Quote:Chances are the Broncos would like to be able to talk to Dan Quinn before making a HC hire. Unless John Elway clearly wants Gary Kubiak as the next HC and Kubiak accepts the job, Elway very likely will be rooting for the Packers tomorrow.
If the Seahawks win tomorrow and everything goes smoothly with Kubiak's interview including a willingness to accept a contract offer, I think he will be the Broncos HC no later than by the middle of this coming week. Maybe as early as Monday.
Of course they are not the only two candidates. John Elway's first interview was with Adam Gase, who the Falcons don't want. If Seattle wins tomorrow, Gase should get a second interview while Elway waits two weeks.

I'll be surprised if John Elway waits two weeks. If Seattle wins tomorrow, I don't think Dan Quinn will be in the mix for the Seahawks HC job. The possible exception is if the Falcons decide to hire a HC in the next few days. Leaving the Broncos as the only team currently looking for a HC.
Quote:In addition to Adam Gase being connected to Dan Quinn and Teryl Austin is either becomes Falcons HC, Kyle Shanahan is also connected to Quinn for that position.
Several teams want Gase for OC if he does not take the Broncos HC job. I would not be surprised if he makes a lateral move.

Agreed.
At the very least, the Jaguars, Falcons, and Rams seem to have serious interest in Adam Gase as their next OC.

The Falcons probably will get their guy before the Super Bowl. They only have to wait until Monday to interview Dan Quinn again. I think Quinn will go to Atlanta and Denver picks either Adam Gase or Gary Kubiak.
JDR still thinks Mike Tice is a good offensive line coach.
Quote:Mike Tice is joining Del Rio in Oakland as the Raiders' offensive line coach, NFL Media columnist Michael Silver reported.

While the Falcons can interview Dan Quinn again on Monday, if the Seahawks win tomorrow the Falcons can't hire Quinn until after the Super Bowl. As long as the Broncos don't have a HC, the Falcons are at risk of losing Quinn to Denver. Also, it's possible another HC position could open up. Stranger things have happened in the past.

Earlier in the week, the Falcons wouldn't let Mike Tice out of his contract. It will be interesting to see if they now let Special Teams Coordinator Keith Armstrong out of his contract. The Jets reportedly are very interested in Armstrong for their new coaching staff.

Wow they changed their minds pretty quick.
Keith Armstrong was a head coach candidate, so I doubt they let him go to the Jets.

I'm not sure how the situation with Keith Armstrong will turn out. The longer the Falcons HC situation is uncertain, the more most of the remaining Assistant Coaches on the team are going to want to seek employment elsewhere. With Senior Bowl week coming up, the Falcons Assistant Coaches could lose out on good opportunities this week.

What does the Senior Bowl have to do with it? Tennessee and Jacksonville coaches are working there.

Senior Bowl week is in essence a convention for coaches looking for employment. Every NFL team will have its football people present in Mobile. Many Assistant Coaches are going to end up getting hired because of what transpires in Mobile in the next few days.
The Titans denied the Bears permission to talk to tight ends coach Mike Mularkey about the OC job.
Former Redskins coach will be the 49ers OLC.
In Buffalo, former Bears OC Aaron Kromer is the OLC and David Lee is the QC.
Former Bills coach Doug Marrone canceled a Saturday interview with the Broncos the day before it.
Texans director of player personnel Brian Gaine will be promoted despite interviewing twice for the Eagles GM job.

They denied MIke Mularkey permission to talk to the Bears, not vice versa. Apparently that is allowed.

That would be the case regarding the opportunity to interview for a HC position. Yet, when it comes to other types of coaching promotions it's allowed. Other than Ken Whisenhunt, it's not the norm to prevent a coach from having a legitimate promotion.
The following article touches upon Whisenhunt's history regarding preventing promotions of coaches. He's demonstrating that it likely was Kurt Warner who led the way to the Cardinals going to the Super Bowl. Until/ unless Whisenhunt proves otherwise, I'm now of the opinion that it's to the Jaguars advantage that Whisenhunt remains the Tennessee HC:

Whisenhunt is an idiot. How can he possibly not know there are other tight ends coaches who can do a better job than Mike Mularkey?

I'm not going to question Ken Whisenhunt's assessment of who the best TE coaches are, as Whisenhunt played the position and coached the position in the NFL for a long time. The same with Mike Mularkey. Having said that, I don't think Whisenhunt sees the big picture, which is imperative when you are a HC.
Some will probably assume that I'm bitter that Whisenhunt turned down the Lions HC last January. To the contrary, after a 2-14 season and the way he's preventing another Assistant coach from getting a promotion, I'm grateful that Whisenhunt decided to take the Tennessee HC job. Last winter, I thought Whisenhunt would have been a good choice by the Lions. I now believe he would have been another of a long line of Lions HC's that would have disappointed. Probably never achieving what Jim Caldwell did in his first season with the Lions.
