Quote:So they draft a guy to help give the ball back to a terrible offense? I don't think it was the right pick. The QB was on the ground all last season. You can't throw the ball when your face is in the turf.

Booooo Dave Caldwell

Perhaps you've heard they picked up two free agents that play on the offensive line?
Quote:Anyone see Fowler's highlights espn ran after we drafted him? He looked like a man among boys, and he made plays all over the line. The dude is gonna be a pro bowl player for us. I like the pick.

I'm glad we didn't go WR, our offense stunk because of a lot of things. Mostly the lack of pass protection, and an oc that couldn't get the best out of our personnel.

This was a good pick!

Great point. I like the pick the more and more I think about it.

Listen to what I tell you, Ameer Abdullah in round 2.
Quote:My point is I don't see Fowler becoming the impact player that Watt is...I just don't see it...I see an 8 sack a year guy in Fowler...but I really hope I am wrong...I hope he comes in and blows up with 12 - 15 sacks as a rookie and only gets better from there.
Watt is a once in a generation type player. You can't compare him to Fowler.

Justin Houston is who people are comparing him to.
Quote:I am on board with the pick. However the name calling is childish at best. Are you going to denie the 2 sacks that were horse collar tackles? Or is a DE allowed to sack a player at the neck? It is easy to bash. But video don't lie.

What is a denie?

I don't think he was considered that during his draft.
Quote:I don't think he was considered that during his draft.

Definitely not. That's why these "we passed on Watt to take Gabbert" comments crack me up. Watt was a good college player and considered a high-motor guy but if anybody says they saw his NFL production coming, they're not telling the truth.

So you think Fowler will be a 3x probowler and be leading the league in sacks by his 4th year?  Let's not forget Houston was also drafted 70th overall...not 3rd...and prior to last year year averaged less than 10 sacks a year...but forget the outlieing years of 2014 and his rookie year...and he is a 10 sack guy...which is great for a 3rd rounder...but is eh for the number 3 overall pick.

At the end of the day this is just my opinion and I really REALLY hope I am wrong...I hope he blows up his rookie year and is a force from day one...

A 10 sack a year guy at the number 3 pick is just eh now?  Lol....seriously?

Too many of our fans wish for bad things to happen.
Quote:Well, naturally you'll have improvements from Bortles, Robinson, Lee, Hurns, Linder. We then added a pro-bowl caliber/mismatch at TE in Julius Thomas. We beefed up the OL with Pernell and Wiz. That's how you improve the 32nd ranked offense. Still 6 picks left, btw.

My head hurts from all of the commonsense in this post. Too. Much. To. Handle.

Seriously you hit the nail on the head. The offense was weak only because of all the rookies that were starting. I would be looking for a serious step forward this year, especially on the Oline. I bet our running backs wont be so bad this year.
These have to be some of the most mentally weak people on the planet.

If you dont think Fowler is a good player you obviously have never watched the guy play.
Quote:Failure. The guy lucks into a few plays and somehow hes the 3rd pick in the draft. He has measurables virtually identical to Andre Branch, and had less sacks, despite being gifted 2 or 3 on plays where he was completely unblocked due to scheme errors by the offense. (Not to mention the plays he was unblocked and still didn't make the play.) This guy, the "best pass rusher in the draft" had 8.5 sacks, and as I said many of those were largely based on luck. Williams, a 300lb DT/DE had 7 and he wasn't even a pass rush guy, playing mostly inside. Has anyone watched Fowler actually play? Am I taking crazy pills? He gets blocked 5 yards downfield by TIGHT ENDS. Once a lineman touches him the play is over. This is a pathetic top 3 pick.
Yeah, but Gus likes his "motor" and Dave likes his "fashion sense".

I don't get to watch football on Saturdays, so I'm not familiar with the guy you named. What position does he play?

I'm clearly in the minority of this thread, but to me the only positron on offense I think would be ok to target on Friday would be oline...

I get that our offense was bad, but I'd rather see us go LB or FS today... maybe even get a DT today
Quote:I think he will get stronger and slower. He will probably be in the 275 range in his prime years, and yes he will be significantly stronger.

It is exceedingly rare for a player to improve movement skills after they enter the league (not including technique efficiency and stuff obviously). It happened for someone like Leveon Bell, but he underwent a significant body change that included dropping a lot of weight. I'd be shocked if it happened with Fowler, especially because he will most likely be adding ~15 lbs in the next couple years.
I think read a tweet that Gus and Caldwell wants Fowler to play in the 250-255 range. Shedding weight should only help him get faster.
Quote:It's like people forget we had 3 rookie WR who all in their own ways flashed and excelled. We added Thomas. Dave has already said in his PC we will likely go 2 WR 2 TE in a lot of our sets with Lewis and Thomas ala the Pats with Gronk and that guy who killed someone.

I think people forget that there are 6 rounds left. If Caldwell wants his slot guy there will be plenty available in a WR class that's just as deep as last year's.

I don't know... I think we are pretty set at wr... I think there are other areas we should focus on...
This is why i don't get myself physiqued over certain players during the draft. All it does is set you up for disappointment at the end of the night. Hilarious really. Caldwell is a needs drafter, he got one of the best players availble in the draft and also solidified a huge need.

1. The debate was should we take the best player in the draft in Leonard Williams? But we signed Odrick, so it made sense to pass

2. Cooper is the only one you can make a case for who could of been selected besides Fowler, and it seems it WAS down to those two.

3. Fowler is the second best defensive player in this draft behind Leonard Williams. Versatile and is a pass rusher, where as Vic Beasley is one dimensional.

Made sense why they took Fowler. Really, this guy is probably the 3rd or 4th best player on the draft board last night.

I agree. I'm sure we are going to focus on other areas. Im thinking it won't be until day 3 if we start looking at wideouts.
Oh the hand wringing is awesome.

Anyone who seriously thought we'd take any position other than pass rusher was buying media hype and smokescreens.

I figured it was Fowler or Williams.... with edge rusher being a bigger need Fowler really shouldn't have surprised anyone.

When he hits double digit sacks as a rookie I wonder how many of you will change your tune...

or just switch to crying about something else Dave did you didn't want him to do.

Guys like Yo Boy are not real fans. They just want what they want and if they don't do what they want they complain. You have no control over what the team does and your not working for the Jaguars for a reason. Sit down.

actually, and Caldwell kinda said this in his interview last night, it came down between Amari Cooper and Dante Fowler, but Fowler was a bigger need so they took him.
