be an average second, but still second.

AND they still are paying most of his contract. Just pants-on-head stupid.

Browns fans should be the ones showing up in greasepaint calling for their GM's head on a platter once the games begin.

I can see them competing with ATL for the divisional cellar, but they are more than a middling QB away from postseason contention.

Gonna go out on a limb and say the Panthers beat Browns week 1 as long as CMC is healthy.

If Jacoby Brisett is the QB for the Browns week 1, that's not going out on a limb.

I don’t know what Bill was thinking with this pick.

As far as Mayfield goes, Skip Bayless needs to stop with the “but he was injured.” Once teams figured out his weaknesses they exposed him.

JJ Watt is an awesome guy.

“NFL star J.J. Watt offers to cover the cost of funeral after woman tweets about selling shoes to raise money”

He did a ton around Houston after the hurricanes as well. Sure glad we took gabbert ahead of him lol. I know he is a ex tinhorn and was a absolute nightmare to our qbs for a long time but it is really hard to not like the guy. Seriously good dude.
