Of course, these articles were written before the Raiders hired JDR. The Broncos have already interviewed Adam Gase.

Quote:I think everybody interviewed Teryl Austin. FBT pointed out he satisfies the Rooney Rule, which did not result in any minority hires two years ago. So it would be good for the NFL's image if the Falcons hire Austin. So another question is could that factor into Atlanta's decision to go with him instead of wait for the Seahawks to lose since there are no other minority coaches getting interviews for the job? But I still think it's Dan Quinn's job to lose if they can interview him a second time.

In Denver, it is Adam Gase's job to lose because Peyton Manning will be involved in the search and John Elway wants him to return for another season. A rumor is if Gase is not retained, Manning will retire. Elway, of course, left open the possibility of keeping Gase on as the offensive coordinator if not the head coach just to make sure Manning does not retire because of a coaching change. Because the job opened up late the Broncos probably are more willing to wait for Dan Quinn to be available than the Falcons, who have already interviewed all of their candidates.

Teryl Austin should only be hired for a HC position if it's on merit from the perspective of those making the hiring decision.    As someone who is very familiar with Austin,  I believe that in a good organization,  he has the potential to be a great HC.    If any team hired a HC or anyone else for that matter that isn't the best possible person for the job based on the team's situation,  they deserve to lose.

The situation with Denver can go in many directions.  John Elway has to weigh what's best for the Broncos organization not just in 2015 but for the future.  If Elway puts too much weight in what Peyton Manning wants in 2015,  he could easily regret the decision sooner rather than later.    if Elway determines that keeping Adam Gase around would be beneficial in the present and the future,   then it makes much more sense to do so.

The Broncos also have a scheduled interview on Friday with Teryl Austin.   The interview with the Falcons that was pushed up to Wednesday was reportedly pushed back to today.

I only read Teryl Austin's interview with the Falcons will be Thursday.

Denver's list of candidates so far: Adam Gase, Dan Quinn, Teryl Austin, and Gary Kubiak. The inclusion of Kubiak is because John Elway's former backup and OC might change his mind now that the Broncos job has opened up.

The following is confirmation of the Broncos scheduled to interview Teryl Austin on Friday:

Another potential Broncos HC Candidate is Ravens QB Coach Rick Dennison,  who has a long history with the Broncos as a player and coach.   Dennison's well diverse coaching skills could easily lead to him becoming an NFL HC at some point.
I would love to see Joe Flacco's performance suffer after Rick Dennison gets a job somewhere else.

The Ravens have a history of doing a good job in replacing Assistant Coaches.

Ugh. I am looking forward to Flacco's retirement LOL.

Anyway, do you think Gary Kubiak will reconsider staying in Baltimore now that he has a chance to work for his former teammate?

I think Gary Kubiak is giving the situation serious thought.   My gut feeling though is he doesn't end up as the Broncos HC in 2015.   I think deep down Kubiak knows that he's better off remaining with the Baltimore Ravens as Offensive Coordinator.   That might prolong his life many years,  compared to the stress associated with being an NFL HC again.   That much more in a place where expectations are Super Bowl victory or bust.
Good point. Gary Kubiak is at a high risk of getting a stroke because he had a TIA in 2013. But I doubt that is what went through his mind when he declined all interviews to stay in Baltimore.

  Thanks.

I can't speak for Gary Kubiak.   But if I was advising him,  the health situation he dealt with in 2013 would be the # 1 reason why I would tell him not to become an NFL HC again.   It's not worth it.
So who do you think would be the best guy for Denver?

Quote:So who do you think would be the best guy for Denver?

The Peyton Manning situation makes this a difficult question to answer.  No one jumps out.  If the Broncos believe they are a Super Bowl contender in 2015,  someone with NFL HC experience is needed.   At the same time,  Peyton Manning has at most 2 seasons left in the tank.   Realistically,  even one more good season is probably the maximum Manning can provide.  Finding a HC that can put the Broncos in the best possible position to succeed in 2015 and also be a good long term solution is going to be difficult.    Mike Shanahan coming back to Denver came to mind but his Offense doesn't seem like a good fit for Peyton Manning at this stage of the QB's career.

The combo of Teryl Austin being the HC in Atlanta and Adam Gase being the Falcons Offensive Coordinator is something Austin reportedly is presenting in his 2nd interview with the Falcons.   It would probably be better for the Falcons to go with this combo than the Broncos.   The reason being,  the Falcons don't look like a Super Bowl contender for the 2015 season.    Having a HC and Offensive Coordinator w/o HC experience wouldn't be as much of an obstacle for the Falcons as it would seem to be for the Broncos.   Having said this,  it would make sense for Austin to hire a Defensive Coordinator or an Assistant HC with NFL HC experience.
Is there a link that simply shows the up to date moves of GMs and HCs?

The following from NFL.Com might prove at least somewhat helpful:

One more coach to replace for the Ravens.

The demand for the position should be greater than the supply of quality candidates.   It's a great oppotrtunity to advance.

At the very least the previous 2 Ravens DB coaches went on to become Defensive Coordinators.

First,  Chuck Pagano was promoted to Ravens DC.   After Pagano became the Colts HC,   Teryl Austin was hired to become Ravens DB Coach.  After Jim Caldwell was hired by the Lions to be the HC,   he brought Austin with him from Baltimore to become the Lions DC.

Teams that still have not made hires (as far as I know)

There has been no change at offensive coordinator for the Broncos. All of the reports about Adam Gase say he is still Denver's offensive coordinator, including this one:

Quote:NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Falcons will also request to speak with Gase.
Reportedly,  the Broncos will be interviewing Bengals DB Coach Vance Joseph today ( Friday ) for their HC opening.   I believe this is Joseph's first NFL HC interview:
