Quote:I honestly think bortles took that safety on purpose still.
I don't think Bortles had much of a chance on that play.  Watt abused Joeckel AND Beadles on that spin move.  Had Bortles stepped up into the pocket, he still would have been crushed.
Bortles is garbage? REALLY? What an ignorant statement. GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE TO THROW THE BALL. NO QB could perform well with this O-LINE.

Watt used and abused "The Joke" on that play and Beadles whiffed with epic fashion. If Bortles would have stepped up, he may have been injured. Watt had a bee line path off that spin move.

Bingo!!
Quote:BL followed a guy who had three straight losing seasons from 2000-2002.

Granted, Brunell had a good career in Jacksonville, but let's not glorify his last 3-4 years here.

I'm not trying to glorify the end.  I'm saying he was the best QB we've ever had.  When I say "recent history" I'm including his multiple playoff and championship games.

Compare that to our last decade.
Quote:That is fair.

Nevertheless, the numbers are the numbers.
Still.  Jimmy, and Fred, and a better offensive line that Manwich had, Blake would have thrown for 4,000 yards and 20 TDs.  The whole surrounding team sucked for Bortles, and he could not do anything.  Someone needs to find the drop rate for Bortles this year.  I bet it's a league high.

I dont agree with that.  Bortles was looking left the whole way.  He could have should have seen that coming and stepped back and then moved left.

i know, but i feel like for a split second he thought about throwing it away and was like, nahhhhh i can just back up 1 step into the end zone here.

its my conspiracy theory of the year.

We are number 3 in drops.
He isn't garbage, he's just meh. I just saw our schedule for next year and if we don't surpass 5 wins, then I just don't know anymore.....

We said that last year too...
Here is a look at some drops for our team

Year        Targets Drops Rate QB

2014        553       28         5.1 Blake Bortles

2013        585       30         5.1 Chad Henne

2012        581       41         7.1 Blaine Gabbert

2011        468       26         5.6 Blaine Gabbert

2010        464       18         3.9 David Garrard

2009        514       21         4.1 David Garrard

2008        532       40         7.5 David Garrard

2007        467       24         5.1 David Garrard

Yeah drops aren't really don't do too much to help out with recency bias.

That's some good insight...where do you find those stats?  Thanks brother!

LoL our #2 pick and high-prized free-agent signing everyone!

I think Blake could have stepped up just to get out of the end zone and avoid the safety. He still would have gotten sacked though. With experience (and better protection) he can hopefully avoid this in the future.
Quote:I still think Bortles can develop into a very good QB.

But I'm glad you put this comparison out here.

BL put up better numbers and people were already ready to run him out of town.

I don't think this was the case. There was a hope that Byron was the future after his rookie year (which to that point, was one of the best rookie years). He just didn't improve much, if at all after that point. Blake has plenty of room for improvement.

If you watched Blake yesterday, he was all over the place mentally.  He was getting crushed, and he got up looking lost because he can't seem to find any rhythm.  Then, we he steps up, and throws the bullets, they get dropped, or they are running the wrong route.  He is sitting there yelling at a 4 year veteran Shorts because he cut in, instead of going up field.  I don't blame Blake for his performance.  He's a rookie, and no one stepped up this year to help the kid out, not even Fisch.

Here is where I got the drop stats

Alot of these things are estimate type stats but it does show the problem with pulling numbers.  What I see across the board is we have had about 8 years of average NFL caliber receivers.  The years where we lowered the drops were a direct result of having the top NFL rushers or near the top rushing.  This team is paying a serious price for bad drafting and poor decision making.

I like that people think Mariota will even be available. Bucs tanked and aren't even hiding it

I'd be surprised if they took Mariota #1 overall, he's pretty raw too.  Jaguars don't need to draft a QB this year anyway. We spent way too high of a pick on Bortles to give up on him after one year, and he's done nothing for that to be warranted.

What bothered me more was his throwing motion. Dude didn't even look like he was trying to use his body at all. Almost everything was a wind-up throw.

Probably didn't want to get killed, so he got the ball out as fast as he could.  I swear when he puts his body into his throws, they come out beautiful and with purpose.
