Expecting rational thought on this board is almost as foolish as getting involved in a land war in Asia.

Blah blah blah! Excuse after excuse! You should pop the [BLEEP] out the boys mouth and stop babying him. One of my favorite movie lines.. Nobody not arguing the fact that this team is young or had many pro-bowlers. That's understood. Whats going to be the excuse this year?? I can see it now "the jags gotta new OC its gonna take Bortles time to develop"! Thats what you guys gonna be crying next season huh?Stop with the excuses!! Been hearing them since the Gene Smith era!!
Quote:You are not taking into consideration that those teams did not nearly completely blow up their roster and refill it with mostly rookies and UDFA either...HUGE difference between what those teams did and what the Jags did...
Eagles got a new coach and went thru 2 starting qbs already.. They completely gutted most of the old regime players even more this year.

You're clueless. Seriously. You're absolutely clueless.
I'll say this, the top teams who are constantly competing didn't get there over night. Lynch has been with Seattle for a while, Clay Matthews is on a second contract in Green Bay, Megatron has been catching TD's for a while in Detroit. It takes a while to accumulate the collection of talent for the foundation to compete. That's the process we are in now.

Do they need to win to justify what they are doing is correct... Yes, but that expectation IMO starts this year. 6-7 wins is what I think they need.

Nobody is arguing that. Nobody. This team absolutely needs to double their win total this season. If they don't, thats not "getting better". What Yo Boy is failing to realize is, we agree with his assumption of getting more wins and no more excuses. Its year 3, some production absolutely needs to happen. But because I'm not going to put unrealistic expectations on the season, according to him, "I'm used to losing". If it was up to Yo Boy, the entire thing would get burnt down again next season if we were not in the playoffs. Running a business....errrrr.....NFL organization is not as easy as the casual fan thinks it is. Its easy to express your opinion behind your computer, or at the stadium with a beer in your hand and your gut hanging out. But theres a reason only one team wins a Super Bowl. Not everybody gets that chance. If you want a stable franchise, what they are doing right now, is how you build it. Draft, develop, use FA as a tool to replenish or fill any needs, contracts that are team friendly ect. Everything Caldwell and khan are doing is absolutely the right way to go about it. And if they can get the right pieces, this team can be a perennial playoff contender.

I think ill take the patient approach and let THIS SEASON play out before call for any personnel changes. I don't need Yo Boy and Gene "Sparky and Ladies Softball" Frennete to tell me theres No More Excuses.
Sounds like a bunch of excuses in here.
Quote:You don't understand the argument that record is not the ultimate indicator of how good a team is and whether they're trending up or down. You don't understand that teams can (and do) overperform and underperform. You don't understand that a team that lucks its way to 7 wins can be worse than a team that was unlucky to win 5 and would be the better team to back the following year - and that therefore setting hard win targets is a ridiculously simplistic approach, and that this is why our team's owner is unwilling to do that.

And you think I'm the one lacking in cognitive ability?

<shrug>
This is what I understand... A great football coach (Bill Parcell)... one with far more knowledge of the game than you or I, said this; "you are what your record says you are". The record is the one and only verifiable indicator of whether a team is trending up or down! Anything else is just a rationalization. As far as luck goes, something I've noticed about it is that 'luck tends to favor the prepared', that's not just true in sports but in life in general.

Finally... unless you are Shad Khan's personal 'confidant' then you don't actually know if Khan has set a hard bottom line for the season. All any of us know is that he hasn't done so publicly; so your 'argument' is based entirely on presumption.

and in what span of time...not to mention they DID NOT gut the roster to the extent the Jags did, start 8 rookies on offense including the QB...They got rid of some key players yeah, but not anything close to what the Jags did

Quote:Its because fans are irrational and expect everything given to them, kinda a trend now in this country. "I WANT IT NOW" "GIMME GIMME GIMME", "WHY DO WE SUCKS" "FIRE EVERYBODY". Theres no rational anymore. Its just results or nothing else. Any reasonable fan would understand why the Jaguars have sucked so bad the past few years, yes its been painful, yea it sucked, but the jags completely have changed their identity since 2012. Everything is different. They tore down the team and even the foundation. It was going to take a few years to get back up to speed. And i believe our future is brighter than other franchises.

There was a tweet not too long ago that stated that teams were contacting the Jaguars on how to run their franchises like theirs! Teams are literally asking our team for advice because of how good this regime and owner are running the show.
They do have to eventually prove it on the field, but I think that's going to start becoming evident this year.  This is a young team that gained a ton of good experience over the past couple of seasons.  Now we'll see if the approach this regime took in rebuilding by blowing it up and building extensively through the draft will pay off.  I tend to think it will, especially when you recognize that they can use free agency this year to really augment the roster.  They've done so with the acquisitions so far, and I would expect to see more activity as the off season progresses.

They didn't gut the roster at all until this off season as Kelly now wants to show the world what a personnel genius he is.  He inherited a very good Eagles team when he took over for Reid.  There were a couple of pieces that needed to be addressed, but they had enough talent on that roster to be extremely competitive in their division.  I think they're going to hit a wall this year.  We'll see.

Any time you post, I picture someone who walks around all day in a helmet to avoid head injuries.  Your posts come off as childish, completely lacking any substance, and quite frankly, like someone who is just throwing crap they pulled out of their adult diaper at a wall just to get attention.

Let me know if I got anything wrong here.

Anyone who looks at facts and calls them excuses has the mental capacity of an old shoe.

That's exactly what I was getting at...The post I quoted was trying to make it sound as if the egurls were horrible when chip kelly took over and now they are great

You should know to never make a deal with a Sicilian when death is on the line...

On another note:

I didn't even read this thread, but its already my favorite categories. Mods wetting their pants getting angry while trying to defend every move the team ever made (with their respective lemmings), Crazy tin foil hatters demanding FULL CONSISTENCY now. And the team completely not caring about either side and continuing its annual march towards perhaps not mediocrity, but probably still mediocre at best. This is what the Jags fans live for in the dead zone (i.e. the time between when we last had a contender and the next time we are actually good).

I found your statements amusing. Sounds like you mad? Can you quote me where i said" we have to blow up this thing unless we were in the playoffs"? I just want the team to win and yes i hope for the playoffs! I would like the team to go at least 8-8. But thats my opinion! So calm down, because im not arguing the fact that good teams build through the draft. I agree with that.. Just saying jags are crossing all the bridges of excuses.

I don't wanna start naming a bunch of players to validate my statement, but since hes been there hes gotten rid of Vick,Fowles, thats 2 qbs!Mccoy, and Jackson!! Thats 2 impact players! Do i need to go on??

Anyone who blindly validate excuses as fact, is either one not in touch with reality or two just plain stupid!

that's not nearly a blowup of the roster and refilling it with rookies...it's not even close to what the Jags did
