Sounds like A Logan Act violation. This needs to lead to another felony charge.
I don't know how you came to that conclusion. The logan act is to prevent private citizens from negotiating with a foreign government that the United States is in dispute with. We are not in that status with Ukraine.

He is a private citizen and does not have any business discussing foreign policy with the leaders of other countries. 18 U.S. Code § 953 - Private correspondence with foreign governments Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

I think they were discussing weddings and yoga. ![]()
It says it right in what you posted.
"with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both." So in your enlightened opinion, what dispute or controversies are we currently involved with Ukraine? For example, when John Kerry had talks with Iran that was a violation because we have disputes with them. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Rainbows and unicorns? And John Kerry has nothing to do with Trump breaking the law. Logan Act, legislation enacted by the United States Congress (1799) that forbids private citizens from engaging in unauthorized correspondence with foreign governments. A Logan act violation would be hard to prosecute. But the case against Kerry would definitely be stronger than a case against Trump, based on what we know now.

Why is it so hard to read? https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/960 It doesn't require enemies, it requires "a dispute", which could be as simple as trade negotiations in theory. If there is any kind of situation where the US Government is on one side and another government is on the other, you can't intervene as a private citizen. It has nothing to do with direct work with foreign governments. If you want to sell pizza to North Korea, you can do that. You just can't do it on behalf of the US Government, nor can you do it if there's an ongoing pizza dispute between the countries. Again, it means you can't intervene in disputes between the US and other governments. You can go get a job in Russia or France or Iran tomorrow. You can do business with them and not violate the Logan Act. Glad I was able to help.
