Your Hopes for Day 2 of the Draft
Posted by: I am Yoda - 04-26-2024, 05:07 PM - Replies (3)

I’m hoping for 3 real contributors on Day 2. Give me a CB and 2 IOL. Baalke will have to package some picks to move us up to the 30s and the 60s to get us what we really want and need, I think.

OLINE, OLINE, and more OLINE!

Round 2 starts at 7PM.

I’d like to see a Dlineman in these next 2 rounds.

Welcome Brian Thomas Jr. Jags new star receiver

He ran a 4.3, soft hands, silky smooth route running. He may be an upgrade from Ridley. Plus picking up extra picks.

Baalke deserves credit tonight.

My Grade :. A

I hope he and Trevor have instant chemistry. Stay tuned!

  Draft Day Surprises Thread
Posted by: flsprtsgod - 04-25-2024, 12:15 PM - Replies (1)

What will we see in the next three days that's totally off the wall unexpected?

I think we see the top 6 receivers all go in round 1:

MHJ
Odunze
Nabers
BTJ
AD
Worthy

I also think we see JPJ slide to tomorrow and the Jaguars take a kicker on day 3 (Will Reichard comes to mind).

Edit: Thinking about it, we could possible see 7 receivers in round 1 if someone takes a shine to Troy Franklin.

30th Anniversary | Best Picks in Jaguars History, *added bonus
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 04-24-2024, 02:58 PM - Replies (5)

On the eve of the 30th Jaguars draft class, here are the best draft picks in franchise history, in tiers.

C Tier:
Brad Meester, Maurice Williams, Travis Etienne, Yannick Ngakoue, Greg Jones, Brandon Linder, Vince Manuwai, Marcedes Lewis, Myles Jack

B Tier:
Aaron Beasley, Telvin Smith, Donovin Darius, John Henderson, Kevin Hardy, Daryl Smith, Anton Harrison, Travis Etienne, Tyson Campbell

A Tier:
Marcus Stroud, Tony Brackens, Rashean Mathis, Trevor Lawrence

S Tier: Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, Josh Allen, Maurice Jones-Drew, Jalen Ramsey

*The Best Draft Pick By Round:

Best 7th rounder - DE Bobby McCray: 22 sacks in 4 seasons and played on 2 playoff teams.

Best 6th rounder - QB Gardner Minshew: started 20 games at QB and won 7. Minshew threw 37 TD passes in a Jaguars uniform. Dude made the Pro Bowl last season with Indy.

Best 5th rounder -LB Telvin Smith: played 5 seasons and was quickly named a team captain. Made a Pro Bowl. 587 combined tackles, 52 TFL, 7.5 Sacks, 9 int, 6 FR, 5 FF, and is tied with Aaron Beasley for the most returned touchdowns in team history.

Best 4th rounder - David Garrard: Finished with 106 total touchdowns, with 89 passing and 17 rushing. The 17 rushing TD still stands today as the franchise record for a QB. Made a Pro Bowl. Took the 2007 Jaguars to the playoffs and should’ve been the starter in the 2005 playoffs.

Best 3rd rounder - Yannick Ngakoue: played 4 seasons and finished with 37.5 sacks, 42 TFL 2 int and never registered less than 8 sacks in his 9 year career except last year where he posted 4 sacks with Chicago. In a Jaguars uniform he led the NFL in forced fumbles in 2017 and finished in Jacksonville with 14 forced fumbles.

Best 2nd rounder - Maurice Jones-Drew: Made 3 Pro Bowls and 1 All Pro. 2nd leading rusher in franchise history behind Fred Taylor. Jones-Drew is still the team’s all-time leader in touchdowns with 81. He finished his Jaguars career with 8,071 yards rushing, 2,873 yards receiving and 2,187 return yards.

Best 1st rounder - Tony Boselli: Made 5 Pro Bowls and 3 All Pros. Selected to the 1990’s All Decade Team and played on 4 straight playoff teams and was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  Other NFL teams new uniforms
Posted by: mikesez - 04-24-2024, 01:21 PM - Replies (8)

All new uniforms have been revealed for the Texans and Broncos.  The Jets are going to wear their throwbacks as their main uniform for the next five years, except the helmet is going to be metallic instead of gloss, the Lions made minor changes to their regulars and big changes to their alternates, while the Browns just changed their facemask color.

Anything you liked? Anything you hated?

I think the Broncos got an upgrade, never liked that underarm swoosh thing.

The Texans look like garbage, especially that metallic red helmet. But the alternate "H-town" set is in a "so bad it's good" kind of zone and I can't wait to see it on the field.

The Jets should have thrown back to their 1998 to 2018 look, which was very similar to their AFL look that they won a super bowl with. Metallic helmets are a downgrade.

  2nd Tier D-linemen
Posted by: flsprtsgod - 04-23-2024, 01:44 PM - Replies (14)

Following up on yesterday's CB thread, this one is the same idea but with defensive linemen, both Edge (E) and Interior (I). According to PFF's Big Board, the following linemen rank around the Jags' picks at 48 through 114. Which one and in what round makes sense for this team?

38 - Adisa Isaac, E
40 - Chop Robinson, E
44 - Braden Fiske, I
50 - Kris Jenkins, I
55 - Jonah Elliss, E
58 - Chris Braswell, E
61 - Darius Robinson, E
63 - Marshawn Kneeland, E
65 - Brandon Dorlus, I
67 - Ruke Orhorhoro, I
83 - Xavier Thomas, E
86 - Jalyx Hunt, E
88 - Austin Booker, E
91 - Javon Solomon, E
98 - Bralon Trice, E
107 - Michael Hall, Jr., I
115 - Brennan Jackson, E
122 - T'Vondre Sweat, I
131 - Mekhi Wingo, I

The exercise is to choose one of these with the pick around where they are ranked and make the case for why that's the 1 guy this team should take.

My pick from this group is T'Vondre Sweat at 96 in the 3rd round. He's fallen a bit because of a recent misdemeanor DWI issue but that likely will be resolved before the summer. In his college career he earned Big 12 DPOY and the Outland Trophy in 2023 as the best interior lineman in college football. Physically he's a mountain of a man at almost 6'5" and 366 lbs. On the field he logged 25 tackles. 13 assists, 23 hurries, and a couple of sacks for the Texas defense. He translates to a 0 Tech Nose Tackle in the NFL because he ain't fast, but you can't get around him either. I think he's the prototype of what this team lacks on the defensive line and plugging him in will immediately stop them from being gashed by the run. He's likely there in the 3rd but might still be there Saturday at 114.

  2nd Tier Corners
Posted by: flsprtsgod - 04-22-2024, 03:36 PM - Replies (21)

Taking a look at PFF's Big Board, the following are between the Jags' picks at 48 and 114.

46 - Ennis Rakestraw, Jr.
51 - T.J. Tampa
56 - Kamari Lassiter
64 - Andru Phillips
72 - Max Melton
87 - Kyree Jackson
89 - Renardo Green
110 - Caelen Carson
113 - Jarrian Jones

The goal of this exercise is to examine the second tier of CBs in this draft and choose which one you would take on Day 2 or 3 provided they don't take a guy at 17. Most of these can be a reasonable selection, I'm interested to hear persuasive cases on why one of them would be the best for this team.

My guy is T.J. Tampa at #48. If he's there then he's the outside man cover guy we need for the coming season. A big specimen at 6'2" and about 200 lbs, he's got long arms and good hips for a taller guy. He can turn and run well, a little struggle with quick change of direction guys because of his height. Physical tackler who plays the ball in the air much better than Tyson Campbell. Had 2 picks and only gave up 1 TD last year, he was around 50% completion when thrown against. I think he's a great value in the second round for a guy who really fits the new system.
