Quote:He really doesn't. Which is why Khan hasn't been willing to give an expected number of wins; because it's about more than the number of wins. The team could easily finish 5-11 and be better than an equivalent team finishing 7-9. Or, if you want to be negative about things or think this is an apologist view, the team could easily finish 7-9 but be considerably worse than an equivalent 5-11 team.
Yea but that's not what counts! Your job as a coach is to win games and coach player to there max potential. If we don't see the RESULT of that, then everything else doesn't matter!! And the result should be winning!
The first two years that "we may be better than our record indicates" may fly.
It's year 3. Win or go home (or get fired).

lol You are what your record says you are. Parcells famous quote.
It's really not difficult. If he doesn't win games, he won't be coaching this team for long. This is the NFL. Its the biggest sport in America by a wide margin. Win at all costs because it has been and always will be about winning.

If you fire everyone based on the sort of metrics you're looking at, the result will
not be winning. Though at the end of the day I don't need to convince you of that; it's evident that the owner of the team already understands it, which is the only thing that counts.
What if I don't have any excuses and we still lose? Or is this a pitchforks-or-nothing kind of thread?

Yea that's true!! But i believe that all depends on time also.. Every owner and every team have different measures of time and patience when it comes to that situation.

This is the crux of the matter, IMO.
IF Bradley's Jags fall under 6 or 7 wins this season -- has Khan's patience been stretched to it's breaking point?
I have no idea. I know mine will be severely frayed.

Bingo.
Everyone knew these last 2 years were going to reaaaaaallly tough. This year will be very very telling.

Lol agreed mines too..
We must have Full Consistency immediately.

Anybody who thinks Bradley and this regime will get another chance if we lose 10 games this year is simply crazy.
Go 6-10 and you're fired. Just watch.
I'm one to remember the job that Caldwell and Bradley took then they came to this team. I said at that time and I'll say it again, I don't think those two would have come here without the guarantee that they would have ample enough time to rebuild this roster and install the culture they want to. Just 2 years ago Jacksonville was on the verge of becoming a wasteland in the football world. We became the butt of all football related jokes.
The the past two year, these two have changed the perception of the team on the field and Khan off the field. I haven't seen a player of Thomas' caliber consider Jacksonville as a destination since the Rison acquisition in the Coughlin years.
With all that said I think we at minimum should let the process play out. I think constant progression should be the measurement. The first year we got blown out every game. Year two we started actually competing most game. This year expect to see more wins. 6 to me would be the minimum. But if they don't get that number then I revert to let the process play out and give them their last year. This team was in way worse condition when they took over. They at minimum have laid the foundation for the next guy to come in and succeed with and for that I feel they should get the chance to let their contracts play out.
Dude, the perception of the jags on the field is literally as bad as it's ever been to the casual NFL fan or NFL player.
We got thomas because we had money and we paid him. Simple as that.
Not talking about the casual fan. The casual fan still thinks Detroit isn't a good team. To people who watch football they are respecting the process Caldwell and Bradley are going through. To be honest Dukes was the first talking head I heard in a while talking down about the Jaguars drafts and free agent pick ups.
Quote:Pretty pointless article. I'm sure everyone that gives a flip about the Jags realizes that in year 3 of a new regime everyone under the sun expects strides to be made. ... And everyone is sick of losing. ....And seats will get hot with another 4 or 5 win record. Blah,blah,blah....
Using the 'ol "excuses" angle and attaching a number-of-wins-ultimatum?
- all that does is make Frenette sound like one of our many resident petulant-schoolgirl whiners on the board.
'whining about whiners'... classic.

I wasn't whining, but, thanks. I'm glad you consider the post "classic." Sounds very distinguished.

This team has reached full consistency.
They are consistently terrible.
How about this team start off 5-3 instead of 0-8 for a change. That would be nice.

I watch football. In fact, I follow every single thing this team does.
I'm not convinced we're significantly better than we were a few years ago. Different yes, better? Not yet. We're still a laughinstock.
Remember being down 30-0 at the half at our home season opener?
Starting something like 0-8 for 2 straight years?
I could go on.
It's all fluff right now. The culture is different, sure - that's what we say and that's what we think. If we start 0-4 people are going to get sick of the rah-rah stuff and the "we believe in victory" crap.

It's almost as if you are just arguing to argue lol. I don't think anything in your post even responds to my mine. I really never said we are better although I feel this team is headed in the right direction. I feel the foundation is being laid. I'm with all the get better stuff. I even stated I think the expectation should be 6 wins at minimum. I just know this team was in a free fall prior to these two coming here. Have we gotten back to the top? No, but I do feel that they have stopped the bleeding and at least placed us in a stable situation.
Obviously wins need to come but I think we have to use perspective. All I'm saying is let them at least finish their contracts. I don't think that is an unreasonable request. If they can't get this team in playoff contention in 2016 then cut them lose and start over with the next regime. I just don't care for the idea of fans "running the franchise" though. The fans would have had us drafting Manziel last year.
There are a few good things going on. Hopefully we will/have acquired enough talent this off-season to get to that 7-9 win mark.

I don't think anyone with even a remote clue would argue that the expectations this year are that the team has to show marked improvement, and that wins and losses are going to matter. They have to. Even Shad Khan is not going to sit on his hands if we see more of the same as what we've seen over the past couple of seasons, especially with the losing streaks to begin the year.
The first season, everyone expected the team to struggle. They'd just gutted the roster. The second year, most with a clue figured the team would struggle as they put together a very young, inexperienced roster. To think it was going to be a team any better than it was taking that approach was pure delusion on those who set the expectations any higher than what we ultimately wound up with.
Year 3 should mark the beginning of that significant improvement. Caldwell has said more than once that once the team starts to show improvement, it's going to happen very quickly. It'll be difficult to miss. With free agency and another draft, the team should be able to adequately address most of the roster issues and start to show the kind of improvement that leads not just to moral victories, but actual wins on the field. If it doesn't, I don't think the organization will remain with the status quo for 2016. Khan is being tremendously patient. That won't last forever.
