This season... Wins and losses will be the only thing that matters. If you don't win in this league, you won't be a head coach. Pretty simple.

This is the year that we are supposed to start earning dividends on our investments.

Even poorly run teams can be competitive in this league. It will be hard to make the case to maintain status quo even with a competitive loosing team.

Quote:You don't understand the argument that record is not the ultimate indicator of how good a team is and whether they're trending up or down. You don't understand that teams can (and do) overperform and underperform. You don't understand that a team that lucks its way to 7 wins can be worse than a team that was unlucky to win 5 and would be the better team to back the following year - and that therefore setting hard win targets is a ridiculously simplistic approach, and that this is why our team's owner is unwilling to do that.

And you think I'm the one lacking in cognitive ability?

<shrug>
unlucky teams don't win only 5 games, bad teams do.

If you are under .500 than their is more than bad luck going on. It means you are unable to beat a decent team or you are still regularly loosing to bad teams.

luck works both ways. If you aren't showing improvement more than what luck can bring, then you don't need to be here after 3 years of work.

Wait.... So if record isn't the ultimate indicator of how good a team is, then why keep a record at all?

Our owner has been patient but he will on be patient for so long is the trend continues... "We lost again today but boy did we play hard!"
Love how the OP thinks we want to lose. Did you really need Gene Frennete to tell you the Jags need to win more games this year for the regime to keep their jobs? OP is not a very optimistic person. I think with the amount of turnover the GM and Coach had to deal with and with what I've seen, this is a year where we should/will see significant upgrades to this roster. I think with another solid draft added to a solid FA class, we really can expect to see a competitive Jaguars team in 2015.

Nobody would of won games with what the Jaguars had to offer the last 2 years. Especially when your best player was in rehab (Justin Blackmon). You base your opinions on this regime because of not resigning Daryl Smith and Montel Owens(your opinion from another thread). Get upset because we are not setting unrealistic expectations to the youngest team in the league, that was left in terrible shape in 2012, which resulted in a complete roster overhaul down to the foundation of the team,  and then you throw an article by a very bitter journalist who's opinion is probably shared with by any rational or understanding Jaguar fan around the world?

I think you need to settle down. Nobody wants to lose, but as fans of any sports team, sometimes these things happen. Nobodies throwing excuses. Its year 3 of their plan. They know they need to get better results, i do, we all do. If you think just because we are not expecting the playoffs with this team, that we are used to losing, then the only loser here is you. Because a real fan would stick by the team.

Please don't quote Gene Frenette again, he's not that knowledgeable of the Jaguars. If you want to discuss Bolles Football or ladies softball, Genes your guy to go too.

So, you're saying you're fine with mediocrity?  Wink :woot: Banana

It isn't possible to upset the mods, they act like they are paid to like every move the team makes Tongue.

Okay first can you quote where anyone said we want the team to lose?It be good to man up and quote the person who stated something! Most of us are saying that their are no more excuses this season, and some disagree. And that's cool because everyone entitled to their own opinion..Anyways your opinion about another draft, and another free agency,we have been hearing that for 7 year now and 3 with the Gus regime. Its time to win now!

You said "we really can expect to see a competitive jags team in 2015". You think?? After 3 years? That quote sounds just like Gus and what he been saying since he first got here! And that's cool if it translate into wins! What good is a competitive team unless it wins games??

To say"nobody would have won with the jaguars the last 2 years" is ridiculous! Nobody probably would have started a backup QB either, well 2 garbage QB's either. Referring to Gabbert and Henne.I believe any one of the Harbaugh brothers, Pete Caroll,Andy Reid,Mike Tomlin could have done a equal or better job easily!!

Playoffs?Playoffs? Win games is all I want and hope for the playoffs later! You said "sometime in sports things happen" well that thing is losing with the jags and it doesn't have to happen! Its been 7 years!! Let that sit in your thick skull! Smh, this is the real passionate jags fan who is tired of losing, tired of the excuses, and ready to see the team win!! Either you can jump on board or get left in my books!

And stop giving out free passed year after year, their are franchises turning things around within 2 years time:Colts,Eagles,Chiefs, and Texans!

And I believe Frenette get paid for his opinions and he sounds like a passionate fan who is tired of excuses too!!

You are not taking into consideration that those teams did not nearly completely blow up their roster and refill it with mostly rookies and UDFA either...HUGE difference between what those teams did and what the Jags did...

That's a fact that will never be taken into consideration by a certain population on this board.

They conveniently refer to facts as excuses.

I've noticed that the people who always refer to teams that have gone from bottom feeders to contenders in a year or two never mention that fact as well, nor do they mention the fact that most of those teams only sustained notable success for a couple of years afterwards either...Oh sure they didn't drop back down as far as they were, but their turnaround didn't keep them running HOT for very long...

Other then the Jags under DC, who was the last team to completely blowup their roster, Jags-style, and start from scratch again?

And I don't mean those teams listed in RED above, because they already had talent and didn't have to completely blowup their roster and start over with a bunch of rookies and UDFAs.

There has to be some team, but I just can't think of which team it is right now. Anybody???????

I believe I have heard that what the Jags did is unprecedented

The one that always amused me was the Kansas City Chiefs turnaround.  People pointed to them as an example of what SHOULD have happened with the Jags.  If the Chiefs could do it....  They completely ignored the fact that in the season where the Chiefs had a horrific record, they also had a team with 6 guys who made the Pro Bowl.  That was not a team that was void of talent, and they didn't blow the roster up.

That same year, the Jags earned their record.  They were bad.  There was little talent on the roster.  There certainly weren't multiple Pro Bowlers on the team.  But, they were certainly being held to the same standard by a certain population on this board.

well that one doesn't count, try again

Didn't we have 8 rookies starting at one point on offense last year?

Yep. The turn arounds most usually mentioned were similar to the turnaround the Jags had under Shack and Jack. They still had multiple Pro Bowlers in place when Shack and Jack took over. They had essentially nothing in place when Caldwell took over. He mentioned the Eagles. They had half a dozen Pro Bowl players on offense alone when Chip Kelly took over.

Houston is another.

People like to point out these teams that were considered contenders who fell flat on their face for a season  and then rebounded the following year with no major roster shake up. They just get a new coach that gets them playing up to their talent level again, yet some want to act like their was some sort of rebuilding going on.

I did not say "we" want the team to lose, it was YOU who said this fanbase has gotten used to losing. And your wrong on all accounts on that. We as fans, have no say in what happens to the franchise. Its either support them or don't support them. I think its black and white for you to say we have gotten used to losing when losing is what is being given to US FANS. I happen to be a rational person who is willing to let this process play out before i rush to judgments. I was highly critical of the last regime and i was right on all accounts. I still atleast gave them a chance, just like this regime. If you cant see the arrow pointing upwards for this franchise, not only on the field, but outside the field and all around the city, then you are lost in your own thoughts. If you really needed Gene Frenette to tell you that they need to get more wins this season to validate your point, then i got nothing else for you.

Your lost in your own thoughts, "giving out free passes"? Really? You realize the Texans are bad right? You realize the Colts are the luckiest franchise in all of football right? ( Manning, Luck), you realize the Eagles right now is like jumping aboard the Titanic right? And the Chiefs had a fluke season, team was loaded with talent with no QB and i believe a ton of injuries. Jaguars completely tore down the team, even the foundation was taken down. This is a completely new Jacksonville Jaguars. A new owner, new identity, new everything. Yes, Yo Boy, it is/was going to take a few years for us to get back to competing.

Again, if you would like daily updates on ladies softball, please, by all means quote and reference Gene Frennete. Gene is not a Jaguars fan and I'm pretty sure he is forced to talk about them. He's even been criticized for that. He got in an argument because he wanted to talk baseball instead of the Jaguars.

Its because fans are irrational and expect everything given to them, kinda a trend now in this country. "I WANT IT NOW" "GIMME GIMME GIMME", "WHY DO WE SUCKS" "FIRE EVERYBODY". Theres no rational anymore. Its just results or nothing else. Any reasonable fan would understand why the Jaguars have sucked so bad the past few years, yes its been painful, yea it sucked, but the jags completely have changed their identity since 2012. Everything is different. They tore down the team and even the foundation. It was going to take a few years to get back up to speed. And i believe our future is brighter than other franchises.

There was a tweet not too long ago that stated that teams were contacting the Jaguars on how to run their franchises like theirs! Teams are literally asking our team for advice because of how good this regime and owner are running the show.
