Quote:One thing to keep in mind, Telvin and Fowler on the same side. That's two speed players with non-stop motors and with violent intentions.
My first thought after we drafted Fowler...
Smith and Fowler is some crazy speed!
I think Williams was overhyped by fans and the media. I think he's going to be a great player, but I don't think he was necessarily the best player available.
I'm not sure Amari Cooper will be the player everyone expects him to be. I think he'll probably be a very solid #1 WR. And yeah, we needed that. But we've still got time to draft another WR. Or maybe we don't get our #1 WR until next year.
A lot of people are overreacting because Derrick Harvey. That's a major logical fallacy. I think Fowler has an opportunity to do well.
We needed Fowler and we obviously need him to be our Von Miller/Justin Houston type of guy. The sacks and hurries NEED to increase. It will lead to more mistakes from the QB and get those interception numbers up.
IF, and that's a major if, Fowler turns into that guy for us, our defense is going to be nasty. Love the pick!
Let's go Dante!

I don't really think there was an overhype in Leonard. If anything, leading to the draft he became underrated. I mean, we started hearing stuff like he had no pass rush skills. For a 3T/5T to get 7 sacks? Yeah the kid can rush. Probably even moreso if you unleash him.
Cooper is the one that scares me a bit. I really think he's going to be very good. Pro Bowl? Maybe, maybe not. But if he's catching 8-10 TDs a year and Bortles is over here not developing as we hope because Arob and Lee can't carry the passing game...boy we are going to be catching heat on this pick regardless of what Fowler does.
AS for the Harvey talk...only people who didn't watch Fowler use the Harvey comparisons. The two are nothing alike. If Fowler fails, its because he wasn't good enough...not because he was a Harvey clone.
I sincerely hope Fowler is a stud in this Defense. We need more impact players on D. A guy taken this high will be measured and judged by the number of sacks he gets, which might not be completely fair. Other guys like Dupree and Beasley may be in more sack-friendly situations and won't be 3-down players.

<p style="color:rgb(41,47,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Jaguars loved Vic Beasley and his speed off the edge, but felt like he took plays off. Not Fowler. Played hard every game, every down

I like Fowler's size better, too. He's a nightmare with his quickness and speed at 260-265. I think he will be a lot like Joey Porter.
Quote:Don't be scared. He's the most talented defensive player in the draft. Never thought I'd say that about a Florida defensive end but there you go.
Mike Mayock and Greg Cosell both love Fowler...not two better opinions in my mind.
Quote:Beasley had two problems. One, he didn't play the run. At all. And two, he took plays off. They played several videos last night to show how he tended to stand around on running plays. Yes, he rushes the passer really well, but that's not the only thing a front 7 player has to do.
But from everything I hear, Fowler never takes plays off.
Fowler is a 3 down player. Beasley is a specialty pass rusher.
I can appreciate all of that. ^
I think there's a bit much being made of Fowler "never taking plays off" however. It's a tough thing to evaluate - but I didn't really see non-stop motor on the three cut-ups I watched.
Quote:I love jag fans no matter what our GM does he's a genius. Half the posters on this board in Gene Smith first draft
We're calling him a genius, remind me how that worked out. I just want someone to explain to me for a team that averaged
15.6 ppg were is the offense going to come from. Who does the defense fear on the outside? Also
When A-Rob or M.lee goes down with a injury who's going to replace them the Hall of Famer
Tanden Doss? Let's all give a Bronx Cheer to Dave Caldwell because 7 wins in 2 years shows
How great a GM he really is. Remind me how many wins did Gene have in his first 2 years?
I think you'll see skill positions and offense addressed in the next two picks.
Quote:Limited athletically??? Are we watching the same player?
He's not watching a player, he's looking at a spider chart.
Quote:I think read a tweet that Gus and Caldwell wants Fowler to play in the 250-255 range. Shedding weight should only help him get faster.
I didn't see that so it's possible, but Dave said in his press conference that he liked that Fowler was a big LEO...because the smaller LEO's in the 240-250 range had to come off the field on early downs.
That would certainly imply that they see Fowler as being quite a bit heavier than that range.
So where's Yo Boy and his sidekick Jaxjagman2?
Let's liven this party up!!
I heard a rumor about him getting down to around 255 playing weight. If so, we got the sideline to sideline covered with Smith and Fowler.

Im with you.
There just guys
They're*..... Also people are forgetting that all those guys were rookies last year...including the guy throwing them the ball...give them another year...
My biggest issue with Fowler is strength. He lacks the strength to win 1 on 1 matchups in the NFL. All of his production came either by scheme or by dominating players like East Carolina's right tackle.
If Fowler hits the weight room, he has a chance to be special, but until he does, in my opinion, he's a scheme only player.

i dont think he has strength concerns.... not in terms of playing strength anyway. maybe he doesnt put up as many reps in the weight room, but fowler is one of, if not the pass rusher i have the most faith in to be able to win 1 on 1 in the NFL.
guys like gregory and beasley get stonewalled. fowler moves players.
C'mon guys, you all can't compare Fowler to Von Miller or Justin Houston. It's just not fair. They are both 90+ percentile athletes. Fowler is a 40th percentile athlete. Even Kerrigan is a 60th percentile athlete.
And don't even get started on trying to compare Watt's college production. Couldn't be more night and day circumstances there. Not to mention Watt is an unheard of 5 (!!!) standard deviations from the average DE athlete. That is 99.999999% percentile, yes 6 9s. The next Watt should mathematically come along in around 300 years.

Everyone gets stonewalled. JJ Watt gets stonewalled.
Beasley and Gregory win matchups against good players. Fowler rarely does. He sets the edge well in the run game sideline to sideline, but once a decent tackle gets into his pads, he's done. The problem is that you rarely win the 1v1 matchups unless you can get the tackles off balance, and Fowler lacks the power to move a tackle in a straight up matchup. Watch La'el Collins and Cam Robinson run him over.
Good player - he just needs the weight room badly. He's young and his body has already improved massively since he walked onto campus, but its something he really needs to continue working on and at a greater pace.
