Ryan O is a joke and a clown, I remember listening him talk about blackmon and shaking my head the entire time.

Blackmon stole his girl and then went for his mother, this is the only thing that can explain his hatred for Blackmon
Justin Blackmon barely has 1000 yards for his career. By the time the regular season comes around it will have been almost *2 years* between games for Blackmon.

Reaction A: Justin Blackmon is an elite receiver and the next Dez Bryant.

Reaction B: It's unlikely to expect Blackmon to play at a high level.

Apparently on this board, A is the nuanced, reasonable, thoughtful conclusion and B makes one a "clown", "hater" and numerous other things that are against this board's TOS.

Pretty much.
You either "Preach to the Choir" or "Get the heck out of my Church!"
I think Blackmon has Dez upside. I'm not going to lie about that. But he should be pretty raw coming in, I'll admit to that too. I also don't think he could hit his ceiling this season, regardless. But the second half of the season could be some excellent fun!

Blackmon did follow Dez Bryant at OSU. And it shows by the way he plays.

Hopefully he will come back strong and display that ability!

It can go either route. I just hope its the better one.

Most reasonable people don't expect Blackmon to come back and have a huge impact.

For ohalloran to mock fans for being excited about him coming back is very lame though.

I think he has the ability to blow up evey now and then for 150+ yards, and that's great to have for a "backup" or whatever he will be.

"Barely 1000 yards for his career..."  He has 1280 yards in his rookie season + 4 games.  That's with Gabbert and Henne throwing the ball to him.  There's room for differences of opinions here but of course you're going to get laughed at if you don't think he has the ability to perform at a very high level.  From a raw talent standpoint he might be the best receiver we've ever had here.  You're right that he has been out for nearly 2 years and it will take him a while to get back, but that doesn't mean he can't.  IF he is dedicated and can overcome his problems, I expect him to perform at a pro-bowl level.
Quote:He played out of the slot a lot with this team.

I can see them rotating Blackmon and Lee.
Imagine a 4 receiver set....

A 4 receiver set? Well Doug Marrone is familiar with the Saints offense...

Let's be clear. The suspensions have been the main reasons his production has been

limited, not his innate ability.

In his limited time here, he has two of the biggest single game receiving performances in team history. Pedestrian receivers can't do that.

Assuming he is reinstated, the question becomes can he perform after all this time away from football.

There is precedent for the good and bad possibilities.

Our own Jimmy Smith had an inactive period of a similar length of time early in his career, prior to becoming a Jaguar.

This was due to a broken leg and appendicitis. The appendicitis occurred in training camp, and it set off a dispute with Jerry Jones that led to his release from Dallas. He was also cut by the Eagles in 1994. He signed with the Jaguars in 1995 and the rest is history.

On the other side is Mike Williams formerly of USC. He left school early and tried to challenge the NFL's prohibition against early entry into the NFL by players less than two years removed from high school. He lost his challenge and had to sit out a year. He came back and played for Detroit after being drafted in the first round but he failed miserably.

ultimately I think Blackmon's success or failure will hinge on how hard he worked during his layoff.
"ultimately I think Blackmon's success or failure will hinge on how hard he worked during his layoff".

Uh Oh!!!!!!

oh what could be with this team

I truly believe allen hurns is going to be a super star

blackmon has that same ability

Arob maybe can get up there, I just can't respect a receiver wearing jersey number 16 though lol

If this team ever gets an offensive line, we'll be unstoppable at some point

It seems that the Jags need not only Justin Blackmon to come back and make a meaningful impact on the WR Corps after his substance abuse problems, but also that of Ace Sanders. While none of his 51 receptions in 2013 were thrown from Blake Bortles, Sanders is the perfect slot WR and also an adequate return man. The Jags need that slot WR and return man duties as part of the roster and so I am hoping that Sanders pulls his life together and makes a comeback during OTAs and Training Camp.

Sanders has some ability but if Lee continues the progress he made late last year, Blackmon comes back re-dedicated (big "if" I know) and A-Rob makes a full recovery (which he should)...I just don't know where there would be a spot for him.  Plus I'm sure Caldwell will be looking to add some more talent.

I originally posted from a tablet.  It was hard for me to edit the statement in bold.

I think Blackmon's INITIAL success or failure upon his return will hinge on how hard he worked during his layoff.  Longer term it will depend upon his health and his ability to stay clean and sober.

Quote:It really sounds like he can return. I really hope he does!

It would be awesome if he returns in the same shape / condition as he left, but he hasnt played in so long... who knows..
