Quote:It's not crazy to actually have perspective.
The fact that these guys went on to have hall of fame careers doesn't change their humble beginnings.
I'm not saying Bortles is destined for the hall of fame, but to think he should be written off at this point in his career is being ignorant of history.
No doubt. But I just don't see anyone, except the blatant trolls saying that BB5 is gonna be a bust. He's a rookie and he needs more time to grow and get better.
But he clearly needs to continue to work on his game. That's something we can all agree on, right?
Just to say, "yeah, he's making rookie mistakes" is to white wash the fact of what it really means. He's making mistakes because he NEEDS MORE WORK. If he doesn't work on his craft, he's not gonna be good.
We need to see him progress over the next few weeks. These mistakes he's making now are fine, but if they continue, it's something to get concerned about.
Quote:If you could rewind the clock, would you rather bortles take a sack or throw the pick six?
I'd rather him go through his progression and find the other receiver!!
Quote:I'd rather him go through his progression and find the other receiver!!
True true...
I compared him to Favre ONLY in that he is throwing picks because he is forcing it, seeing how fast the defense can break on his throws. He also is learning defenses but he seems smart, has good pocket skills, throws accurate bullets for the most part with little help around him of a high skill set right now.
Who knows how he will turn out, but this year is a learning experience, all fans should know that by now. I wouldn't panic if he set a record for picks.
Quote:LOL, really?
Who has been saying anything like that?
It's funny that some are so hyper sensitive to a discussion that they create ghost critics to bash...
I'll talk to you because you seem like a sensible poster. What were you really expecting from Bortles this year with all these rookies around him? I know I fully expected to see what I have been seeing. A team that's up and down. A qb who makes mistakes and bad reads. Pick 6's and miscommunication between the qb and wideouts. This is part of playing a rookie qb. I'm in no way saying he will be the next Tom Brady but I have to wonder want some fans were really expecting to happen. The kid will be good but can we at least allow him to play the rest of the season before we call him a bust.
It sure seems like 40 TD was the expectation of him. He's pretty much on par with most other rookie qbs. Yeah hes has a 2:1 int:td ratio. So what? That part of the learning curve. Progression is over a period of games. Most of the time year to year. He's played five games lol. It's hard to say if he's getting better because he's starting at the beginning right now. We have to let him play and then later after a few more games see if he has gotten better. Right now it's not going to happen game to game or even quarter to quarter.

Saying a rookie needs to work on his game is just stating the obvious.
Working on ones game to constancy usually takes years. He will continue to make mistakes this season. That is just something people need to be prepared to expect.
Bortles is going through this process for the returns he will bring 4,5,6,7 years down the road, not for this season.
People need the patience and the mental discipline to let the process work itself out.

But that's what it means to make rookie mistakes. There are some faucets to his game that is just not there yet. Its a process that has to happen.
We are watching square one of that process. He will take these games this season and study them in the off season and come back better. Then do the same thing the year after. If he has the work ethic he will make it happen. The talent is definitely there though.
We have to just sit back and let this thing play out before we make a call it one way or another.

I'm not here to bash our QB. I know he has the potential to be great. I was right there with everyone else during the pre-season. He clearly has the talent to be great.
And don't get me wrong, just because I'm saying some things that may be perceived as negative doesn't mean that I see anything that can be considered to be negative. He's a rookie and he's gonna make stupid decisions.
All I'm saying is that he's gotta get better.
The team around him is right there. Our D has clearly turned the corner. I mean, man! They are killing it! You have to give Babich credit for this turn around. He's clearly making the most of the players and the D-Line are just freaks.
Fish has almost got me sold on his side of the ball as well.
Our WRs are progressing. Our O-Line is getting better. And Shoelace appears to be the type of RB that can get good yardage, but we need Storm back to pound the ball as well.
Dude, we have a legitimate team. The one thing I want to really take a jump is the QB. I'm not saying he won't get better. But let's face it... BB5 is the one last peice that NEEDS to get better.
We're about to be contenders. I can see it. This game was ours, and not in a hypothetical way. We could have very well blown this game out by the end of the 1st half. We're on the verge of being contenders. But it's up to BB5 to get us there. That's just how I see it. And that means I might be a bit over critical at times about him. But in no way does that mean I'm worried he's gonna bust. He's just too good to not be good. It's just a matter of him wanting to put in the work and get better, faster.
The kid is making bad decisions with the football.
He can learn from that.
The intangibles he possesses bode well for his future. He's just not ready yet.
Not worried. It's hard to watch him learn the hard way, but I think he can grow from it.
Ok Anchorman, you had me until you said the QB was the "ONE LAST PIECE" we need.
Put down the kool aid 64 oz mug. Haha.
What other pro bowlers do we have on offense? Hows our left side of the line? Hows the tight end play?
What receiver constantly gets behind the CB's on speed and moves besides Blackmon who is in rehab?
Our running back is ok, and I like him, but he isn't a monster home run threat, but he is decent.
A few more parts are needed or guys stepping up.

I hear ya. It's clear he has command of the game. For the most part he's able to move the ball down the field. We don't see 3 and outs hardly at all, anymore. So clearly he's way better than what we had.
I'm just waiting for his break out game. It's coming. I'm just wanting it to happen sooner than later. Of course we have to be patient.
I mean, look at our D. Man it took them 5.5 weeks to get to this point. But look at them now. They look like top 10 if not a top 5 D.
I'm just expecting BB5 to get there as well. And you have to give credit to Fish as well. His play calling has gotten alot more dynamic. And once he has given up on Amelia and focused on Shoelace, you see progress in all facets of the offence.
I'm just ready to see BB5 take that next leap as a QB. Of course, it may take some time. I'm just thinking that we are on the verge about becoming a major contender for a long time. And I'm dying to see our QB take that step to becoming what we all expect him to be.

Well for us to win this year he has to get better. I don't believe the decision to draft and play him was made for this year though. I do know that this team is young and the guys making 90% the plays on this team right now are not much than 26. That is a big deal and we are set up for a run. A long run if I my say. This will be the same defense next year with more pieces and more refined.
More pieces will be added to the offensive side of the ball and it will be more refined as well with the young guys. We are in a good place. With all the turmoil on the surface there is a strong foundation that has been laid. Let's sit back and watch this team develop. There is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. Bortles is the guy. Lets let the game slow down for him. Allow him to get a full year under his belt. I'm sold on this guy.

Once Joekell went out, I think we realized how important he is. So, I still wouldn't say Joekell is the elite LT we want, but he's clearly better than his back up. So here's hoping he gets back soon.
You're right, of course about our TE.
In regards to Shoelace, I think you're being a bit to critical. He's the real deal. What we need is another RB to take some reps while Denard get's a break to catch his breathe.
Maybe I'm being a bit overly positive about our offense, but I honestly saw something today that was positively surprising. Fish did a pretty good job with the play calling. I think once Joekell went down, things changed a bit. I also think that BB5 is just a bit too raw. He's not progessing through his reads the way he should be. But I think that can be chalked up to being a rookie.
Dude, he had 2 pick 6's that were horrible decisions. He also had a fumble that killed us too. And with all of that, we were still moving the ball and were dominate.
I can see your critique of my analysis. I'm not saying I'm totally right in what I saw. But I honestly do feel that the weakest part of our offense RIGHT NOW is our QB.
And I think that's a really good spot to be in...

Amended.
I would say the biggest weakness is receiver. Blake is forcing the ball into really tight spots because our tight ends are non existent and nobody is stretching the field.
A super tight end is a bailout man over the middle a rookie QB has to have. I know these are our receivers so we are biased but they are not that good, these are second teamers if we get real. I am not buying the hype that we are so much better stocked there. We have Robinson. Wow.
Losing blackmon hurt this team more than any other draft bust or pick in the last 5 years.
You give Bortles a monster tight end, a recieving back, and Blackmon back or an AJ Green quality WR, and watch out next year!

I never said our society was in touch with reality.
Nothing says he has to live up to the expectations of the ignorant. The ignorant should be used to being let down. Ignorant expectations rarely ever align with reality.
That lost was totally on Blake.. Stop making excuses for him by blaming everyone else... Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes!
Got this from another board. Assuming it's accurate. Interesting first year stats on future HOF. We're 5 starts in...patience grasshoppers.
Elway 7 td, 14 int
Brees 16 td, 17 int (second year after watching first on bench)
P Manning 26td, 28 int
Bradshaw 6 td, 24 int
