Quote:Reportedly, the Broncos will be interviewing Bengals DB Coach Vance Joseph today (Friday) for their HC opening. I believe this is Joseph's first NFL HC interview:
It gets crazier by the minute in Denver. I had never heard of him and think he is lucky to get an interview from anyone.
Could this lead to the new HC hiring him for DB coach or DC?

Assuming Vance Joseph isn't the next HC of the Broncos, he could get hired as Defensive Coordinator. However, the chances of Joseph coming to Denver as DB coach in 2015 are closer to none than slim. It's extremely unlikely that Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis would let Joseph make a lateral coaching move.

Right now the Broncos still have a DB coach. They just are likely to lose him after a new head coach is hired. Time will tell if the new guy wants to retain some assistants.
It did not take long for John Fox to find a new team. One interview was enough for the Bears to want him.
Quote:The Bears are set to make John Fox their next head coach, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per two sources informed of the situation. Fox is already making preparations to take the position, and the two sides are in deep talks, Rapoport added.

The Broncos will interview Doug Marrone Saturday and Gary Kubiak "over the weekend." Teryl Austin's interview was canceled.
After being set to hire Chargers linebackers coach Joe Barry because the 49ers denied an interview request with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, they scheduled an interview with Fangio for the defensive coordinator job this weekend.
The Browns interviewed Marc Trestman, Raiders senior offensive assistant Al Saunders, and Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo for the offensive coordinator job.
I wish we had an easier run down of who has signed and who has been interviewed and what spots are open and so on, I know nfl.com has it but I feel like its not what I want

But things are starting to clear up with all these signings anyways.

If the Broncos and Gary Kubiak come to an agreement for the HC position, there's a good chance that Kubiak will hire Vance Joseph as Defensive Coordinator. Assuming, the Bengals enable him to accept the promotion. Joseph was the Texans DC coach under Kubiak for a few seasons.

Teryl Austin elected to cancel the interview. Likely because of the combination of it not looking like he would emerge as the Broncos HC and that Austin had 5 interviews ( including two with the Falcons ) since last week. Eventually, diminishing returns is going to set in.

Interview fatigue, huh? That normally is not why coaches cancel job interviews.
You must be happy about that because it means at least one more year of a great Lions defense.

Or, more likely perhaps, it means that Austin knows he's getting a head job somewhere else.

He does not know that. There are only two openings left and Dan Quinn is the favorite in Atlanta.
Quote:What do you want?
Hires
Bills: HC Rex Ryan, OC Greg Roman, DC Dennis Thurman
Jets: GM Mike Maccagnan, HC Todd Bowles, OC Chan Gailey, DC Kacy Rodgers
Raiders: HC Jack Del Rio
49ers: HC Jim Tomsula
Bears: GM Ryan Pace, HC John Fox
That and who is still open and who they have interviewed and such. But I like how its easier to read here vs NFLs cluster of info.

When you have had 5 other interviews in a 7 day period, which includes plenty of air travel, preparation, and time away from your family ( Teryl Austin's family lives in Arizona ), it's understandable why he would cancel the Broncos interview. Especially, if he doesn't believe it's going to lead to being hired.
Until the Falcons situation is settled, there's plenty of uncertainty if Teryl Austin will be back with the Lions.
As for the Lions Defense, with many Defensive players scheduled to be UFA's, having Austin back at least one more season would be a huge positive for the team if that happens.

No kidding. It is so annoying to see old news and out of date information. I wish they would write the specific dates of all interviews instead of just the day of the week.
The worst part is I only see three names for Jaguars OC candidates - Adam Gase, Greg Olsen, and Kirby Wilson - on NFL.com and a lot more in the Jaguars forum here. Why don't they list Marc Trestman and Doug Marrone?
So.here are the head coach candidates for Atlanta and Denver:
Broncos: Own OC Adam Gase, Bengals DB coach Vance Joseph, Ravens OC Gary Kubiak, Seahawks DC Dan Quinn, Lions DC Teryl Austin, and former Bills HC Doug Marrone.
Falcons: Own STC Keith Armstrong, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Seahawks DC Dan Quinn, Lions DC Teryl Austin, and former Bills HC Doug Marrone.
I wonder if the Broncos are rooting for the Packers so they can talk to Quinn, who is allowed to get his second interview with the Falcons before January 25 even if the Seahawks win.
Quote:Yeah that is a crazy number of interviews in only one week. Here is the situation in Atlanta:

There has been speculation that the other candidate is Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, who has multiple connections to the Falcons front office.

Chances are the Broncos would like to be able to talk to Dan Quinn before making a HC hire. Unless John Elway clearly wants Gary Kubiak as the next HC and Kubiak accepts the job, Elway very likely will be rooting for the Packers tomorrow.
If the Seahawks win tomorrow and everything goes smoothly with Kubiak's interview including a willingness to accept a contract offer, I think he will be the Broncos HC no later than by the middle of this coming week. Maybe as early as Monday.
